TheFrisky Wants YOU To Pick the Hotness

hotness_300.jpgWe love TheFrisky. Their website is bangin’, their blog entries are always entertaining (sex advice, the mind of a man…), and they promote femininsim in a fun, opinionated yet open-minded way. Basically, we’d sit with them at the lunch table.

As you read this, TheFrisky is promoting a new kind of you-pick-’em awards called The Hotness Awards, “dedicated to honoring this year’s 20 hottest people, places, and things – as picked by YOU”. Basically, all you have to do is go HERE, nominate whoever and whatever the hell you want, and they’ll take care of the rest. Definately something to whittle away the hours at that temp job…

I mean, we’re gonna do it. And you know that whole saying about jumping off a bridge just because everyone else is…

Let’s Talk Oscars, People.

halle-berry.jpgOnly a few days until the Academy Awards my dear friends!

I think I happen to be one of the only people who is genuinely excited, maybe a bit more excited than the actors.

Is this strange? I don’t know, if you don’t think sitting on your couch judging “practically perfect people” as they sob, sashay down crimson carpet in their designer best, and fake happiness for the other actors when they steal their award, then….you don’t know what fun is.

When the Oscars are on, I am in for the night. The only thing that would make it better would be if I had my own Wolfgang Puck to dust gold onto little Oscar shaped chocolates.

On a serious note: I am beyond impressed with the actors/actresses nominated this year.

Receiving an Academy Award is one of the highest honors an actor can receive, so when someone is recognized for something they have worked years for, for an art they love, and for a performance that included blood, sweat and tears….witnessing their gratification and that piece of history is pretty emotional.

Though I love the fashion, the speeches are my favorite. Hearing their gratitiude and excitement makes them HUMAN. How can anyone forget Halle Berrys emotional acceptance speech? Or when history was made when Sidney Poitier was the first African American to win Best Actor. Those moments are historical. Read More »

2008 Grammy Nominees are In! (Will Winehouse Even Show Up?)

grammyThe 2008 Grammy nominees were recently announced.

In case you don’t know, winning a Grammy is sort of similar to winning the superlative for “like the most coolest, most awesome, most fabulous person EVER!!!” in your 12th grade yearbook.

The Grammy Award is one of, if not the most prestigious award to win in music. Unlike the American Music Awards or MTV’s Video Music Awards, feathered boas and pasties aren’t exactly appropriate attire. Artists don their Lorraine Schwartz jewels and their vintage haute-couture gowns and put their classiest act forward.

So naturally, when I read that Amy Winehouse is up for six Grammy noms (including both record and album of the year), one must wonder how a girl who is too drugged out to function will manage to:

a) Dress appropriately

b) Give a speech in the event that she wins

c) Actually show up (and not be totally obliterated)

The Grammy’s just got so much more exciting don’t you think??

Kanye is leading the pack with 8 nominations, and others up for awards include Justin Timberlake (What Goes Around Comes Around), Beyonce (Irreplaceable), Rhianna (Umbrella-ella… that song is STILL in my head) and Plain White T’s (Hey There Delilah… and that song STILL annoys me). Read More »
