1. Because let’s face it, you love Pixar movies. Whether it’s “Toy Story”, “Finding Nemo” or “Monsters Inc.”, everyone has a favorite. Really, admit it. You cried when they found Nemo.
2. Because you’ve always wondered: what WOULD happen if the earth was ravaged by global warming? Wall-E is the last robot on planet earth, hundreds of years after humans have abandoned it. Due to our race’s excess (the landscape is dominated by the corporation “Buy n’ Large”), the environment has been ruined. The earth is covered in garbage, and there are no living beings left besides cockroaches. Kinda makes you think about all the stuff we throw away.
3. Because who knew a robot could be so damn cute? Whether he’s protecting his girl-crush, Eve, from the rain or using a garbage can lid as a hat to dance along to a “Hello Dolly” video tape, I found myself wanting to hug the little guy. Yeah, I said it.
4. Because Eve, the shiny new robot sent to earth to find signs of life, is a great female role model. She’s tough (her arm doubles as some kind of super-powered ray gun) but sweet, and smart as hell. Watch her kick a** and fall for the lovable Wall-E, all while saving them, and the planet, from destruction.
5. Because…anything is better than “The Love Guru”.
You know, usually I totally love me some Japanimation.
I'm not big into cartoons for adults, but you gotta admit that some of the stuff they do is downright crazy. Totally LSD-infused and straight up weird.
And every once in a while, I love me some bubblegum pop music, too. I'm not afraid to say that I turn on some Britney Spears before a night on the town. Electronic voices, heavy breathing, hooks that burn themselves into your brain forever...it's all good.
But apparently, Japanimation and Britney Spears together equals boring confusion.
Brit's new video for "Break the Ice" is totally animated, but besides the one line the lead character (who's supposed to be her, I guess. But I mean...who are we kidding?) lip-syncs, the animation and the song look like some 12-year-old made a YouTube fan video of their favorite cartoon. I mean, the sh*t doesn't add up. Brit's music is anything but edgy -- and the weird, sci-fi spy Japanimation is definitely out there.
I don't know. Take a look. Maybe you think the synergy is perfect.
As for me, I'm still not convinced Ms. Spears will ever have that comeback.
The network has recruited 51 youths to report on the 2008 presidential election using blogs, videos, and animation. Sounds…innovative?
The vehicle for these reports will be Think.mtv.com, which is MTV’s political and issue based website geared toward viewers with an interest in social action.
According to the Associated Press, “The participants in the program will be equipped with laptop computers, cell phones and video cameras and tasked with finding political stories that will particularly resonate with young people. Participants in the “Street Team ’08″ project have profiles on Think.MTV.com. MTV recruited one member from every state as well as Washington D.C.”
This is good news! Mostly. As long as MTV goes the Gideon Yago route and not the Vanessa Minnillo route when it comes to who they’ve recruited to report election news in the coming year.
