“I’m so ready for the new year.”

And you know what? I couldn’t agree more. After a year of ups and downs, college graduation, and a weird new existence of life after college, I too am ready to get rid of my frenemy, 2010.

Personally for me, 2010 has been very strange. It was either really good or really, really bad – no in between. I haven’t had a year this bipolar since venturing off to college in 2006. Needless to say, my relationship with the past twelve months is something that I’m not looking to hold onto or cherish because, well, if this were a real life relationship, I’m pretty sure my BFFs would tell me to kick that jerk to the curb.

So, at the stroke of midnight, I’m doing just that.
See you never, 2010!

OK, so 2010 wasn’t a total bust. Half of it was spent rounding out my senior year of college (which rocked my socks off), and I did learn a lot about myself. It’s just that like many post-grads, I feel like since graduation all the things I’ve wanted to come true haven’t. While most people have had a few lucky breaks, the majority of us are still searching for that perfect opportunity, that new something that energizes us. We’ve grown cynical and lost the faith that we’d find our passion and go on to do great things with our college degrees. We have run out of steam to find what we’re looking for and the confidence that we can even get it.

But with 2011 coming, it’s like a new start. A second chance. A big moment where we can say goodbye to the bad and hello to the exciting and new. The rollercoaster ride of 2010 is over and with a new year, we can only expect better. I mean, seriously – having graduated into the worst economy since the Great Depression….it has got to get better!

So here’s to a 2011 that kicks 2010’s ass, a year that makes post-grad dreams come true, and a lot of champagne on New Year’s Eve to commemorate your first new year out of college. Whether it’s been good or bad, happy or sad, everything you wanted or nothing you dreamed of, at least we have 2011 to start anew!

2010 was a big year in entertainment.  This was the year that people not only realized how ridiculous Speidi is, but also realized that Kate Gosselin might be the devil in disguise.  A little guidette by the name of Snooki managed to steal our hearts (and make us lust for pickles) and Miley made it pretty clear that she was all grown up.  But there were a few people who really made the most of 2010, and as we say goodbye to this year, we think it’s important that we recognize them.

Hint: I’m talking about some of the very same technology that we all freaked out about when it first came out.

Smartphone vs. Smartphone: Google entered the smartphone market when they launched their Android all the way back in January. But that didn’t scare Apple away from launching their new iPhone in June (though its reception favored left-handed talkers and called for ton of free “bumper” cases from Steve Jobs). Then came the Blackberry Torch in August and the Windows 7 phone in October. It seems that Smartphones are no longer a luxury item, but a necessity. You were cool if you had one in 2009, but if you don’t have one by 2011, you and your T9Word texting on that black-and-white screen better start saving up.

Foursquare: The schoolyard ballgame is now a new type of social media? Okay, so the “game” started back in 2009, but our favorite businesses and restaurants didn’t start playing until this year. And even though it’s pretty creepy to let complete strangers know where you are and where you’ve been and what you’re doing at any moment, it’s pretty awesome that you can “check in” for discounts. By the end of this holiday (shopping) season, I will be Mayor of my local mall…and my bank account be mayor of “broke.”

Apple’s iPad: It’s like an iPod Touch for giants! Hopefully, the fancy tablet will continue on its mission to revitalize the print magazine industry. As of now it’s changing the way we read books and surf the interwebs, and doing a great job pumping up gaming app sales. Have you played Doodle Jump on an iPad yet?!? If not, you don’t even know the definition of addiction.

Facebook Add-ons: We all thought it was weird when Zuckerberg announced the new version of Groups, and people freaked out about their privacy when Places launched. Most of us are still revolting against he new profile by refusing to get it, but soon, this year’s Facebook add-ons will become second nature with our daily scanning and stalking – just like last year’s additions did.

ChatRoulette: It’s hard to imagine a pre-party or post-party without it. What were we all doing with our lives before it became possible to video chat with random people around the world? And by “video chat” I mean “see random penises or people in freaky costumes.” But whatever. You can thank 2010 for that.

It’s wonderful to learn from your mistakes of the past year, I really believe that. Not wearing white undies under black leggings, always putting those comfy inserts into your super-high heels, throwing an extra tampon in your handbag – they’re valuable lessons that should be embraced and carried into the New Year.

That being said, there are some horrible oversights, mistakes, and trends that should be shoved under the rug and never to be spoken of again. Put your head in the sand and make like these tragedies never happened.

Halloween 2010 is finally here and we’re looking forward to celebrating the only national college holiday that ends with me getting stabbed in the eye by an oversized fairy wing. While we’re excited to see all the awesome creative costumes, we’re also dreading seeing all the cliche and uninspired pop culture costumes. Like c’mon, how many Michael Jacksons did we really need last year? And we’re sure this year will be no different.  That’s why we put together this list of costumes that we’re sure will be at every single college Halloween party.

In fact, we’re so sure that you’ll see all these costumes that we’re throwing a Halloween photo contest. Be the first person to upload a photo of a different person wearing each of these costumes to our Facebook Fan Page and WIN A COLLEGE CANDY BEER PONG TABLE (like the one in this photo). You don’t have to upload them all in a row, but you do have to be the first one to get all ten photos uploaded. (On the slight chance that no one manages to photograph all 10, the person who uploads the most photos, the fastest will win. And in case more than one of you snaps all 10, we’ll put all your names in a witch hat and randomly draw a winner.) You have until November 2nd to get those photos in and we’ll announce the winner on Facebook at 12pm EST on November 3rd.

1. The Kanye: How easy and tempting is it going to be for people to put on a pair of brightly colored sunglasses and make a toast to all the douchebags? Either that, or throw on a fuchsia sweater vest and act like a dick. Extra points if he spends all night shoving “Taylor Swift” to the side.

2. The Lady Gaga: I was thinking I might wrap a red cloth over my face or wear a Filet Mignon on my head.  What do you think?  Lady Gaga had some extremely crazy outfits this year and I’m expecting to see at least a few make an appearance on the party circuit. And no, I won’t be surprised when that super skinny girl that you always see at the gym wraps herself in caution tape and carries a telephone all night.

3. The Mel Gibson: We all know Mel Gibson was a huge a-hole this year so don’t be shocked when you see people screaming into a cell phone the entire night with an Australian accent, saying affectionate things like “You effing whore!“

4. The Sue Sylvester: An extremely easy costume (blond wig + track suit + attitude = done) and that’s why we’re expecting to see quite a few Sues dancing in the crowd. Only problem? There’s nothing less fun than an unfunny Sue Sylvester impersonator.

5. Jersey Shore: Drawn-on abs? Spray tans? Ed Hardy t-shirts? Dirty pads hanging from the back of a too-tight dress? You’ll see so many of these on October 31st (and 29th….and 30th) that you’ll wonder if you were some how teleported to Seaside.

6. BP Clean-up Specialist: With some dish washing gloves, a surgical mask, and an oil-covered stuffed animal, this costume will be repeated over and over again throughout the weekend.

7. Anyone from Twilight: The vampire teeth are cheap and a ton of guys will be hoping that they will be enough to convince a drunk girl that they’re just as good looking as Rob Pattinson.

8. ‘The Hangover’ Guys: Because that movie never gets old! Oh wait, it totally does.

9. Lindsay Lohan: Not only is it simple to put together (stringy hair, leggings and a bag of Splenda) but the drunker the costume-wearer gets, the more authentic he/she will look.

10. An Avatar: Because there are enough people out there who will want an excuse to paint themselves blue and run around wearing nothing but a loincloth.
