Everyone’s Favorite “Get Drunk and Sing” Songs
Karaoke isn’t for everyone, and we all know that a vast majority of us should probably steer clear from public vocal performance, but there are some songs that you can’t help belting out. These ten gems are taken from my own college experience, but quite a few have proven universal favorites among the twenty-something set as we all know it.
With no further ado, the top ten songs I personally can’t help but sing. In no particular order, let’s start …
Dating: Who Gets The Last Laugh?
You date, you learn. And you’d think that the people you date will just vanish of the face off the earth, because it’s only polite, right? You dealt with the waves of nausea and anxiety during the end-phase, and so they should bother you no longer.
“Should” being the key word.
I’m a fan of amicably parting ways, sure, but when you pointedly don’t is the guaranteed time that son of a bitch will come back to haunt you. So …
Dating Don’t: Breaking the Bank
I love the fantasy version of dating where everything’s shrouded in a pink mist and it rains sunshine and daisies on you and your perfect mate. Music plays when you kiss, you’re wined and dined, showered with gift boxes from Tiffany’s… and everything’s fantastic because, duh, you’re in love. Or what Dane Cook refers to in many a sketch as “lerve.”
Clearly in Fantasyland there is no concept of money, which is the primary reason I would LOVE to move …
An Open Letter to Those Friends Who Think it’s Okay to Get Married Before 25
Dear Engaged Friends,
So, congratulations! Have you picked a date? Done the dress shopping? Gone cake tasting? Picked the esteemed members of your bridal party? Great! So if we could take a minute to shift the focus over to me? Yeah.
You’re freaking me out.
Early, early, early 20s are not a time when the general “you” should be worried about marriage, especially when I can’t even decide whether I want to go to grad school or work or what. …
A Scary Movie Throwback: Something to Scream About
Scary movies are one of those things that draw a strong response of either love or hate. I for one can’t really stomach violence (read: cannot count how many times I’ve covered my face watching BRAVEHEART either in classes or with guy friends), but there’s still an element of these horrendously predictable flicks that draws me in.
For one, if you look at them realistically, about 97% of the victims, as well as the hero, deserve to die for …
You Always Remember Your Worst
I consider myself an equal opportunity dater: non-discriminatory and always up for a new challenge. That’s not to say this hasn’t gotten me in trouble. Among those ranks, friends, can be filed a character I shall refer to from here on out as The Comedian.
Initially, this adventure was appealing for a variety of reasons, not the least of which were my love for funny men and an awkward crush I may have on Jerry Seinfeld. Who doesn’t enjoy laughing? …
Side Effects of a Chubby Childhood
I have an inner Chub-Scout. Sometimes, on binge days, she gets embraced a little tighter than usual. I use the term to be funny about it, and it tends to get a laugh, but it’s the bane of my existence.
By looking at me, you probably would just be confused by this statement until you saw me on this “binge” or “cheat” day. I’m your average twenty-something: purposefully purchasing jeans that do not induce OSTS, and have even been called …
Lunchbox Favorites: A Throwback
Dodgeball. Track and field day. Recess… There was a time when these words were what made us tick, when all that mattered was whether you could feasibly be cast as your favorite Disney princess. That, of course, along with what was packed in your lunchbox.
Hot lunch was only cool on pizza and chicken nugget days in my hometown, with macaroni and cheese in as close a third as possible. So rather than stash our hot lunch tickets in our …
Moving Woes and How to Deal
Moving, the actual process, is a less-than-awesome experience, the necessary evil to get your entire life from point A to point B in as little time as possible.
The process itself requires weeks of planning, stressing, throwing things away, trying to pawn things you can’t justify throwing out off on your friends, scrounging for money to pay for movers, and of course, that whole packing situation. Findind a new place is only the beginning.
Things to bear in mind while …
Bravo is Highly Underrated
I have a terrible love for reality television… but for some reason, Bravo’s is the best. Naturally Project Runway would be the initial draw, but after wasting many a weekend and weeknight hour in front of my TV, I’ve compiled a list of other reasons to tune in. Plus the fact that Heidi Klum is too much pretty contained in one person tends to depress me. In no particular order, here are some favorites:
