Thanks to all the technology that’s out today, I always have the latest information. Facebook events spread the word about the parties, Twitter feeds fill my day with celebrity updates, and text messages make it easy to whisper gossip directly to anyone’s inbox.

But all that is just about my world. My miniscule – and mostly menial – collegiate bubble, where my issues of hunger revolve around the bad food at the dining hall and my worries of poverty root back to spending too much at the bar last weekend.

Who are the people I should know, the ones who are really making the news?

Somebody didn’t get to eat their Cracker Jacks for breakfast this year and has a raging and swollen case of the ‘crabby pants.’ That somebody is Mel Gibson.  But crabby pants might be an understatement.  The man is absolutely reserving the Presidential Suite at the Loopy Inn.  If you haven’t listened to any of the four tapes leaking on to the internet lately, take the dive and listen to one. It’s enough to make your skin crawl, not to mention demand a refund for that time you saw Maverick.

I sat in my kitchen in fear (he sounded like a self-possessed man demon) and listened to the man scream into the speaker at his wife: “I deserve to be b***n BEFORE THE JACUZZI!” Yeah, that’s a direct quote. From former heartthrob, Mel Gibson. The only thing this guy deserves before the jacuzzi is a swift strike to the throat and a branded ‘Scum Bag’ mark to his forehead.

I’m so disturbed.

However, since Mel Gibson decided to hit the crazy fan and let the pieces of his racist and terrible existence sprinkle down upon them he is giving some of the raunchiest men in Hollywood a run for their money.  Seriously, Gibson has ranked himself with douchiest men out there and settle into the ranks as a piece of the nastiest scum in Hollyweird’s big toe.  Our question to you is, who is the worst of the bunch now that Gibson has scampered into the ranks and embedded himself into a (hopefully graduating) class of tools?

Tiger Woods: Ok, I understand his “sex addiction” super horny feelings took him to the trashiest woman’s bed side, our entire nation caught him and he should be shunned behind his golf visor forever. The man with the hottest wife of all time actually sacrificed his relationship to bump uglies with a slew of tattooed tramps! But his dirty/gross/sexual text messages to his naughty nymphos were nothing compared to the abusive/racist/despicable things Mel has been caught muttering.

Charlie Sheen: Ugh, while Sheen has proved that the third time’s a charm by assaulting (not one) but three women, Gibson’s charming three are racism, verbal assault, and psycho tendencies.  Oh, and four recordings proving his a-hole movement. It’s in the numbers: Mel is definitely skipping down A-hole Avenue hand and hand with the Sheen-erator.

Chris Brown: He’s a sleaze. He’s gross. He did something so awful that should never be forgiven. (You listening, RiRi?)  But as time (not so gracefully) passes for Chris Breezy,  Mel Gibson is stealing his thunder while abusing his girlfriend both physically and emotionally . Plus, there is a baby in the mix. You know CB is sitting at home thinking, “I wonder if my boy Mel will help me fork garbage in ditches.”

Al Gore: Mr. Global Warming may have unraveled an inconvenient truth while trying to seduce his massage therapist (whoops), but the jury is still out on whether this tale is true.  Mel Gibson’s solid recorded evidence makes tales about Gore’s possible ‘DNA’ markings on his massage therapist’s pants look mediocre.

Jesse James: The guy’s Nazi “costume” was in bad taste, but images fade and Gibson’s angry and racist rants will forever haunt his existence.

Okay, so our generation has received a lot of flack for not being able to form real, long-lasting relationships, thanks to technology and archaic dating rules about college that span from the 1500′s. But here at CollegeCandy, we’d like to give a big smooch of thank you to the politicians who have set the standard for the foundation of great relationships. It’s people like them that give us faith that men can be intelligent, sexy, and cheaters – a three in one. In light of the accusations Al Gore has currently received, here are the 5 lessons these politicians have taught us in love, life and relationships. Thanks, ya’ll.

John Edwards: Keep everything under wraps, I mean everything. Totally okay to be having other relationships, just gotta make sure your significant other doesn’t know about it. I mean, the baby.

Mark Sanford: When married life gets tough, go to an exotic place to relax, unwind and meet the love of your live. Just don’t tell everyone and vanish in plain sight. It’s sooo mysterious and just plain sexy.

Larry Craig: Don’t let jet lag take the spice out of your love life. Take advantage of unique situations, like the ability to hook up in airport bathrooms. It’s convenient and adventurous – knock two birds with one stone.

Al Gore: Don’t let a sexual moment slip you by! Take a moment to appreciate the fact that someone is touching your naked body. Do them a favor and touch them back.

Elliot Spitzer. Having trouble meeting people? Have no fear, for $10K a night, you could have a companion to eat dinner with, talk to, and you know, do other stuff.

Hugs and kisses, these politicians sure have taught us valuable lessons in life and in love.

Hollywood never ceases to amaze me. While last week was bonkers, this week proved – in the famous words of Perez from Degrassi Goes Hollywood – that “You’re only as big as your latest scandal.” So that would make Jeremy London super huge (and super shady) this week, Al Gore creepily huge and Miley Cyrus not so big, but at least she got rid of those nappy extensions.

Let’s discuss, shall we?

The Dirty Deets:

1. Edith Shane, the woman in the famous WWII photo of an American soldier kissing a nurse in the streets of New York, passed away this week. She was 91 years old! That woman had quite a life, but no one knew who she was until the ’70s because the soldier photographed went through the streets kissing every woman he saw! (Player.) Edith eventually wrote the photographer and when they met, he knew it was her because of her legs! Amazing. Edith will forever be an American icon (not to mention adorn the walls of too many college students’ every year).

2. Jeremy London’s alleged attacker, Brandon Adams, gave his side of the story this week saying that Jeremy and his wife approached him. Adams said Jeremy asked him for Xanax and Oxycontin and Adams agreed in exchange for beer, which doesn’t seem like a good trade but whatev. Then they all went on a joyride and got really effed up. And that’s what happened. Jeremy’s rep defended the “actor” stating that he has successfully passed all of his random drug tests since his arrest in 2004 for marijuana possession. Who’s telling the truth? I don’t know, but is getting more and more wacky every day.

3. Al Gore has been accused of sexually attacking a masseuse back in 2006 at Portland’s Hotel Lucia. Gore hired the woman for a $540 massage and requested she massage his abdominal area. He then began to moan and told her to go further down and began requesting sexual favors. (Editor’s Note: anyone else totally uncomfortable right now?) She also claims he got up and came over to her when she refused and caressed her body, even kissed her. Gross. However, there apparently isn’t enough evidence for a case so it looks like he may be off the hook. But ew anyway.

4. It’d be an understatement to say that Kim Kardashian has a type. She is now rumored to be dating Miles Austin, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver. First Reggie, then Cristiano Rinaldo, now this guy? She’s clearly got a thing for competitive athletes…with competitive athlete bodies. The two are taking it slow, and while I love those crazy Kardashians, girlfriend needs to relax. I know her biological clock is ticking and all, but let’s not get over excited. Plus, we’re all hoping for a Reggie and Kim reunion. Come on, KIM!

5. Twihards get excited: Robert Pattinson is related to the real Dracula, Vlad the Impaler! It turns out, Vlad is the distant uncle of our favorite royal brothers, Prince William and Prince Harry. And Robert is their distant cousin! (Editor’s Note: I wonder how hot Vlad was….) Author of the Twilight series, Stephanie Meyer, is also part of the British royal bloodline, making her a relative too. So cool!

Mini Deets:

1. Thank the heavens! Miley Cyrus has finally taken out those nasty, bird’s nest extensions. Was it to show off her new ear tattoo? Did Liam hate getting his fingers caught in the weave? Who knows? The only thing that matters is they’re gone and she’s looking way better without ‘em.

2. Lady Gaga toppled over in London’s Heathrow airport while donning a sheer leotard thing and ridiculously high platform boot things. Thankfully, she wasn’t hurt. Perhaps this is a loud and clear message that it’s time to try some flats? Or at least heels with actual heels on them?!

3. Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom got engaged. Waaaaah. I can’t tell if I’m jealous because of my crush on Orlando or my girl-crush on Miranda, but either way congrats… I guess.

4. Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise’s new movie, Knight and Day, opened with a very disappointing $3.8 million. So much for a Tom Cruise comeback. Fail.

5. Since we love some World Cup hotties, Interview magazine has provided us with a very dirty slideshow and video of some of the sexiest men in soccer. Mmmmm.

What’s it really like to work at American Apparel?

With Earth Day coming up (cue the Al Gore/whales/rainbows/wind technology montage) I took it upon myself to make a few Green changes in my life. I’ve swapped my regular lightbulbs for CFLs, picked up a few reusable grocery bags and started unplugging my electronics/appliances when I’m not using them. These are teensy little changes to my everyday life that are proven to have a very big impact on the planet. Go me.

I started looking around for more ideas of things I could do for the plant and came across a ton of student groups and entire universities that have dedicated themselves to Going Green. After realizing how awful my own school is when it comes to the planet (we’d be better off shipping students off to burn entire rain forests), I was totally inspired by a few colleges that have taken “Going Green” into their own hands. Seeing what these students can do makes me want to do so much more.

Evergreen State College
Evergreen State College in Washington has one of the most successful sustainable organic farms in the country.  After providing the school with food, the money from the surplus has gone on to pay for most of the farm’s equipment, including greenhouses, a cooler, and a compost shed.  The extra crops are either given to food shelters, sold, or composted.  They also use green energy in the form of wind power.  Badass.

Middlebury
A student group called MiddShift called for the school to be carbon neutral by 2016 and got the Board of Trustees behind them.  But that’s not all!  Students are consistently doing their part around campus, leading energy-saving contests in dorms, advocating for public transportation, and in 2007, they put together the Step it Up 2007 campaign, a national movement to fight climate change.

California State University
In 2009, CSU was one of the winners of the National Wildlife Federation’s Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming contest.  They won by working with SunEdison to bring solar energy to the California State University System with installations that are estimated to “cut 9,485 metric tons of carbon dioxide.”  Whoa there.

Oberlin College
Oberlin was one of the other winners of the Chill Out contest by working not only with students and faculty, but locals as well to “green” their area.  They offset 13% of their greenhouse gas emissions.  They helped save $715,000 in utility bills, and hosted light bulb exchanges (regular bulbs to CFLs) to save energy.  The Lightbulb Brigade, as they called it, cut about 6,400 tons of carbon dioxide over the life of the bulbs.  Yay!

College of the Atlantic
This Maine college is so green it only has one major: Human Ecology.  They describe Human Ecology as the “study of our relationship with our environment.”  Since they are so in touch with their relationship with the environment, they were the first college to pledge carbon neutrality in 2006.  Since they did it, 270 colleges AND COUNTING have pledged to do the same.  Who would have guessed that a tiny college in Maine would be such a trendsetter?

Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio have been trying to warn us for years, but the message has never been more clear:  Global Warming is going to screw us.
