Recently we had the opportunity to discuss some hot topics with Zoe, and here’s what she said:

1. Who inspires you most?

My family, my mother and sisters have all inspired me. They have all been supportive and by my side through everything. I learn from them and they are my best friends.

2. If you could give yourself 5 years ago some advice, what would it be?

I would probably say even if things don’t always go your way, still believe in yourself and keep trying to move forward.

3. What did you think you would be doing now when you were 18?

I was a trained dancer for years but knew that I had this desire to continue performing and loved the creative outlet of acting. I always wanted to do something that I could express myself, challenge myself, and do something creative.

4. What advice do you have for aspiring actresses?

I think I would say that if you really want it badly then believe in yourself, be strong, keep learning and don’t be afraid to take chances.

5. What’s the worst advice you’ve ever gotten?

That I should just stay in my comfort zone.

6. What’s your biggest turn off?

I think ignorance is a huge turn off.

7. One night stands? Yay or Nay?

Nay- I am relationship type of person.

8. What was the Avatar audition like?

It was a definitely a process, but so amazing. I met with James Cameron, Jon Landau after they had seen the tape and called me in for a meeting. I had a lot of discussions with James, did some movement work, choreography, etc. and was so beyond excited, thrilled when I received the call I was cast. To be able to work with James Cameron and Jon Landau was a dream come true because they are so talented and so very smart.

10. Are there any roles you would never take?

If a role is compelling, well written with a talented team including director, dp, etc. and I can really grow from the role, I would consider it.

11. You play a lot of strong, beautiful female characters, is that something you’re consciously aware of or more of a reflection of who you are as a woman?

I love to be able to play strong characters that are strong minded, compelling and have a heart. I have always admired actresses like Sigourney Weaver when I saw Alien, as well as Linda Hamilton from Terminator because they were powerful and didn’t need to be the damsels in distress. They are the type of roles that cross gender barriers and are strong, kick ass and heroic if it was either a male or female playing it. I feel lucky the roles I have played have been strong women as I am drawn to that type of role.

12. You were in one of the biggest movies of all time, yet you’re never in the tabloids? How have you managed to avoid that?

I like to keep my personal life personal and when I am not shooting I am a homebody.

13. How has your daily life changed since Avatar?

I think that Avatar may have created more awareness as the film garnered a lot of great publicity- I feel truly fortunate to be associated with Jim and Jon’s masterpiece.

Halloween 2010 is finally here and we’re looking forward to celebrating the only national college holiday that ends with me getting stabbed in the eye by an oversized fairy wing. While we’re excited to see all the awesome creative costumes, we’re also dreading seeing all the cliche and uninspired pop culture costumes. Like c’mon, how many Michael Jacksons did we really need last year? And we’re sure this year will be no different.  That’s why we put together this list of costumes that we’re sure will be at every single college Halloween party.

In fact, we’re so sure that you’ll see all these costumes that we’re throwing a Halloween photo contest. Be the first person to upload a photo of a different person wearing each of these costumes to our Facebook Fan Page and WIN A COLLEGE CANDY BEER PONG TABLE (like the one in this photo). You don’t have to upload them all in a row, but you do have to be the first one to get all ten photos uploaded. (On the slight chance that no one manages to photograph all 10, the person who uploads the most photos, the fastest will win. And in case more than one of you snaps all 10, we’ll put all your names in a witch hat and randomly draw a winner.) 1. The Kanye: How easy and tempting is it going to be for people to put on a pair of brightly colored sunglasses and make a toast to all the douchebags? Either that, or throw on a fuchsia sweater vest and act like a dick. Extra points if he spends all night shoving “Taylor Swift” to the side.

2. The Lady Gaga: I was thinking I might wrap a red cloth over my face or wear a Filet Mignon on my head.  What do you think?  Lady Gaga had some extremely crazy outfits this year and I’m expecting to see at least a few make an appearance on the party circuit. And no, I won’t be surprised when that super skinny girl that you always see at the gym wraps herself in caution tape and carries a telephone all night.

3. The Mel Gibson: We all know Mel Gibson was a huge a-hole this year so don’t be shocked when you see people screaming into a cell phone the entire night with an Australian accent, saying affectionate things like “You effing whore!“

4. The Sue Sylvester: An extremely easy costume (blond wig + track suit + attitude = done) and that’s why we’re expecting to see quite a few Sues dancing in the crowd. Only problem? There’s nothing less fun than an unfunny Sue Sylvester impersonator.

5. Jersey Shore: Drawn-on abs? Spray tans? Ed Hardy t-shirts? Dirty pads hanging from the back of a too-tight dress? You’ll see so many of these on October 31st (and 29th….and 30th) that you’ll wonder if you were some how teleported to Seaside.

6. BP Clean-up Specialist: With some dish washing gloves, a surgical mask, and an oil-covered stuffed animal, this costume will be repeated over and over again throughout the weekend.

7. Anyone from Twilight: The vampire teeth are cheap and a ton of guys will be hoping that they will be enough to convince a drunk girl that they’re just as good looking as Rob Pattinson.

8. ‘The Hangover’ Guys: Because that movie never gets old! Oh wait, it totally does.

9. Lindsay Lohan: Not only is it simple to put together (stringy hair, leggings and a bag of Splenda) but the drunker the costume-wearer gets, the more authentic he/she will look.

10. An Avatar: Because there are enough people out there who will want an excuse to paint themselves blue and run around wearing nothing but a loincloth.

Everyone’s got their own predictions of who’s gonna win (or, more realistically, if anything can beat Avatar), so we thought we’d make things interesting and turn it into a little contest.

You have between now and Sunday, March 7th at 3pm ET to choose who you think will win for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Director. Make your picks (you have to do all 6 or you will not be eligible to win!) and leave them in the comments section below.

We’ll keep a tally as we watch the show (and sip on a delicious Champagne cocktail!) and at the end of the (long, looong) night, we’ll see who got the most correct and send them a $200 gift bag courtesy of Tarte Cosmetics, our absolute favorite makeup line. If there is a tie, we will take all the top scorers, put their names in a hat (or the empty bowl that was once full of Doritos before we got our hands on it) and draw a winner at random.

We know your usual drinking habits tend to favor your wallet instead of your taste buds, but there’s something about The Oscars and Natty Ice that just don’t mix.  It’s a glamorous event so it requires a glamorous (drinking) menu. We found two cocktails worthy of this red carpet, so invite the girls over and wow them with a few of these:

Champagne Hotel California Cocktails
- 1 ounce tequila
- 2 ounces pineapple juice
- 2 ounces mandarin orange juice
- Top it all off with Champagne

Show off your bartending skills:
Mix the tequila and juices with ice. Strain into a serving glass of your choice. Add in Champagne and cheers!

Peppermint Patty Martini
-1 ounce vodka
-1 ounce chocolate liqueur (such as Godiva Chocolate liqueur)
-1 ounce peppermint Schnapps
-Peppermint stick or peppermint and chocolate reception stick

Show off your bartending skills:
Blend the vodka, chocolate liqueur and peppermint schnapps with crushed ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour into a frosted martini glass and garnish with a peppermint candy stick.

Want to throw in a game to make it more exciting? (Lord knows the fun starts to fade after three martinis and a few long-winded acceptance speeches…) Have everyone come early and throw down $10. Then set up a spreadsheet where everyone has to choose the winners in every single category (or even just the biggies). Watch the show, find out who has the most picks right and the winner gets the entire pot!

This Sunday, the 82nd Annual Academy Awards will air at 8 p.m. on ABC! We at CollegeCandy are obviously super excited for all the usual reasons: red carpet fashion, trying to predict the winners (will anything actually beat Avatar?) and of course, an excuse to put on a cocktail dress and drink on a Sunday.

But this year’s Oscar show has even more awesome-ity (yeah, we’re making up new words over here) to be excited about:

1. HOTTIES.
I’ll shamelessly admit that 90% of the reason I watch the Oscars is that hot guys look even hotter in formalwear. This year it seems that a disproportionate amount of hotties are nominated- George Clooney, Colin Firth, Jeremy Renner, Matt Damon…no matter who takes home the awards, I think the night will be a win-win in terms of eye candy.

2. The Best Actress Award
Lots of hype is surrounding this category this year, and rightfully so. Will it be seasoned veteran Meryl Streep for Julie and Julia? Sandra Bullock for playing Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blindside? Or newcomer Gabourey Sidibe for her groundbreaking role in Precious? All of these lovely leading ladies are deserving, so it’ll be a nail-biter to see who takes home the gold.

3. Brangelina
With rumors of a split constantly showing up in the tabloids, it’ll be interesting to see how they appear together on the red carpet. Or if they even show up! Everyone wants to see what Angelina will be wearing (aka how flawless she’ll look), and if Brad is still sporting that fugly facial hair. Most importantly, will they give Ryan Seacrest the interview he missed out on last year?

4. The Hosts
This year, the Oscars will be hosted by funny guy Steve Martin and hot-older-guy Alec Baldwin. Both of whom I have inexplicable crushes on. Since Martin has hosted twice before (and earned an Emmy nom for it!) and Baldwin hasn’t, it’ll be the perfect mix of experience and fresh personality. And honestly, it’s Alec Freakin’ Baldwin; if he brings half of his 30 Rock humor to the stage it will be a very successful show.

5. The Situation?
I know the Academy Awards are a classy event (i.e. it’s not okay to lift up your shirt on the red carpet), but you never know! The Jersey Shore cast has so far been invited to the Grammy’s and New York Fashion Week, both being completely irrelevant to them, so it might not surprise me to see them at the Oscars. I know I’ll be lookin’ out for Snooki’s pouf and a six pack of abs before the show.

One of my favorite ways to spend a cold and rainy day is at the movies, which means I’ve got a lot of movie dates coming up. And that’s fine by me; with all the holiday movies still showing and quite a few Golden Globe nominated films out there, I’ve got plenty to see. However, one of my biggest pet peeves about going to the movies is that I almost always have to go to the bathroom at some point (sometimes more than once – thank you, Diet Coke!), inevitably missing something important.

But now there’s a solution for those of us who love going to the movies but were cursed with small bladders: RunPee.com. 

Just log on to the site before the movie, and it’ll tell you when the best times to go to the bathroom (or, more importantly, run to the snack bar) during the movie without missing too much of the plot.  The site indicates these breaks both by how far they are into the movie and by what’s happening in the movie at that point so you know it’s time to go.  It also tells you approximately how long of a break you have before something important happens, and even what happens while you’re gone (so you don’t have to annoy your friends and everyone around you by asking them what you missed)!

You can even print out the “pee times” to read while you’re picking your seat (close to the exit), or you can download their amazing iPhone app that has a timer that vibrates a few minutes before you should get up and go to the bathroom.  And for those of us without iPhones, RunPee also has mobile-internet designed site (check it out at m.runpee.com). All are more helpful than you’ll ever know.

So the next time you’re at the movies, go ahead and buy that extra-large blue ICEE without worrying about whether you’ll have to go to the bathroom and miss something important. With RunPee, you won’t miss a thing.

Being an adult means making a lot of sacrifices. It’s about saying no to a dinner party because you can’t afford to bring more than stale bread ends. It’s about turning down movie offers because it costs 5 billion dollars to buy a ticket in NYC (and god forbid you want to see IMAX…bye bye, life savings!). And most unfortunately, it’s about buying store brands because you can’t justify shelling out for brand name mustard.

When I was younger (I’m referring to just a year ago) I would throw an absolute hissy fit in the grocery store if my mother even thought about buying non-organic eggs or frozen vegetables. The horror! I logically compared her buying non-free-range chicken to her murdering me in my sleep. But now I’m the one cruising the supermarket with a fistful of coupons and determination not to spend more than necessary. And if that means buying pre-opened food, cans with puncture holes, and expired meats on a discount, so be it. Like I said, it’s all about sacrifices. Like staying in on Saturday night because you have food poisoning from eating year-old salmon.

Penny pinching is one of my least favorite activities. It falls right between having to Google pregnancy symptoms and watching previews for Cougar Town. Yet the longer I’m out of school and the longer I go without finding out I inherited a fortune from a distant relative, the stingier I get. I practically fight over pennies on the street with homeless people. And that’s a new low.

Even for me.

I’m trying really hard to work on striking up a balance for myself. Like if I eat peanut butter crackers for a week for dinner, then I can treat myself by actually going out to dinner one night. But at the same time, I’m not getting out of control. By dinner I mean a side salad, an ice water, and a complimentary mint.

If I could go back in time and tell myself one thing when I was a college senior, it would be “You’re going to be poor so spend your drink money on lottery tickets and improve your pickpocketing skills.” But I can’t go back in time, because I depleted my Time Machine Fund on a ticket to see Avatar in IMAX. So now I’m stuck here in the present time, clipping coupons and eating old meat and wearing “irregular” socks under my faux Uggs.
