I don’t know about you guys, but I’m tired of talking about Lindsay, Britney, Speidi, Mel, and the rest of those knuckleheads. This week involved a lot of court dates and things with those crazies, but I wanted to focus on the rest of Hollywood instead. Because, contrary to popular belief, there are other things going on, both exciting and sad. So come on in; the water’s fine in Tinsel Town.

1. Comedian Greg Giraldo passed away after a prescription drug overdose put him in a coma. Greg was in a coma for five days until he was taken off life support. Reports say it was not a suicide. A memorial is planned for Friday in New York at the Governor’s Comedy Club. Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.

2. Titanic actress, Gloria Stuart, passed away this week at the age of 100. So sad, this lady was awesome. She was the oldest woman ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for her role of Rose in Titanic. Our thoughts are also with her friends and family.

3. Dr. Ryan, who sadly passed away in an accident on Pacific Coast Highway, is having a plastic surgery scandal. His rival surgeon, Dr. Gary Motykie, is trying to get Dr. Ryan’s former patients! Apparently, some of Dr. Ryan’s staff went over to Dr. Motykie’s office and patients have received emails offering Dr. Motykie’s services. Awkward much? Imagine having some doctor email you saying he’ll do your boob job. Well, people are pissed! Although sharing information is allowed for medical purposes, it’s still kind of weird.

4. Our favorite silver fox, Anderson Cooper, is getting a daytime show! He’s going to be hosting the new show starting next fall. It’s going to focus on all kinds of things ranging from pop culture to social issues. Sounds pretty interesting A-Coop, but honestly I’ll watch anything with your beautiful face on it.

5. Emma Watson vs. Kristen Stewart? Think again. Early reports this week claimed that Kristen is super jealous of Miss Watson because she and Rob are rumored to be filming a movie together. Sources said that Kristen was really jealous because Rob and Emma have a lot in common…like their accents. Well, Emma denied it today saying the reports are “absurd and totally fabricated.” Still, we wish it were true. RPatz needs a classy lady.

Lukewarm Bath

1. Miranda Kerr stomped down the Balenciaga runway five months pregnant and fabulous! Only she can pull that off.

2. Heidi Klum retired from Victoria’s Secret. Sad face. The “Body” retiring? Who’s next?! Brett Favre? Maybe? Bueller?

3. WTF is up with Robert Pattinson’s beard?

4. Glee’s Britney tribute episode brought in over 13 million viewers on Tuesday! Yowza, that’s their highest rated show to date! Could it be the Britney phenomenon, or was it Heather Morris’ amazing performance/abs?

5. Not a sexy photo, but even better: Justin Timberlake rapping with Jimmy Fallon.

The Coolest Commencement Speakers of 2010

If I can speak for most undergrads, we dread graduation day more than the apocalypse itself. It means leaving college and entering the real world, where it won’t be acceptable to beer bong in broad daylight on the roof of a frat house or blow off all your responsibilities to watch an entire season of the Office in bed.

Although the whole “graduating” thing sucks in theory, there’s always a lot of excitement surrounding the commencement speaker (or controversy, if you remember the whole Obama at Notre Dame debacle…). A good speaker can trick you into thinking this isn’t the worst day of your life inspire you to look ahead to the future and all the possibilities that lay ahead (if they’re a huge success, why can’t you be!?). And a bad speaker will allow you a good 45-minute power nap.

So who will be inspired come graduation day and who will be snoozing in their caps and gowns? Here is a list of some serious commencement speaker heavy hitters and the lucky seniors who get to listen to ‘em:

1. University of Michigan – BARACK OBAMA!
Imagine how proud you’d be of your college experience when the freakin’ PRESIDENT of the United States comes to speak at your graduation ceremony!? Everyone knows the man’s got charisma and can work a crowd, and the class of 2010 will definitely remember this for the rest of their lives!

2. NYU – Alec Baldwin
Three words: hot. older. man. Everyone and their mother (literally) will be drooling over him, and if they can pay attention to what he has to say at the same time, I’m sure it will be both hilarious (hello, did you not see him on the Oscars last night) and inspirational. This funny guy is the perfect choice for a commencement speaker. I knew I shoulda gone to NYU…

3. Vassar College – Lisa Kudrow
Could you get a cooler commencement speaker than Phoebe from Friends? I think not. The Emmy winner actually graduated from Vassar in 1985 with a Biology degree and will return to deliver the 2010 commencement address. I’m sure she’ll be delivering inspirational advice in between cracking jokes, and will have the audience doubled over in laughter. I just hope she whips out a guitar and performs a little “Smelly Cat.”

4. Tulane University – Anderson Cooper
Is it me, or does Tulane have all the luck? First Ellen, now Anderson Cooper!? Cooper is one of the most intelligent and fascinating (not to mention strikingly handsome – hellooo, silver fox) people on the news. He actually makes me want to watch it. And his presence at Tulane will certainly hit close to home for a lot of students due to his emotional coverage of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans. I don’t know about you, but this is definitely the man I’d want sending me out into the real world.

5. Harvard – David Souter
For those law geeks out there like me, this is pretty damn cool. Souter served 9 years as a Supreme Court Justice, meaning he had a hand in creating and interpreting laws and precedents that will hold for years to come. I imagine those Harvard students will be both educated and fascinated by what this powerful man has to say.

6. Worcester Polytechnic Institute – Curt Schilling
As the only man to ever pitch World Series games across three decades (his 20′s, 30′s and 40′s) I’d say he’s pretty impressive. He lead the Phillies to the World Series in ’03 and won the World Series with the Diamondbacks in 2001 and the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and 2007. But beyond those insane accomplishments, Schilling is just a great role model, using his fame to help multiple charities, as well as his own cause, Curt’s Pitch for ALS. Even though I admittedly hate the Phillies and the Red Sox, Schilling is someone I’d love to listen to come graduation day.

The CC Weekly Weigh In: We Want More Reality TV!

We all know Reality TV is less than quality. And yeah, Rock of Love (especially that bus!) and For The Love Of Ray J are ruining the world, but it’s hard not to love those celebrity-based reality TV shows. Much like coffee, cardigans and chocolate chip muffins, I’m addicted. Whether it’s seeing how those people live or getting to know them in a different way, there’s just something about those shows that keeps me, and America, coming back for more.

Admit it: no matter how embarrassing it is, you can’t get enough of Tori and Dean or Giuliana and Bill. It’s fun to see how celebrities live, and what they’re like when they’re not all decked up on a Red Carpet repeating lines fed to them by their overbearing publicists.

Remember how surprised you were to see how almost normal the Osbournes were?
Or at how messed up Britney and K-Fed were? (…maybe that one wasn’t so surprising.)

Wouldn’t you like to get inside Oprah’s life? Or Ryan Seacrest’s? Or, OMG, Paula Abdul’s? Talk about TV gold! I’m giddy just thinking about it. (I may even have to upgrade to a bigger DVR if that last one is an option. Mine is already full with all of the Real Housewives….) But enough about my life long dreams; let’s see which reality shows the CollegeCandy writers would like to see.

Ricki – University of Michigan: The Glee cast. They need to show us what it’s like to be behind the scenes

Emmy – Loyola University: Any show with Taylor Lautner would have me as a loyal viewer immediately.

Kim – Stanford: I’d want Jay Z and Beyonce to do a reality show. They’re Hollywood’s most interesting couple because they’re so secretive…. so obviously I want to know everything.

Leah – Ryerson University: Marc Jacobs and his adorable beau. Great fashion, very fun.

Carly – Grinnell: I kind of want to know all about the Disney stars, like the JoBros and Miley. I know parts of their lives are already splashed all over the Internets, but I feel like they have secret, exciting lives that I want to know about.

Lauren – University of Michigan: Chuy from Chelsea Lately. I just can’t get enough of that little nugget.

Nina – Michigan State University: Kanye West should totes get one! It would make even more people hate him. WTF else does he do now that he’s on hiatus, anyway?

Lexi C. – Brown: Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman. He is charming and funny and she is raunchy and offensive, so I would love to see how their personalities work together.

Charlsie – Hollins University: I think I’d like to see blogger Julia Allison finally get her dream-come-true reality show. Maybe then I can figure out what it is she exactly does and should be famous for.

Rachael – University of Miami: I’m not a huge fan of these reality shows, so I’d rather not see anymore created, but if I had to pick someone, I’d want it to be someone who was really working for something important, like Jordanian Queen Rania Al-Abdullah or Michael J Fox, or someone really off-beat and fun, like Tim Burton. THAT could be interesting. . . .

Noa – CU Boulder: Madonna and Jesus Luz. I just need to see how those two work together. Or how long Madge spends chugging protein shakes and bench pressing his hot little bod.

Zahra – Northwestern University: I want Perez Hilton to get a reality show so I can learn how he got famous for no reason and then follow in his footsteps. He freakin’ hangs out with Lady G now! Jealous.

Hannah – Assumption College: I would definitely want to see Brad and Angelina at home with their dozens of children (I honestly don’t know how many children they have, I stopped counting). I just don’t want them to suffer the same fate as Jon and Kate.

Brithny – Duke: Anderson Cooper, apart from AC360. I’ve always wondered what the Silver Fox does on a daily basis, besides being ridiculously good-looking and saving kids.

Brittany – University of St.Thomas: Besides Chase Crawford (even if he life is bor-ing I would be pleased take an extra 30 min. out of my day to stare at his brown locks and purty eyes) I would chose Katy Perry. Someone has to get behind her obsession for Russell “skinny jeans” Brand. I also wouldn’t be opposed to a Perez Hilton and a Lady Gaga combo reality show. It could be like Rob and Big, except way weirder. And gayer. Loves it!

Sarabeth – University of Texas: I want to see Brad and Angelina have their own show on TLC. They have to be more interesting than the Duggars.

Elizabeth – UC Berkeley: Joaquin Phoenix. I’m a little curious about what he’s been up to post-breakdown/rap career.

GQ magazine has unveiled its annual “Men of the Year” list. They have men in every category from Leader of the Year: Obama, to Badass of the Year: Clint Eastwood. While GQ did a comprehensive job of compiling the best men out there (who will all have starring roles in my sexy dreams tonight), it got me to thinking.

What about Best Gay Man of the Year?

It seems like every day I fall in love with yet another unattainable man. There are just so many of them out there showing off their goodness and reminding me that I can’t get a slice. But I love them anyway. So I decided to compile a wishlist of my favorite gays; the best of the best from all corners of the entertainment biz. And no that does not include Dwight from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. (Editor’s Note: Wait, he’s gay?!) That dude may look great in a pair of heels, but he’s got some real ‘tude that I don’t appreciate.

Intelligence:

Anderson Cooper is my personal hero. An anchor on CNN, author and television personality, he is living my dream. He epitomizes journalism eye-candy and for that I admire him. Although he keeps his personal life private, his recent trip to India with his boyfriend Benjamin Maisani left women’s hearts shattered across America.

Fashion Design:

Just looking at Marc Jacobs makes me giggle. As far as fashion designers go, he definitely tops the charts of the cutest gay men in the industry. Honestly, who can pull off a Spongebob tattoo and the red M&M dude on the same arm? But all of his poor body art choices aside, I would die to sport his threads. That man knows how to create a show-stopping look and if there’s one thing I want (besides a chance to bring Marc back to our team) it’s one of his signature quilted bags.

Humor:

Neil Patrick Harris had me at “Hello, my name’s Doogie.” And he may be gay, but I still chuckle at his womanizing antics on How I Met Your Mother. What’s not to love, really? He’s cute, he’s funny, he’s sexy, and maybe the only example of a child actor not gone horribly awry in their later life. He has been dating actor David Burtka since 2004 and admire them for being an openly gay couple in Hollywood.

Style:

If anyone is going to publicly humiliate me on television, throw out my entire wardrobe and mock me to my face, it better be Clinton Kelly. A fashion consultant known for his role on What Not to Wear, Clinton is the only man in my life who could tell me I look fat in these jeans without getting smacked across the face. Partially, because he knows what he’s talking about, and partially because he won’t care if I withhold sex that night.

Adorableness:

Sometimes the only reason I tune in to Oprah is in hopes that Nate Berkus will be giving me design advice. He’s super talented, totally generous, funny and pretty much the sexiest guy alive. If Nate was my interior designer and decorator, I’d have to seriously consider re-doing every single room in my house. He’s just that fun to look at.

Style…again (Come on; gay guys just know their style):

Tim Gunn always has that quizzical eye when he’s looking over designers’ work on Project Runway and he may instill fear in the contestants hearts, but not mine. It’s all love and adoration for Tim Gunn. The man knows what he’s talking about and his presence just commands respect. Plus, there’s something about an older gay man in a suit that just makes me swoon. When he tells you to make it work, you better make it work, or you know you’re screwed.

If only I could find one of these fabulous men wrapped up with a bow under my Christmas tree this December. We would have the best time getting dressed up for New Year’s Eve together.

We’re going to be examining everything from mascots to mess halls to the most obnoxious traditions, all with the intent of determining which schools are ballin’ out of control.

What better rivalry is there to begin with than arguably the oldest and most prestigious in the country? That’s right, its Harvard versus Yale, baby! The two Ivy League institutions have been duking it out since 1852 at the inception of the first Harvard-Yale Regatta. Now, their rivalry extends beyond crew to who gets the top US News & World Report ranking and the largest endowment. Let the hysteria begin!

1. Mascot Matchup

Harvard- The Crimson are…well, a deep red color. Unless you’re hematophobic (fearful of blood), there isn’t much that is particularly intimidating about Crimson. And the “mascot” is technically a charicature of John Harvard, the founder of the institution. Interesting.
Yale- Yalies are ever faithful to their Bulldogs, which has been proudly carried on by seventeen generations of live bulldogs, each named “Handsome Dan.”

Three credits to: Yale–bulldogs are more intimidating and, well…tangible.

2. College Town Cool Points

Harvard- Cambridge, MA is a quaint, affluent suburb of Boston, also known as College Town, USA. With literally dozens of other colleges lining the Charles River, the big-city culture of Boston caters to the student set.
Yale- New Haven, CT is a seaside city with both inner-city and gothic elements. Biggest bonus? MetroNorth railroad connects Yalies directly to New York City in under 90 minutes.

Three Credits to: Harvard–being close to a big city is nice, but being beside one (with ample selection of cute coeds) is nicer.

3. Famous Fixtures in Pop Culture

Harvard- Dropout Mark Zuckerberg invented Facebook when he and his buddies wanted a way to rank who’s hot and who’s not on campus. Need we say more?
Yale- On Gossip Girl and Gilmore Girls (both GG shows, might we add), the main characters are all sweatin’ the fine digs in New Haven.

Three credits to: Yale–you know Blair, Serena, and Rory made the 06511 the new 90210.

4. Ass-kicking Alumni

Harvard– Conan O’Brien, Natalie Portman, Mira Sorvino, Barack Obama, Tommy Lee Jones, Mo Rocca.
Yale- Anderson Cooper, Meryl Streep, Paul Newman, Chris Noth, Sarah Hughes, Jordana Brewster.

Three credits to: Harvard–with Conan and Obama both getting raises this year, the Crimson get the win.

5. Acceptance Rate Agony

Harvard- boasted a measly 7% acceptance rate for its incoming class of 2013.
Yale- accepted just 7.5% of its applicants for the new freshman class.

Three credits to: Harvard–if you’re one of the few to get a thick packet with a Cambridge return address, go get a lotto ticket, you lucky dog!

And the diploma goes to: Harvard! Among the Ivy values of selectivity and prominence, the Crimson succeed.
