New Girl‘s fate has been up in the air since the season six finale, which gave fans some closure with Nick and Jess’ on-again-off-again relationship, but definitely didn’t resolve everything we want to see the show explore.
The season finale was written to be a possible series finale, since the show-runners did not yet know the fate of its comedy, so fans were steeling themselves for the worst.
Fortunately for us all, Fox has renewed the show — which incidentally is its longest-running current comedy series — for one last season, though it will likely be shorter than its usual 22 episodes.
“I think there’s still stuff that has to be done with all the characters,” executive producer David Finkel told Entertainment Weekly. “Nick, as an example, has grown so much and gotten to a place where he’s become sorta successful. He’s the one character over the course of the series that I think required the most growth and where he is now is exciting, but I don’t think we’ve mined as much as we could possibly mine out of it. I think there’s a lot of fun to be had there.”
Celebrate by re-living some of the best moments of the show with these ~truly~ iconic quotes.
“Winston, if you think those shoes are brown, what color do you think you are?” -Schmidt
“If I were off my rocker would I take a weekly selfie of my cat?” -Winston
“Damn it! I can’t find my driving moccasins anywhere.” -Schmidt
“This place is fancy and I don’t know which fork to kill myself with.” -Nick
“I’m gonna end up alone. I’m gonna be a single old lady, flashing people on the subway.” -Jess
“I’m not convinced I know how to read, I’ve just memorized a lot of words.” -Nick
“Oh my gosh. It’s food. I love food.” -Jess
“There are YOUTHS everywhere.” -Schmidt

Pass me the feeling stick, Jess. The ending of this show makes me more emotional than Schmidt’s marriage proposal.
