Most Popular Halloween Candy In Every State

Halloween is the holiday about tricks or treats but mostly treats. According to CandyStore.com nearly $2.6 billion will be spent in 2018 on Halloween candy. CandyStore.come is a bulk candy retailer and they posted their data and other candy retailers to reveal which candy by state is most popular. They combined 11 years of sales data (2007-2017) to predict the most popular candy by each state.

So what types of candy are everyone buying? Some states have very strange candy tastes. North Dakota has bought over 69,000 pounds of Hot Tamales in the last 11 years, while Washington’s favorite candy is Salt Water Taffy.

But the most popular candy in America is Skittles. Skittles reign supreme on Halloween with M&M’s coming in second and Snickers coming in third. Candy Corn comes in at number six. You would think the seasonal treat would rank higher, but some people do hate the sweet treat.

Alabama – Candy Corn

Candy corn is Alabama’s preferred treat. Over the past 11 years, residents of Alabama have purchased over 62,000 pounds of Candy Corn. Tootsie Pops come in second with Hershey’s Mini Bars in third.


Alaska – Twix

Twix is Alaska’s first choice of candy. Almost 5,00 pounds have been bought. The caramel chocolate bar is followed by Blow Pops in second and Milky Way bars in third.


Arizona – Snickers

Arizona’s favorite candy is Snickers. Over the last 11 years, almost 956,000 pounds of Snickers have been purchased by Arizonians. Coming in second is Hot Tamales and third is Hershey Kisses.


Arkansas – Jolly Rancher

In the last 11 years, Arkansas has purchased 241,000 pounds of Jolly Ranchers. Hot Tamales are second and Butterfingers come in at number three.


California – Skittles

Californians love Skittles. In the last 11 years, they have purchased 1,620,736 pounds of Skittles. What would anyone do with over 1.6 million pounds of Skittles! M&M’s come in number two and Assorted Salt Water Taffy comes in number three.


Colorado – Twix

Colorado loves their Twixs. They’ve bought over 5,700 pounds of Twix in the last 11 years. Milk Way comes in a close second and Hershey Kisses come in third.


Connecticut – Almond Joy

Almond Joys are the number one candy bars in Connecticut. With almost 2,600 pounds of Almond Joys sold it’s no wonder it’s number one. Milke Way comes in second and M&M’s are third.


Delaware – Life Savers

Delaware loves its Life Savers. In the last 11 years, over 20,800 pounds of Life Savers have been sold. Candy Corn comes in second with Skittles in third.


Florida – Snickers

Florida loves snickers, they’ve purchased almost 661,000 pounds of Snickers. Coming in second is Skittles and third is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.


Georgia – Jolly Ranchers

Georgia loves Jolly Ranchers. They’ve bought almost 143,000 pounds of the colorful hard candy. Swedish Fish is a second and Hershey Kisses are third.


Hawaii – Skittles

Skittles are the favorite candy in Hawaii. Nearly 276,000 pounds have been purchased of the rainbow candy. Hershey Kisses came in second and Butterfingers in third.


Idaho – Candy Corn

Candy Corn reigns supreme in Idaho. Nearly 90,000 pounds of the tri-colored candy has been purchased. Starbursts are the second favorite and Snickers third.


Illinois – Kit Kat

Kit Kats is Illinois’ favorite candy. A little over 169,000 pounds of Kit Kat bars have been purchased. A close second is Sour Patch Kids and Snickers are third.


Indiana – Hot Tamales

Indiana loves Hot Tamales. Over the past 11 years, nearly 100,500 pounds of Hot Tamales have been purchased. Starbursts are the state’s second favorite candy and Jolly Ranchers come in third.


Iowa – Candy Corn

Candy corn is the number one candy in Iowa. With over 61,000 pounds sold in 11 years, there is no denying that they love candy corn. M&M’s are the second most popular candy and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are third.


Kansas – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups is the candy to beat in Kansas. Over 245,000 pounds of the peanut butter and chocolate candy bars have been sold. M&M’s came in a close second while Snickers round out the top three.


Kentucky – Swedish Fish

Swedish Fish is the number one candy in Kentucky. Almost 74,000 pounds of the chewy candy has been sold. Tootsie Pops are second and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are third.


Louisiana – Lemonheads

Louisiana loves its Lemonheads. In the last 11 years, a little over 108,000 pounds of Lemonheads have been sold. Reese’s Cups are the second most popular candy in the state and Blow Pops are third.


Maine – Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids is Maine’s favorite candy. Almost 64,000 pounds of the gummies have been sold in Maine. Starburst is the second favorite and M&M’s are the third best.


Maryland – Milky Way

Milky Way candy bars are the number one candy bars in Maryland. a little over 41,000 pounds of the nougat chocolate bar has been sold. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the second favorite candy in Maryland and Hershey Kisses are third.


Massachusetts – Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids are the favorite candy in Massachusetts. Almost 79,000 pounds of the sweet and sour gummies have been sold. Butterfingers are the second favorite candy while Dubble Bubble Gum is third.


Michigan – Candy Corn

Michigan loves its candy corn. Almost 151,000 pounds of candy have been purchased in Michigan in the last 11 years. Starburst is the second favorite candy and Skittles is the third.


Minnesota – Tootsie Pops

Minnesota loves their Tootsie Pops. A little over 202,000 pounds of Tootsie Pops have been sold. Skittles are the second favorite and candy corn is the third.


Missouri – Milky Way

Milky Way is the number one candy bar in Missouri. The chocolate candy bar has sold 46,000 pounds in the last 11 years. Dubble Bubble Gum is the second favorite and Almond Joy is third.


Montana – Dubble Bubble Gum

Montana loves its Dubble Bubble Gum. The bubble gum is number one in the state by selling a little over 25,800 pounds of candy. Twix is their second favorite candy and M&M’s is third.


Nebraska – Salt Water Taffy

Nebraska loves their Salt Water Taffy. The candy is the number one in the state with almost 109,000 pounds sold. Sour Patch Kids are the second favorite and Twix are the third favorite.


Nevada – Candy Corn

Another state whose favorite candy is candy corn. The state has purchased almost 340,000 pounds of candy corn in 11 years. Hershey Kisses are the second favorite candy and Tootsie Pops are the third favorite.


New Hampshire – Starburst

New Hampshire’s number one candy is Starbursts. Almost 68,000 pounds of the chewy fruit candies have been sold. M&M’s are a close second for favorite candy and Snickers are number three.


New Jersey – Skittles

New York – Sour Patch Kids

New York’s favorite candy is Sour Patch Kids. The state had bought almost 204,000 pounds of the sour gummies. Candy corn is the state’s second favorite treat and HOt Tamales are the third favorite.


North Carolina – M&M’s

M&M’s are the number one candy in North Carolina. Almost 102,000 pounds of the chocolate candies have been sold in the state. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a close second, while Snickers come in at number three.


North Dakota – Hot Tamales

Hot Tamales are the favorite in North Dakota. Almost 70,000 pounds of the hot candies have been sold in North Dakota. Jolly Ranchers are the second favorite candy while candy corn is the third favorite.

Oklahoma – Dubble Bubble Gum

Oklahoma’s favorite candy is Dubble Bubble Gum. The state as purchased over 20,500 pounds of the gum since 2007. Snickers come in a close second and SKittles is number three.


Oregon – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Oregon’s number one candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. They’ve bought over 92,000 pounds of the PB and chocolate treat in the last 11 years. The second favorite candy is M&M’s and third is candy corn.


Pennsylvania – Skittles

Skittles reign supreme in Pennsylvania. Over 302,000 pounds of the fruity candies have been purchased since 2007. The second favorites are M&M’s and the third favorite is candy corn.


Rhode Island – Candy Corn

Candy corn is the favorite in Rhode Island. Rhode Islanders have purchased over 17,700 pounds of the tricolored candy. Twix candies are their second favorite and M&M’s are their third favorite.

Skittles are the favorites down in South Carolina. Their residents have purchased almost 118,900 pounds of Skittles in 11 years. Candy corn is their second favorite sweet and hot tamales are their third favorite.


South Dakota – Starbursts

South Dakota is a big fan of Starbursts. The state has purchased nearly 27,000 pounds of Starbursts in 11 years. Candy corn is a close second in the state with Jolly Ranchers coming in third.


Tennessee – Tootsie Pops

It’s all about Tootsie Pops in Tennessee. Almost 60,700 pounds of Tootsie Pops have been purchased in Tennessee. Skittles are the second favorite and Salt Water Taffy is the third favorite.


Texas – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

Texans love their Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Since 2007, Texans have purchased a little over 1,101,00 pounds of Reese’s. Their second favorite candy, with over a million pounds purchased, is Starburst and Almost Joy’s are third.


Utah – Jolly Ranchers

Utah’s favorite sweets are Jolly Ranchers. In 11 years, over 483,500 pounds of Jolly Ranchers have been purchased. Candy Corn comes in second place in Utah and Tootsie Pops are third.


Vermont – Milky Way

Milky Way bars are the number one candy in Vermont. Almost 32,000 pounds of Milky Way bars have been purchased in Vermont since 2007. Skittles are their second favorite candy followed my M&M’s.


Virginia – Hot Tamales

Hot Tamales are the candy to beat in Virginia. A little over 160,000 pounds of Hot Tamales have been purchased by people who live in Virginia since 2007. Snickers are their second favorite candy followed by Tootsie Pops.


Washington – Salt Water Taffy

Strangely Salt Water Taffy is the preferred candy in Washington state. Almost 221,000 pounds of Salt Water Taffy has been purchased for Halloween since 2007. Tootsie Pops are their second favorite, while Skittles are their third favorite.


West Virginia – Blow Pops

Blow Pops are the candy to beat in West Virginia. A little over 44,100 pounds of Blow Pops have been purchased since 2007. Milky Way bars are the second favorite candy followed by Hershey’s Mini Bars.


Wisconsin – Butterfingers

Wisconsin loves their Butterfingers. Almost 119,000 pounds of Butterfingers have been purchased. Starburst is the second favorite candy in Wisconsin followed by HOt Tamales.


Wyoming – Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the favorite candy in Wyoming. A little over 32,700 pounds of Reese’s have been purchased. Salt Water Taffy is the second favorite then Dubble Bubble Gum comes in third.
