CC Beauty Live: Quick & Dirty Lashes

If there’s one thing you should put on before leaving the house, it’s mascara. A few layers can instantly make you look more awake and ready to go. And mascara paired with a fierce lipstick is even better! Seriously though, lashes are a prominent part of your face. They frame your eyeballs, which hopefully is where people are looking. Not everyone has lengthy or full lashes, but that’s okay! Mascara is your friend.

Even though I have really long eyelashes, I still use mascara otherwise my look feels unfinished. It’s just one of those things I gotta have, and it should be in your beauty bag too. But before you go crazy and buy the world’s most expensive tube, watch this video. While I love my Dior mascaras, $24.50 is definitely a splurge especially when I’d rather spend on high end skin care. Drug store mascaras are awesome, so don’t ignore them! Maybelline Falsies and Covergirl Lashblast are two great ones that have my CC Beauty Live Seal of Approval!

CC Beauty Live: Braided Half Updo

As you all know, I love braids. I’ll put them into any hairstyle I can, and this look has been my go-to for summer parties. It’s super easy and looks great whether your hair is straight, curly, wavy…whatever! It’s especially great for those days when you haven’t washed your hair. (Trust me, it’s cool, I haven’t either.)

This looks like it’d be complicated, and my friends are always all “OMG how did you do that?” Seriously it takes three minutes and like five bobby pins #winning. Now I’m passing on my hair guru wisdom to you. There are a couple of things you can do with this look, too. You can leave it half up (or half down if you’re a pessimist). You can pull it into a low ponytail or bun. You can pull it into a high ponytail or bun. You can braid the rest and have a braid orgy.

Really the choice is yours.

CC Beauty Live: Beat The Heat Makeup Edition

Summer is the best time of year. There are virtually no responsibilities (unless you’re stuck with classes or work), it’s always time for a margarita, the beach is calling your name and there are tons of hot, shirtless guys. What’s not to love? Oh yeah, the billion degree heat and the humidity! While you can cool off with the beverage of your choosing, your makeup probably won’t last past noon if you’re out and about.

I’m outside for at least six hours a day working summer lacrosse camps in the sweltering Atlanta heat, so trust me when I say that wearing makeup is not my first priority. But it’s my job to test products and figure things out for you fine viewers. This week I’ve tried a combination of things to make sure what I put on was lasting all day. And if I do say so myself, I did a pretty good job. Really the trick is a good primer and finishing powder. And not caking your makeup on.

Watch below for my tips, and hopefully they’ll prevent you from looking like a hot mess (pun intended).

Oh manicures, we love you. But why do you smudge when I’m reaching for my keys in my bag? Or chip after I clean my dishes in the sink? I think we need to talk.

Manicures are great! Who doesn’t love getting their hands massaged and painted by a stranger? I personally prefer to do my own nails, but that’s because my roommate turned me into a nail polish hoarder (hey Kel!). While I can do my nails in about 10 minutes, I know a lot of people struggle. Especially when painting your dominant hand with your non-dominant one. Fortunately there are products like Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects nail strips that might be able to save you some trouble.

I was sent these strips in zebra stripes and a butterfly print, and I immediately thought of the one finger nail trend that’s been happening lately. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I was pretty skeptical about these things, but it’s been almost a week and they haven’t chipped, smudged, or budged. It does take some practice and patience since the nail shapes aren’t really accurate. You have to take the time to trim them once you put them on, which was kind of a pain. I think I’ll be using them more for fun trends like my one nail, but if you aren’t good with nail polish or you don’t have a lot of time, then you should try this one out!

I want to start off by saying there are tons and tons of ways to care for your skin. What works for one person may not work for someone else. I’ve spent years perfecting my skin care routine and completely personalizing it to me. Find what works specifically for you and you alone. That being said, there are still rules that should be followed no matter what products you’re using.

I cringe when I see someone using a regular bar of soap to clean their face and I don’t want to judge. But, actually rubbing that bar of soap directly on your face is a no-no. I love tequila. Does that mean I should drink it in class? No, same concept.

So I’ve got your absolute basic face washing rules in this vid regarding temperature, time, and motions. It’s super simple, but a lot of people don’t know these rules straight from my dermatologist.

Smokin’ Hot Summer Makeup Tips

The sun? Blazing. Burgers? On the grill. Beer? In the cooler. But your face is melting faster than a snow cone on Pismo Beach.

Your image this summer should scream “hot,” not “overheated.” Follow the simple guidelines below for some sizzling seasonal styling, budget-friendly and doable in less than 5 minutes!

1) Consider eyelash extensions…a great way to add MAJOR GLAM to your peepers without looking overdone. The quick process involves affixing individual pieces of real human hair to your natural eyelashes with eyelash adhesive. They’re good anywhere from 2-6 weeks. No worries about swimming, showering or applying mascara; these lashes last through it all.

2) Who invited the raccoon to the picnic? Avoid too much black eyeliner. Keep it simple, sister, with a smudged line of black or brown eyeliner on your top lid only, as close to the lash line as
possible. Avoid using eyeliner on the bottoms; accent the lower corners only to meld with the top if desired.

3) Leave lips sheer and shimmery! Paints wear off super-quick at the beach, so invest in a lip liner closest to your natural lip color. Fill your lips in first with the liner, THEN top with your favorite gloss. Aloha…luscious lips for the luau!

4) A “must-have” in everyone’s makeup bag: a bronzer. Purchase one with very little or no shimmer to it. Dust with a large face brush on the high points of your forehead, bridge of nose, cheeks and chin. MAKE SURE to dab a touch of your favorite blush on the apples of your cheeks for a sexy super-rosy finish. More potato salad, anyone?

5) If your face is already bronzed or tan, invest in a sheer highlight shadow for your brow bone. This, paired with a touch of eyeliner and two coats of mascara, says effortless yet elegant.

You know those fancy hair trends that have you all, “OMG, I could never pull that off!” Well, I have a secret. You can pull that off. And you can pull that off at home! Shocking, I know. This ombre hair trend has been sweeping the fashion and beauty blogosphere. I mean, it’s everywhere! Rachel Bilson, Drew Barrymore (before she went red), Alexa Chung, Whitney Port, the list is never-ending. Being the oh-so-curious one that I am and having an “I need to cut my hair off” moment post-crisis, I decided to take on this hair challenge at home.

Normally, I’m not nervous changing my hair, but I’ve never used an at home highlighting kit on myself before so I definitely had my stylist on speed dial in case anything went awry. My hair has naturally red undertones, so this could have turned a terrible copper. Fortunately, I didn’t screw it up. (Go me! Woop woop!) I’m hoping that if this worked for me, it will work for you! The key is, as it should be with any at home coloring project, do a test strip! I can’t stress that enough. Now let’s get down to business:

Greasy or oily hair is an absolute pain and if it’s something you struggle with, you are not alone. I have a lot of friends that ask me what they can do to avoid oily hair, and one very tress-stressed reader begged for help as well. This is a topic plaguing a lot of young women (and dudes!), but don’t worry – you can fix it!

Greasy hair is caused by a number of things, and it can even be genetic. In this vid, I’m going over some easy tips to keep your hair less oily!
