We sat down with Sam to talk her favorite part of her YouTube journey, the food she can’t resist and health advice you won’t be able to live without.
How did you transition from doing beauty tutorials to fitness? Why did you make the change?
While I was making beauty tutorials, I was also getting into fitness more and my health. Many of my subscribers noticed I was losing weight and asked me if I can film a “What I eat in a day to lose weight” video. It really took off from there with my love for talking about health and wellness. I made the change because I was growing and my channel had to grow with me. I started my channel in college and it’s only normal to evolve and discover new passions.
What advice do you have for those who feel they are too busy to workout? Where should they begin?
I always say start with eating healthy because you will see a huge transformation there. I think that sets a healthy foundation to add more healthy habits, like working out. Even with a busy schedule you can do home workouts like I show on my channel 🙂
I always post pics of my stomach or legs or butt regarding weight loss lol but your face changes as well! More bone structure I barely noticed until some people pointed it out lol #weightloss #weightlosstransformation #whoisthatperson #fatloss (the two smaller pics on left are my before and the bigger picture was from a week or two ago😊) #fit #fitness
What is the hardest thing about sticking to a meal plan and what solution did you come up with?
Meal prep! If you do not have meals made or easy snacks for on-the-go, then it’s much easier to stop off and get fast food or junk food. I always make sure to have healthy meals and snacks. Even if I run out of my meal prep food towards the end of the week, I will buy healthy pre-made food like a salad or wrap the night before.
What is the most frequent question or issues your fans ask for help with? What advice do you give them?
Usually I get asked the most about belly fat. It’s normal for women to struggle with that area, especially that time of the month when we are bloated. I always tell them to stay hydrated with water throughout the day and eat clean 80% of the time. A cheat meal or day won’t kill ya 🙂
How do you deal with the days when working out is literally the last thing you want to do?
I always remind myself that I won’t regret this. I regret eating bad, I regret skipping workouts, but I never regret waking up and getting in an awesome workout.
What advice would you give to the girl who wants to get healthy, but feels unmotivated and doesn’t know where to begin?
You have to go back to the “why?” Why is this important to you? What will happen if you don’t do this? When you ask yourself “why” you discover a deeper, more powerful reason for why you should focus on your health. It is a simple thing we can do and it actually works!
What is the one cheat food you just can’t let go of?
Cheeseburger + fries + chocolate shake = me every cheat day haha
When things aren’t going right in your life what helps keep you on track and stay positive?
That this moment will pass. I do not like dwell or have a pity party for myself. I like to keep the attitude of “when you fall get back up!”
What I would say to the girls being bullied and are ashamed of their bodies would be….
In high school I was always bullied for having big boobs. My mom would always tell me “Does having big boobs make you a bad person? Of course not.” I always found that advice to be comforting and so true. Your physical appearance has little to do with who you are as a person.
What has been the best part of your YouTube journey?
Connecting with my viewers, especially on Snapchat. I open up videos of them telling me how much my channel has helped them and I send videos back and I feel we have this bond that I can’t explain to anyone else. But they get it and I think they feel it too.
What are your future plans and goals you’d like to accomplish with your YouTube channel?
I am trying this new thing where I really live in the moment. I use to plan so far ahead and get so consumed about what should be next. At this point, I just want to enjoy the ride and be present.
Where did you go to college and what was your favorite experience you had while attending college? Were you into the health scene then as well?
I went to Fordham University. The best experience was meeting all these amazing girls that lived on my floor and a few lived on the same street as well. We called ourselves the “transfers” because we all transferred from other schools and somehow all ended up in the same building/street. We would cook together and go out. We did stupid things, you know typical college stuff. I was definitely not on the health scene but I would go through phases.
What advice would you give to yourself if you could go back to that first day of school?
I worried a lot in college like, ‘What will I do after? What am I good at?’ I would tell myself that it’s all going to work out, just have fun 🙂 And maybe don’t skip your vegetables!
