In the spirit of the holiday, I’ve put together a list of 10 reasons I’m thankful for sex. I’m sure we can all agree there are many more than 10 reasons to be thankful for sexy time, but there is football to be watched, online sales to be shopped and pumpkin pie to be eaten. There just isn’t enough time in this day to say all my Thank You’s.

So, here goes.
My big, fat thank you to fornication!

1. Orgasms. ‘Nuff said.

2. Sex releases endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. They also make your hair shiny and skin smooth.

3. Sex makes babies. Babies are cute (as long as they’re not mine).

4. Sex is free (usually) and fun (usually).

5. Sex helps me connect with people. And not just the people I have sex with. Sex gives me dirty details to dish to my friends, the Internet, or even strangers on the subway.

6. Sex gives me something to write about every week. Which looks good on my resume. Which will help get me a job. Sex will get me a job!

7. Sex gives me something to daydream about during my long, boring biology lectures. (My professor may drone on, but he’s banging and I can only imagine what’s going on under those pleated khakis.)

8. Sex burns calories. Up to 300 an hour! So after today’s feast, it will only take about 25 hours of sex to burn it all off.

9. Sex helps me fall asleep at night, which is a much healthier habit than relying on sleeping pills. Plus it’s more fun. See #4.

10. Sex made me! I’d rather not think about the specifics, but some day a long time ago my parents had (gasp) sex and now here I am. And that is definitely something I can be thankful for.

Why are you thankful for sex?

Role playing is ESSENTIAL in any long-term, monogamous relationship.

And it’s just plain fun in any other situation.

Role playing allows us to live out our fantasies in a comfortable, safe situation, and adds some much needed variety to our sex lives. But as fun as it is to be someone else for a bit, it can also be really nerve-racking. We’re not all professional actors, and pretending to be someone else, especially when you’re naked and vulnerable, can be hard.

If you’ve never done it before, do it. And if you’re not sure how, here are my answers to a few questions you probably have:

Q. How do I tell my partner I want to role-play with seeming like I’m bored with him/her?

A. “I’ve always thought it would be really hot to sleep with a professor. Can I call you Dr. ______ tonight?” Most partners will be happy to help you fulfill your fantasies.

Q. What are some good role play scenarios to try?

A. Anything that turns you on. My favorites are situations where one person has to talk the other into sex because it’s “forbidden.” Something like teacher/student or boss/employee can be really hot, and you can alternate who does the convincing (i.e. naughty student or pervy professor).

Q. What do I say? How do I act?

A. Don’t try too hard or over think it; just say what comes naturally. In a “forbidden” scenario, the conversation is practically written for you (“I’m not sure about this.” “Don’t worry, no one has to know.”). For other scenarios just keep it basic in the beginning. Doctor/nurse – talk about the hospital you work at, firefighter/rescued person – talk about how scared you were and how thankful you are. It’s good to throw in some sexy stuff, but don’t force it. “I’ve wanted you all semester” is much hotter than “I’ll suck your D for an A.” You get the picture.

Q. What if I get tired of it halfway through?

A. It’s totally fine to use role playing as foreplay and then go back to your normal self when the sexing gets really hot. Not everyone can keep up the façade when they’re under so much intense pleasure. You’re partner will understand.

Q. Do I have to dress up?

A. No, but it might be fun. We’re college students, so we all know how to work a theme party. Feel free to apply the same ideas to the bedroom.

1. Describe your personal style. My personal style is what I like to describe as “future-rich-housewife-hipster-royalty.”  I love gold, fur, purple, and anything slightly extravagant.  You’ll never see me wearing silver.  I love bright scarves and also, velvet leggings because jeans can be uncomfortable.

2. Complete this sentence: You can’t leave your house without…. My handbag.  Usually my handbags are brightly colored with gold hardware. So, even if I’m wearing all black, my outfit isn’t completely boring.

3. What are your favorite stores to shop at? I love Urban Outfitters, H&M, Juicy Couture, and Marc Jacobs.

4. What/who is the biggest influence on your style? The biggest influence on my style is English royalty from the 1700 to 1800s.  I love the extravagance of gold, gems, fur, pearls, and lace.  Will I go all out in all of it?  Not so much, but a little touch of it here and there, makes me feel like a queen.

5. What’s your favorite trend, past or present? My favorite trend is sweatpants in college.  It’s the only time in my life I can wear sweats around everyday and not be completely scrutinized.  And with all the super tight jeans, jewelry, and heels, secretly I just would love to wear sweatpants all day long, every day.  So, I’m totally taking advantage of the “college-fashion” trend while I can.

Here are some ground rules for having a fun and successful rebound fling.

Don’t expect to fall in love. When you’ve just gotten out of an intense relationship, it can be tempting to look for your next true love. Don’t. Rebound sex can help you get back in the game, but it’s not going to replace your ex. Expecting anything more than casual fun sets you up for another heartache.

Don’t deny your emotions. You shouldn’t be looking for your next great love right away, but that doesn’t mean you should be ignoring any emotions you have. Your first time having sex with someone new is bound to bring up some emotions. It’s better to acknowledge and deal with these, good and bad, than to deny them completely. Trust me, they always make their way to the surface eventually… and it’s super awkward when “eventually” is “while you’re on top and start crying onto his chest.”

Don’t settle. Don’t hop into bed with the next man you meet just because you’re anxious to get back out there or, worse, you think that’s the answer to all your problems. Wait for someone you actually want to be with, or you’ll end up regretting it in the daylight.

Don’t compare to your ex. At least, not out loud. But really, it’s not going to be the same. It takes time and effort to get to the comfort level most couples reach. Rebound flings don’t usually make it that far, and that’s okay.

Use protection. This is especially important if you weren’t using condoms because your last relationship was monogamous. You won’t know your next partner’s history nearly as well as you knew your ex’s. Go pick up some condoms, now!

Obviously, a lot of these involve sex. (What can I say? It’s always on my mind.)

So this week, I’ve decided to put together a comprehensive list of every last place we all should have sex (not together, of course) before walking the plank into real life. Unfortunately, I go to an all-women’s college so most of these are just wishful thinking for me, but they are more than feasible and exciting for the rest of you.

An empty classroom. Make sure you can’t be seen from the window on the door.

On the top bunk. You haven’t experienced college if you’ve never banged your head in cowgirl position.

A frat house. Use protection.

The shower. Don’t forget your flip-flops

You’re roommate’s bed. Just make sure she won’t be coming home in the middle of it… and clean the sheets after.

The movie theater. In case you didn’t get to in high school. Might be better to stick to heavy petting on this one.

A stranger’s house at a party. Find an empty room, unless you’re really adventurous.

Outside. I once had sex up against a tree in the Rocky Mountains. Highly recommended.

An on-campus bathroom. For the between-class quickie.

You’re bedroom at home. Because you’re finally allowed to have the door closed when boys are over.

A cheap hotel room. Because who can afford a 5-star hotel for a romantic weekend away?

On the beach. Spring Break is just around the corner….

On an airplane. Might be better to just throw a blanket over your laps and do some handiwork; there’s no need to get Homeland Security involved in your sex life.

In a foreign country. If you’re not studying abroad, at least do it in another state.

In the library. I can’t think of a better use for group-study rooms. And that whole “sex in the stacks” really is a rite of passage.

The best part about having Meredith as my roommate for the past two years has to be my unlimited access to her wardrobe. I can’t even complain about her taking up the entire closet because it’s always the first place I look when I need something cute to wear out.

Meredith can put together the perfect outfit for any occasion. She works at Ann Taylor, so she’s expert at putting together a professional-but-not-boring outfit for class or a job interview. Despite her college student budget, she can always throw together an elegant ensemble for a swanky dinner party. This song has been in my head for weeks, probably because perfectly describes what I’m living through. I recently broke up with my boyfriend.

Except not really.

Long-distance was not working out for us, so we tried an open relationship. When that didn’t fix anything, I ended it… two days before going to visit him for two weeks. Awkward much? I visited and we carried on like nothing had changed, promising we would start acting broken up once I left.

I’ve been home for over a month now and we still talk every day. He asked me to be his Valentine. I’m visiting over spring break, which also includes our one-year anniversary, and we’re still celebrating it. I’ve been on two dates, and each time felt like I was cheating. How could anyone call this broken up?

My situation may be especially strange, but I know many of my friends have been in similar positions. It’s hard to let go of someone, and usually that means a break up is more of a process than an event. You end things, cry, drunk dial, cry, sleep together, cry, keep sleeping together, get it together, stop sleeping together, move on. It ends up looking something like this.

And now that I’m in it, I’m confused. I know that I’m probably not going about this right, but I’m not sure what right is.

Can break up sex be right?

What do you girls (and guys) think of sex with a recent ex? Is it a normal part of the break up process? A good way to get closure? An immature means of trying to hang on to the past? A sign of a deep fear of being alone?

I personally think it varies for everyone. I have friends that have had break-up sex once, then moved on and never looked back. I’ve also had friends that have kept sleeping with someone who broke their heart hoping he would change his mind. How do you know which one you’ll end up being?

This is one topic I’m just not an expert on, so I’ll leave it up to you guys to debate in the comments.

Break-up sex: good or bad?

Everyone’s got their celebrity/iconic role models. Some look up to Hillary Clinton for being such a strong, empowered woman. Some look up to Lady Gaga for being who she is, regardless of what other people think. Some may even look up to Tyra for proving that crazy people can get famous too.

Personally, I think all of those women are great (or crazy, in the case of the last one), but I have my own role models, whom I look up to for something very near and dear to my heart: sex. These women are all confident, beautiful, and not afraid to talk about sex. I have invited each of these women into my bedroom (their attitudes, at least)  and each has helped me enjoy sex and my own sexuality a whole lot more.

How She Inspired Me: I assume she’s had sex with Ryan Reynolds in an elevator without anyone finding out and that’s something I’ve always wanted to do…

As we all know, sex doesn’t always happen like it does in the movies (especially of the porn variety). Here are some tips to help deal when things get a little less magical and a lot more awkward.

Mr. Mute
He hasn’t made a single sound since we started – what do I do?

1. Check to see if he’s still awake. If he’s sleeping (or passed out) roll over and pretend you passed out too. This will make things way less awkward in the morning. And don’t worry – it happens to the best of us. It’s not that your signature move was so boring it put him to sleep; it’s probably due to a little too much Natty Light. If he’s awake, proceed to step two.
2. Say his name and make some noises yourself. Hopefully he’ll feel more comfortable and speak up. Still not working?
3. Bite him really hard so that he yelps in pain. If he still doesn’t make a sound, he’s probably in some sort of hypnotic trance. Pride yourself on being so amazing in bed you stunned him, then get the hell out of there lest you be blamed when he ends up in a coma.

Bloody Mary
Uh-oh, my period came early this month. What do I do?

1. “I’m so glad my first time was with you!” This can work if you say it sincerely (it could be a fun way to freak out your one night stand) or if you say it jokingly to take the edge off.
2. Clean it up. If his sheets are a mess, offer to wash them with him.
3. Move on. Most men won’t be traumatized for life after seeing a little bit of blood, so be the two consenting adults that you are and get over it.

Stage Fright
He can’t get it up, help!

1. Assure him that you’re in no rush and love just making out. Taking the pressure off might help him get into the right state of mind. Not working?
2. Cut your losses. Pushing the situation for too long will just make him more embarrassed. Find something fun to do instead that takes his mind off things and shows him you don’t care either.
3. “But I’m still horny!” If that’s the case, you can always ask for some oral pleasure. Most of the time (unless you skipped over #2 and he’s now crying in the fetal position) he won’t want to leave you high and dry and will be more than happy to please.

Welcome to the Sahara
I’m really turned on, but the juices aren’t flowing. What do I do?

1. If you have lube, use it! There’s no shame in needing some extra moisture.
2. No lube? Saliva works great, and it’s more fun to apply.
3. If it still feels too dry or hurts, don’t push yourself or you’ll be sore afterward. Find some other way you can both be satisfied.
