As I continue to try and wrap my head around Sarah Palin, the GOP’s newest Vice Presidential pick (“a woman making strides toward the white house, good!”, “a woman who thinks the government has the right to tell her what her reproductive rights are, bad!”), a few wayward comments flying around the internet and media have gotten me really confused. According to sources, Palin is on record stating that global warming is not man made, and that polar bears aren’t endangered

…What?

“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location.” Palin stated as early as a few weeks ago to a conservative magazine for it’s September issue. “I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”

As a moderate liberal, I can often support Republicans and Independents, as long as I believe their brain is in the right place. The thing is…denying humans have anything to do with global warming, and working to keep polar bears off the endangered list goes beyond politics and veers into …well…complete and utter wrongness.

“The state of Alaska will sue to challenge the recent listing of polar bears as a threatened species, Gov. Sarah Palin announced. She and other Alaska elected officials fear a listing will cripple oil and gas development in prime polar bear habitat off the state’s northern and northwestern coasts.”

“Palin argued that there is not enough evidence to support a listing. Polar bears are well-managed and their population has dramatically increased over 30 years as a result of conservation, she said.”

Alaskan oil is more important than protecting wildlife? Wildlife that has met the unfortunate conclusion time and time and time again of drastic decrease or even full extinction in the next 50 years?

How is McCain and crew (not to mention Palin herself) going to twist her statements into sounding even remotely with the times? You know who else thinks global warming is propaganda, and could give a rat’s ass about the polar bears? My next door neighbor. Who’s 85. And who thinks the birds on the telephone wires are communicating directly with NASA.

Even though I’m proud of the fact that old white dudes are finally taking women seriously, I’ve been wary of Plain from the beginning, and this new information has done nothing to assuage my fears. Palin may be a powerful woman, but she ain’t no Hillary, and she certainly ain’t no environmentalist.

Al Gore III (could they really not think of another name?) was arrested early Wednesday in LA for speeding, and when the cops stopped the son of our recent Vice President, they found a whole slew of no no’s inside his vehicle.

Wow. I’ve never known anyone who was depressed, hyperactive, in pain, and unable to concentrate all at once. Either Gore III has a lot of disorders, or enjoys taking prescription drugs without a prescription and then jumping in a car and driving 100 miles per hour.

Considering the cops were unable to find doctor’s notes for any of the pills, chances are chubby was doing the second thing.

Looks like the Gore name is gonna get a little tarnished.

But only in the illegal sense. The family is still eco-friendly. On the night of his arrest, chubby was driving a blue Toyota Prius.

He’s a singer, he’s a songwriter, he’s dating Jessica Simpson, and he was just sitting back waiting on the world to change (while making his millions singing about it). But now, John Mayer is tired of waiting. He is taking matters into his own hands… by introducing his own theory on how to fix Global Warming.

On his website, Johnny-boy posted a rather lengthy, albeit interesting blog, “(Not) Waiting on the World to Change Entry No. 1,” where he vents about the importance of global warming and how our generation doesn’t care about it simply because it has yet to presented in a way that makes us care. (He claims that while An Inconvenient Truth was a good flick, the title was so “un-fun”).

So John Mayer took it upon himself to propose a new option for helping to reverse the damage that global warming has caused. Enter from stage left: Light Green. The John Mayer theory on global warming preaches that we all need to pick just one thing for now to change in our own lives in order to help reduce global warming effects.

Mayer is kick starting his new theory by producing a line of products that will be cheap alternatives in order to help cut down on plastics. And what’s more is he will bringing his new line to Y-O-U selling them at the merchandise stands on his tour this summer.

I must say, I am impressed and I did not see this coming from him. When “Waiting on the World to Change” first came out I thought it was kind of a sell out song. I mean, what was he doing to help make a change? Absoulutley Nothing! Just waiting…waiting while singing about it on every single TV show, radio station, internet site and the like.

Well good for you John Mayer, you have just made me eat my words. I was wrong about you (and I do not like being wrong). While that may not change the fact that I am still sick of your song (I mean seriously, how overplayed is it?!), I commend your efforts to at least DO something rather than just singing/writing about how others should.

And at least Mayer is realistic about his passion for going green: “To anybody ready to cut me down for this, here’s my full disclosure: I drive a Porsche SUV, I still drink lots of bottled water, and I will be flying private charter several times during my summer tour. However, my bus has been converted to Bio-Diesel, and I’ll be coming up with even more ways to adapt to the Light Green mentality before I set out for the summer.”

Go you, John Mayer. Go you.
