This Beauty Pageant Contestant Cured Her Acne Issues With Diet Changes

Acne is terrible at any age, but Rachel Crawley isn’t letting it take over her life.

The 22-year-old Brit is a contestant in UK’s Miss Preston beauty pageant and she’sĀ using her platform to help others get clear skin. According to her inspiring Instagram account @asprinkleofhealthandbeauty, Crawley grew up being bullied and never wanted to be seen without makeup because of it. But at 18 years old, she was approached by pageant officials to sign up. Feeling insecure about her breakouts and scars, Crawley turned the opportunity down. Since then, she’s been documenting her complexion progress on Instagram and has come a long way, thanks to major changes in her diet.

It didn’t take long for Crawley to realize that sugar was the main offender when it came to her breakouts. She also noticed that carbs — including brown rice and oats — made a negative impact on her skin.

“Only for about 3 days I have stopped eating these foods and upped my fat intake (healthy fats) and guess what? No new breakouts!” she wrote on one Instagram caption. Now Crawley finds that she gets the best results with a vegan diet.

“Once you cut out the sugar,” she says, “your tastebuds will change and your cravings will stop.” Honestly, we’ve never been brave enough to try going vegan, but we’ll take her word on it.
