Are you one of those people who loves watching YouTube videos of epic marriage proposals? Yes, you are. We all are. This is the perfect story for all of the secret romantics out there.
Esther Havens and Austin Mann first met in Waco, Texas in 2008.
They instantly bonded over the fact that they were both traveling 10,000 miles a year to support non-profit startups in developing communities. Their friendship was quickly solidified, but that was all it was… until Mann found out that Havens would be passing through the Amsterdam Airport. He left her a note, setting the tone for the rest of the relationship.
This began a tradition of the two leaving each other love notes in airports all over the world, from Los Angeles to New Dehli.
This is how Starbucks got involved: Mann would pre-order his girlfriend’s drinks and direct her to pick them up at each airport’s respective Starbucks.
After nearly a decade of knowing each other and falling in love, Mann figured out that Havens would be at the Amsterdam Airport again, so he decided this was the perfect moment for a unique proposal. He flew in Havens’ sister, told the baristas and hid a phone in a bag to get a good close-up shot as he got down on one knee.
Havens sat down at her usual spot and found a love note telling her to go get the drink that Mann had pre-ordered for her.
When she turned around Mann was on his knee with flowers and an important question.
Of course, she said yes!
Reminder to go stand around and wait inside the Starbucks at your local airport. Who knows? Some *~magic~* might be waiting for you there.
