This New Supermodel Secret For Weight Loss Is Absolutely Wild

Sure, it’s not exactly a secret that some models have unhealthy habits when it comes to maintaining a photo-ready physique. While many of us know this, few of us actually realize how far it can go. While major eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia have received broad attention from the media, lesser known but equally unhealthy tactics have managed to fly under the radar… until now.

Male model David Gandy shared his preparation method for big photoshoots in an interview with Us Weekly, and it’s a little unnerving. (Warning: please do not try this at home.)

“This time I did salt depletion because salt bloats you,” said Gandy. “I learned about it from a guy who shoots a lot of covers for Men’s Health.”

You may be asking yourself, what exactly is salt depletion? Well, it’s not pretty, and it’s not good for your body at all.

“You deplete all the salt two days before you shoot, and then the day before you dehydrate yourself,” he said. “Literally the day before you drink only one glass of water. And that night you take a boiling hot bath. By the shoot you’ve got no liquid in you whatsoever.”

Forcing your body into such an extreme case of dehydration can be be incredibly dangerous, and should not be tried at home.

While models and celebrities are notorious for using extreme methods to look their best, some are healthier than others.

Victoria’s Secret Angel and supermodel Adriana Lima would work out every day with a personal trainer starting in August in preparation for the famous Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Not only that, but she would double her efforts during the last three weeks.

“It is really intense, it’s not really the amount of time you spend working out, it’s the intensity,” Lima said in an interview. “I jump rope, I do boxing, I lift weights, but I get bored doing that. If I am not moving I get bored very easily.”

While this may also seem extreme, during her training Lima was not depriving her body of food or water and was simultaneously working very closely with a special nutritionist. Although, more often than not her caloric intake came through protein shakes and vitamins. Then, 12 hours before the show she also adopted the dehydration technique.

“No liquids at all so you dry out. Sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that,” Lima said.

Even Beyonce’s rumored lemonade master cleanse is pretty extreme, including laxative tea as a main feature, although this is arguably one of the healthiest methods and can be used as a reset for your system.

Either way, this isn’t so much “advice” as it is a testament to the length that some models will go to look good.
