Last night in New York City the temperature was in the mid-60’s, which means one sad thing: summer is all but over.
But with the change of season comes one very silver lining: it’s time update that wardrobe!
This weekend take some time and hit up Kohl’s. Didn’t think Kohl’s had anything besides pots, pans and clothes for your mom? Think again, missy. After being sent there on an errand for my mother I spent 2 hours shopping their awesome designers (at totally not-designers’ price) and walked out with over 3 bags full of stuff.
No joke.
They carry the new line from Candies, which is way more than (cute) shoes. It also boasts jewelry, apparel and other adorable accessories, not to mention Ms. Britney Spears as their spokeswoman. There is also the Vera Wang line, Daisy Fuentes, and Mudd, which has some pretty great denim in their fall collection.
People compliment me all the time on my Kohl’s finds. It’s definitely worth the trip.

I freakin’ love fall. It is absolutely, 100% the best season for fashion. The knee-high boots? The patterned tights? The cardigans? The Pumpkin Spice Lattes that come out tomorrow? (Ok, so that’s not fashion but I’m counting down the minutes!!) I can barley contain myself as I drool through catalogs and wander through boutiques in a lust-induced haze.
Every year there’s that one item I MUST add to my closet (even if it means living on Ramen for the next month to afford it). Despite the fact that my shopping addiction has my closet filled to the brim, I always justify the need for a new piece by the “school shopping” tradition instilled in me since elementary school. You have to have some new stuff to start the school year, right? Read More »

For many of you, school has already begun or will shortly, which means new additions to the wardrobe are necessary. Woohoo! But you don’t have to spend a lot to update that 2008 fall wardrobe. Old Navy is a great place to get cute basics at super reasonable prices. Just pair these items (many of which are on sale!) with the trendier items/accessories in your closet for a brand new look.
Here are a few pieces I found that’ll be great for the upcoming months… Read More »

August has arrived, and for those of us that are college-bound, that means shopping for dorm items! Everywhere you go right now there are pillows and posters and chairs, all of which would look perfect in that 10X12 box you’re about to call home.
You could go with the typical Yaffa blocks and collapsible hamper (like every other kid on your floor), but that’s just boring. Especially now that there is some pretty awesome new dorm-wear on the market. It’s all unique, adorable and totally functional. And, OMG, I want it all. Here are some of the best things I’ve seen on my daily hunt for the perfect dorm decor (I’ve got a lot of time on my hands…): Read More »

Ah…the smell of new pencils, my Dawson’s Creek trapper keeper and my trusty Paula Abdul lunch box – going back to school in September didn’t get much better than that! Until now of course…
These days, Paula is tired (Straight up now, lemme tell you!) and Dawson has been replaced by the newest and fastest laptops you can find. If you are like me, once you get over the MAC/PC thing, the choices on the PC side become truly dizzying.
Truth is, it comes down to what’s inside (at least that is what Oprah says). But as a computer shopper, I want to pick what’s inside! If I can’t do it with men, then I sure as hell want to have control over my electronics. And while I may not know much about all that stuff inside the computer, I know want small and fast (er…uh…don’t quote me on that) !
Companies like Dell have made their fortune off of allowing customers to choose exactly what they want in their computers. Amazingly, it took a while for it to catch on, but now ALL the best computers out there are fully configurable through online stores. Case in point, and one of our faves, HP. The HP Pavilion dv6z series, which you can build to your own unique specifications, is the bomb.com. AND, even better, it’s on sale for the next 48 hours. Yes, you can get your own sick laptop starting at $579.99.
The option to make something all your own (especially if you can make it all your own on the cheap) doesn’t come along often, so don’t miss this opportunity. Just think of all that money you’ll have left over come the fall….

The mere thought of shopping for college fills me with a great deal of excitement. I picture myself hopping from Bed, Bath and Beyond to Target to Harmon Beauty Supply, loading up a shopping cart with the essentials, some indulgences, and those must-have cutesy items to make my dorm room feel like home. My mother and I are all smiles and giggles as we go from aisle to aisle, looking like we walked straight out of The Donna Reed Show (except with up-to-date outfits, of course).
And then we actually go shopping.
You see, my mother is the Jewish mother. She makes all other Jewish mothers look negligent. Although it is purely out of the kindness of her heart, when we go shopping, she seems to be stocking up for an underground bomb shelter. She goes for the ultra-massive-enormous bulk pack instead of the three or four I’ll actually use during the school year. She does not seem to understand that I’m not going away forever; there will be times during the year when I’ll come home with an empty suitcase, only to fill it up with more supplies for my room. Plus, every store I could possibly need is within walking distance from campus. Read More »

Ah, cheap yet stylish clothes. Does it really get any better than that? Where else besides Forever 21 or H&M can you snag a $5 top on clearance, or track down a pair of really sweet wide-leg pants for less than $30?I suppose Target or Marshall’s might fall into a similar category, but I’ve always considered their clothes to be on a different level. Target is known for stocking basics over trends, and Marshall’s is known for stocking trends… from two or three seasons ago, so we’ll just leave them out of this discussion.
I have this theory: you’re either a Forever 21 person or an H&M person. You are what you are, and you can never switch over—it’s sacrilegious. If you shop at both, let’s face it: your loyalty lies with one, and you’re just cheating on it with the other. Shame on you.
I happen to be an H&M kinda girl. There – I said it. H&M is and always will be better. Is there really a competition? Not even a little bit. Read More »

Shopping for college can be stressful: you don’t know how much room you will have in your dorm, how much is too much, if you’ve brought enough, and if it will match the stuff your roommate has.
Shopping for elementary school supplies was so much more fun – you got to stock up on your favorite Lisa Frank supplies and you begged your mom to buy you a few gel pens because everyone was using them.
This year, instead of making a quick pit-stop at Staples on the way to school and buying a few notebooks and black pens, why not bring some of that grade school excitement back with fun school supplies?
Remember how excited you were to use those gel pens to fill out worksheets in the first couple weeks of school? How cool it was to start a brand new notebook? Here are some funky school supplies that will make you want to head to class, take some notes, and do some hardcore studying. Or at least they will help you make friends by serving as a good conversation starter for the girl sitting next to you.
This stuff puts the “cool” back in school. Yeah…I went there.
Calculator – You will probably need to bring one of those nerdy graphing calculators to your Advanced Stats class, but why not buy one of those enormous & brightly colored calculators for when you just need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide? Math sucks, but bright pink makes everything better. Read More »

A new school season is here, which means more than new books, new cute boys in class and new dorms. Back to school clothes are one of the most essential things on your list of “To-Do’s” before you pack off for another year of learning and debauchery.
So, where to look for the best finds, as well as the best prices? Check out these stores and, if they’re not near you, pop on their websites!
Target – This is the mini-mall of a college girl’s dream. Here you’ll not only find the best bedspreads and towels, snacks and sodas, but you can now also peruse the clothing section, which seems to be coming out with new high-end-like lines every other day. With prices ranging from $9.99 and up, you’re sure to find some cute basics and exotic prints at this fine, serious leap from Wal-Mart.
Marshalls/TJ Maxx - Get ready to dig, dig, dig, but dig with the best of them because if you do, ladies, you can find the best Seven Jeans, Joe’s Jeans and Theory shirts all for a quarter of the price than on the racks at Nordstroms and Bloomies. Who said we can’t have designer trends in college, despite our almost empty pockets? (Why, I was just in Marshalls today on my lunch break – productive, I know – and I snagged a pair of Joe’s Jeans for just $69.99, a quarter the price than the $200 plus pairs at Bloomies!) It’s that time of year again: the first day of school. Students all over the world are preparing for the opportunities that lie ahead. There is so much to learn and so much to see. It is no wonder so many students look forward to this day.
With the first day of classes so near, I began thinking about the way things were in high school around this time.
I remember the big trip to Office Max with my mom every year; we’d hop in her SUV and drive on down to the store, where I would leap from the vehicle while it was still in motion, and run up and down the aisles (Supermarket Sweep style) seeking out the newest pens and folder colors.
I would then return home with my new purchases and proceed to label every folder for every class, color code my notebooks and binders, and put it all in my brand new Eddie Bauer bag for the first day of school.
And I know I’m not alone.
Even more exciting (if possible) than my school supply spree was my first day of school shopping extravaganza. There was nothing more important in life than what you wore on the first day of school; it set the tone for the year and let people know what kind of person you were. Read More »
