This is one of the things that I love about fashion. Designers can be “inspired” by something, and then channel it in a way that is on an entirely different planet than the original inspiration. For example, just because the Victorian-era inspired designers this season, doesn’t mean girls are rocking the insane junk-in-yo-trunk bustle. So instead of the clothes you’d sweat-it-out at the gym in, there are chic, sporty clothes for you instead.

One of the big trends for women this year is the tuxedo. And yes, I said for women. Just think Janelle Monae rocking on stage with her signature big bow-tie. While wearing a tuxedo is over the top for both men and women on a day-to-day basis (and tuxedo shirts are just unacceptable… sorry, dudes) a dressed down interpretation is with the tie-neck blouse. The tie-neck blouse is strictly for the ladies.

One of my greatest pet peeves about college students is the sloppiness often associated with going to class. True, sweatpants are comfortable, you’ll never be able to wear them during the day in the “real world” and it takes less effort than putting together an actual outfit. Lucky for people like myself with an eternal love for polka dots, designer heavy weights such as Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney had us seeing spots for their F/W 2011 collections. Yes ma’am, the polka dot is big (but not literally) this season.

While you don’t see them everyday on the street, there are those guys who flaunt their legs in the short shorts. If you’re dying to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe, this weekend is the time to do it, as many retailers are furthering reductions on items, or even just offering 35% off (Banana Republic what up!) on all items. Sure there are a lot of expenses related to school, but if you save some money by buying used textbooks, you have a little extra to go towards a new top.

College students intend to drink to get drunk, and 2. College students use alcohol as an excuse for hooking up. Yeah.
