Valentine’s Day is in just three days and I have one question for you: do you know what you’re wearing yet? You may be thinking, I don’t have a significant other. Why does it matter what I wear? Regardless of whether you have a boyfriend, a hook up, a crush or if you’re completely single, you should still try on V-Day. I know, I know it seems like a waste of time but I can think of two reasons to dress up even if you’re not dating anyone. 1. You could find someone. And 2. It will make you feel better about yourself if you’re wearing a cute outfit instead of walking around in slouchy sweatpants. Also, you could go out with your girlfriends and make all the guys drool over how hot you all look. You know I’m right.

Now, back to the question of “what are you going to wear?” Don’t worry, College Fashion‘s got you covered!

Whether it be the latest look of Betsey Johnson’s spring/summer collection, Lauren Conrad photographed glamming it up in Hoboken or seeing that trendy chick in your biology class rock something fresh, there is no denying that spring trends are taking over. Completely over my dry skin, frizzy hair and all this winter weather in general, I have no problem developing an unhealthy addiction to the latest looks. I will be celebrating the first official day of spring in one of my favorite new trends: High-waist, distressed denim shorts.

I discovered the trend in early January as I tried to drown out my winter blues by searching swim suit designers on Etsy.com. For those of you who don’t know about Etsy, it’s a fabulous site serving as a virtual boutique for up and coming designers that create unique, one of a kind crafts, clothes and accessories. Thrift store junkies-this is your haven! While searching wedges, tank tops and swim suit cover ups, I stumbled upon a collection called BajuesBest.

BajuesBest consisted of numerous pairs of denim shorts. Not simple blacks, whites or navy pairs, but gorgeous works of art. Each pair was personalized with ombre dyes, studs and vintage cuts. I immediately fell in love with the fit and fades of unnatural denim colors. I contacted the designer (or should I say artist) Julia, and received a pair of high-waist charcoal denim along with a faded, studded, pink vest that made me feel like a cleaner, more fashionable form of Ke$ha.

The shorts fit snugly against hips and right below the belly button. They are such a fabulous alternative to the classic t-shirt and jean shorts. Michelle Williams has had a pretty great year. Between receiving oral from Ryan Gosling and being chosen to play Marilyn Monroe in a critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated film, I’d say she’s probably one of the luckiest ladies in Hollywood. I’ve been a huge fan of hers since she was the tortured girl next door (not named Joey Potter) on Dawson’s Creek, and I love that she is getting so much recognition for her talent and beauty.

I’ll be honest – at first glance, I didn’t really care for this outfit. Something about it seemed sloppy and less-than-appealing. Yet certain elements compelled me to give it a second look, and I saw so much potential. I really love the idea, and I knew it could be improved upon (I know, my humility is astounding). Polka dot dresses are delightfully retro and classic, and I love the structure and silhouette of the one I found at Delia’s. I feel like I usually only see black and white polka dots combined with black, white or red, so I really appreciated Michelle’s choice of gray. It’s understated while still being an interesting contrast. Gray booties and shiny black tights complete the look, adding a quirky finish to this ensemble. I really like that you can easily dress this further down for class or dress it up for a date or work; Versatility is always a plus.

Hello CollegeCandy viewers! My name is Meg, and I’ll be taking over the “Budget Stylista” column. I’m a freshman at the best school in Ohio, so adjusting to the “college budget” has been a tough transition, especially with my passion for style. Though shopping on a budget takes a little more effort, it can keep your closet full and your wallet fuller. With spring approaching new trends have been gracing the malls, outlets, runways and celebrities ensembles.

A few major trends, including color blocking and blazers, have been seen just about everywhere. Designers like Jason Wu, Donatella Versace and Balenciaga have welcomed the trend with open arms. With fresh looks and a refreshing pallet of colors, spring 2012 is looking to be an innovatively stylish season! (Click all the photos for shopping deets!)

Versace Spring 2012: Though neutral frocks ruled the runway, dainty pastels and brights like this little number stole the show. Finally, after months of dreary winter earth tones, it’s time to freshen your look with a burst of color. For those of you cautious stylistas, bold amounts of brights is the first step in your color blocking mission. The recreated ensemble features a coral mini with cream accents and simple jewelry. Total cost: $108

Jason Wu spring 2012: I honestly believe Jason Wu is my spirit animal. Jason has an incredible talent of taking a cup of couture, a quart of quality and a teaspoon of street chic to create gorgeous collections fit for fashionistas and minimalists alike. Take a high waist pair of shorts and pair them a fitted blazer to create a trendy NYC inspired look. Pair with an edgy pair of H&M kicks (did I mention they’re priced at $16?!)  and some funky shades. Total costs: $119

Balenciaga Runway 2012: Balenciaga is never one to disappoint, or fear taking risks. In B’s runway collection, clashing printed ensembles and lace ups were rocked in many different ways. With a Kelly Ewig marbled skirt and an H&M fitted leopard top, the patterns are so wrong they work together perfectly. If there is one thing to learn from the geniuses behind Balenciaga, it’s that opposites do attract; so much so that they go on to create a beautiful love child. Total cost: $140

Jessica Alba has totally become one of my fashion muses. Her love of bright colors, flattering silhouettes and awesome versatile pieces has cemented her place as one of my fave celeb fashionistas. I’m particularly obsessed with one of her recent ensembles because of its vibrancy and interesting color scheme.

Blue and orange definitely isn’t my color combination of choice, but I’m really loving how Jessica rocked it here. This light blue blazer complements blood orange nicely, creating a surprisingly feminine, eye-catching look. Combined with a sexy black pencil skirt and black peep toes, this magically becomes a potentially awesome outfit suitable for work, if your office isn’t uber-conservative. This could just as easily be the perfect look for brunch or a coffee date, too. Moreover, all of these pieces are super flexible, and you could manipulate any element to fit your own personal style. Could you ask for any more from one outfit? I don’t think so.
