Ah yes, that time of year has arrived once again: shorts weather. You may love it, you may dread it, you may be torn between the two, but you can't deny it's upon us. And it's time to shave your legs.
Being a girl has its perks, especially when it comes to scoring free drinks at the bar. But being a girl also takes a lot of work and costs a whole lot o' cashola. Just think about all the things we need to pay for that guys don't: waxing, haircare, makeup, Spanx, the list goes on.
I'll admit, a few years ago when leggings came back in style, I thought there was no way I'd wear them. In fact, I told everyone I knew that I'd rather "walk around pants-less than try and pass off some leggings as pants." Obviously, I've since eaten my words.
Summer sundresses are awesome for so many reasons: they're comfy, they're cute and they're totally versatile. You can pair 'em with all kinds of shoes (flats, sandals, heels, wedges, boots; you name it, it can work), and you can wear 'em over a bikini, for those last warm days on campus, or for a night out.
Jeans are an amazingly versatile little thing: you can dress them up or dress them down; wear them in winter or summer: and find them in a seemingly unlimited variety of cuts, colors and styles. Denim is ALWAYS in in some form or another, and this season is no exception.
Every year, as the snow melts and we are once again able to break out the flippy floppies, we begin to see flowers popping up everywhere. And I'm not just talking about in planters and vases. Florals are consistently a huge spring trend, and this year is no exception.

It's been a long, cold winter, but March and Spring Break are finally here! For those of you spending a week in a warm and sunny environment, here are some Spring-Break-I'm-going-to-paradise-and-I-need-to-look-cute-and-show-off-my-bangin-bod essentials for under $20.

If Punxsutawney Phil was correct this year, we now only have 3 more weeks of winter, which means we can soon wash away those winter blues and bust out those spring styles. This year, Pantone's top color will be turquoise, which is not only a fun, bright color that can be mixed with everything from neutrals to browns to other brights, but it looks great on nearly everyone.
Feb 23, 2010
This Sunday is February 14th, that equally loved and dreaded holiday all about looooove. While you may be worrying about whether you have a date or not, there's no need to worry about what you're gonna wear. There are tons of affordable and adorable options out there for any of those V-Day plans.
I love tights. They not only keep me warm during the winter, but they’re also a fun way to express...
Though grossly under-rated, hair accessories might be one of the best ways to spice up an outfit and add a special flair. Cheaper than a hot pair of shoes and more practical than a bunch of bangles, headbands and hairpins do double duty: they accessorize and pull that hair out of your face.
You've seen the commercials (and most likely remember them because they used to discuss "the big O"), but have you actually perused Overstock.com? The site might be overwhelming to some, but that is because it is chock full of awesome deals on clothes, shoes and accessories (in addition to home goods, decor and linens). Overstock.com brings you items that are marked down by up to 80% (!!) and they ship fast and cheap.
It's no secret that you can easily find stylish looks for under $20 all over the place. From Forever 21 to Wet Seal, us gals know where to go for the deals. Occasionally, though, my quest for cuteness leads me to a website I've never heard of that has some great finds, like this one: Heavenly Couture. Nothing on this site is over $17.95. Nothing!
Hard to believe that in only 2 days we'll be ringing in the new year and it'll have been a decade since all that Y2K mumbo jumbo. I know; that whole "only 2 days" thing freaked me out, too. Not because I'm not ready for 2010, but because I'm not ready for NYE.
So if you're like me, part of the fun of being a girl is getting all beautified and purtied up. I mean, beyond the fun that is playing with makeup, what's the point of putting together a cute outfit if your skin looks dry, your hair looks flat and you smell like a thrift store?
So Hanukkah begins on Friday and Christmas is 17 days away, which means it's time for holiday parties, dinners, and gatherings of family and friends. And that means you'll need some super cute looks to show off.
I'll be honest: I always thought Alloy was for the 12-17 age group, but then I started flipping through their merchandise and realized that they have a ton of cute stuff for us more sophisticated ladies. I mean, how could you not love this dress!?
If I know one thing it's that girls who only shop at Victoria's Secret for the bras/panties/sexy lingerie are really missing out. That Vicki has a lot more to offer than lacy underthings that make your boobs look huge; Victoria's Secret is also an awesome place to stock up on clothes, shoes and beauty products. They even have jeans that give your butt some lift!
It's really no secret that Payless carries a bevy of cute, stylish and affordable shoes these days, especially with designers like Lela Rose, Alice + Olivia and Christian Siriano designing for them. But did you know they also carry a slew of frugalista-friendly accessories
God, what did we ever do without the internet? Besides the amazingness that comes from sites like this, there's online shopping. And it rules! You can get all your favorite things without leaving the house and online stores can charge less for all of it since they don't have to spend all that extra money on actual storefronts. That means lots of fabulosity without spending lots of money.
I'm pretty sure there is nothing better in life than a really fantastic sale section. Especially at a store stocked with things you already love. Take home some awesome finds on the cheap? Yes please! Much like Urban Outfitters and Express, Tilly's is chock full of really cute stuff at a somewhat "affordable" price. But it is in their fabulous sale section where you really hit the fashion jackpot.
So, Express isn't cheap. That is pretty obvious when you walk in and the hot shirt your eying for your birthday party is marked at $49. But every few months, they have a major sale. And I mean major. The kind that makes you giddy and happy and willing to sift through giant over-stuffed racks because the deals are just. that. good.
Thanks to the tips of a fellow CollegeCandy writer (thanks Cristina!), I have discovered a website I never knew existed. After getting over the fact that I was forced to live this long sans this site, I embraced the new find and I'm loving it! It's called Karma Loop and they have a great selection of some awesome brands.
I have a love/hate relationship with Urban Outfitters. I fall madly in love with everything on the racks, but hate how much they charge for shirts, skirts and dresses that usually fall apart after a few go-rounds in the washing machine. But then I fall in love again when those trendy little Urban employees stock the sale racks with all that gorgeous goodness.
Ok, so Delia*s may not seem like the best place to find some threads once you're out of high school, but if you look in the right places, it's a wardrobe gold mine. They have some great basics, even better accessories, and a lot of their stuff is trendy on the cheap (especially if you check out their seasonal clearance/sale).
The recession is bad news for anyone looking to get a job, save some money or sell a house. But it's great news for fashionistas! Stores that were once dowdy and just screamed "crazy cat lady" are bringing in new designers to create chic lines at lower prices.
I just discovered The 15 Dollar Store online, where everything is (drumroll please)...15 buckaroos. They def have some cute stuff and even some brands like Romeo & Juliet Couture, Rampage and Chinese Laundry at 50% or more off! They sell everything from clothes to shoes to accessories and with the $15 price tag on all items, there's no need to feel guilty...
I've known for years that Wal-Mart was a great place to go to get cheap snacks, toiletries, electronics, etc., but I never thought I'd buy clothes there. There is only one big-box store whose dressing rooms I'll enter and that is Tarjay. There is no way any K-Mart, Wal-mart, or any other mart could produce fashion that would catch my eye.
Now that I'm back in school and broke thanks to a few trips to the bookstore, saving money is more essential than ever. But so is a brand new fall wardrobe! Luckily, American Eagle is a great stop for super comfy weekend/gym/off-to-class clothes on the cheap. There are always awesome deals to be had, and here are just a few of my favorite things.
For a long time, I thought Newport News was a total "mom store" with terribly outdated and, well, momish stuff. Then, a few months ago I noticed some of their stuff in mags like Lucky, InStyle and Glamour and realized that they actually had some super cuteness going on.
For many of you, school has already begun or will shortly, which means new additions to the wardrobe are necessary. Woohoo! But you don't have to spend a lot to update that 2008 fall wardrobe. Old Navy is a great place to get cute basics at super reasonable prices.
So as I write this, I'm sitting on my lanai (balcony) overlooking the beautiful, blue Maui ocean (yes, I'm on my first "real" vacay in years), which means I'm not particularly keen on scouring the internet for under $20 deals for long periods of time (not to mention, they're only giving me an hour of free wifi). So where did I head? The mother of all cheap & trendy spots: Forever 21.
This week we take another trip down cheap & trendy lane to Charlotte Russe. This is a great place to shop if you're looking for affordable, well, anything. Hot evening looks, basic day looks, super sexy shoes, way cute accessories and everything in between - Ms. Charlotte has it all.
So I know you're thinking: "How can you get anything for under $20 at a department store like Macy's?" I get it - sometimes I feel like I can't even afford to breathe the air in that store and I am doomed to spend my life lusting for everything on the over-stuffed racks. But I'm here to tell you it's not impossible.
This week the store of choice is Wet Seal. Not only does it have cute and trendy clothes on the cheap, if you order from the website there's a flat rate shipping fee of $5, which you can order just by clicking on any (or all!) of the items below.
There's nothing that puts a smile on my face like finding a fantastic bargain, and since we all wanna look good in a crappy economy, finding those deals is even more important these days. Each week I'll feature one store/website where you can find eight A-dorable items for under $20 (not too shabby, right?).
