A Father’s Day Gift for Every Type of Dad

Every year, right around Father’s Day I always scramble around trying to find a unique, personalized, yet cheap gift idea to give to my pops. I window shop, Google, ask friends – everything! Yet year after year I come across the same old lame gift suggestions. I’d name a few, but I’m afraid some of you reading this may have already succumbed to these terrible, banal ideas… and I wouldn’t want to offend. Nevertheless, I am here to help!

Unlike the rest of the world, apparently, we here at CollegeCandy realize there are many more types of dads than just the golf-loving dad or techie dad that are often the only ones represented in the usual generic gift guides. And how do we know that? Because we see them on TV every week. If you’re looking for the best gift money can buy for the best dad out there…but have no idea what to get him because you spend more time with TV dads than you do with him, perhaps our handy little guide can help you.

Just pick the TV dad most like your real life dad and – bing, bang, boom – you’ve got yourself the perfect Father’s Day gift.

I Love Your Style: Lisa Bonet

When my hair does that it isn't nearly as cool.

Who or what inspires your style? Many of us use Hollywood A-listers (like Diablo Cody) or actresses (like Sanoe Lake) as style inspiration, even though, most of the time, they are being dressed from head to toe by the best stylists.

Which we don’t have.

And sometimes it’s damn near impossible to work their Hollywood looks into our not-so-Hollywood lives. I’ve made it my mission to tap into the mind of a fashion stylist and show you how to take your style inspiration – whatever it may be – and make it more you!

Before the days of dating the super delicious Jason Momoa, or the days before she birthed the naturally stylish daughter Zoe with her then-husband LENNY KRAVITZ (her taste in men is impeccable to say the least), Lisa Bonet was simply Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show. It’s easy to say, “No wonder she has such a unique style when she’s been surrounded by influential people all of her career.”  But when you think about it, Lisa’s weird-cool style was expressed through her character way back in the days when Billy Cosby’s oversized sweaters were surprisingly “in.”

Lisa’s style evolved in the ’80s and ’90s from tomboy, to ’80s hipster to indie earth child.  This half-African American half-Jewish actress has different layers to herself, which she stylishly expresses through her clothes. She somehow maintains a natural and almost organic feel to her fashions, while also mixing in a hint of edgy and a heaping dose of cool.

And I looooove it. Read More »

Shot of the Week: Perfect Jello Shot

j.jpgIt’s officially summer, and this means you’ll be doing two things: going to parties and trying to fit into that swimsuit. Everyone knows Jello is a low fat snack, and vodka has zero carbs. Put those together and what do you have?

The perfect Jello shot.

There’s not a big science to making these squiggly alcoholic snacks, but it is possible to screw them up. A few miserable attempts in college taught me the no-fail ratios, and if you follow them, you’re guaranteed to have the ideal consistency.

Perfect Jello Shots

• 6 oz. flavored Jello (or one large packet)

• 16 oz. boiling water

• 6 oz. cold water

• 10 oz. vodka

Once your 16 oz. of water is boiling, pour the jello packet in and stir until it’s completely dissolved. Shut off the stove and add the cold water and alcohol. Pour the mixture into small paper cups and place the cups in your refrigerator for about two hours.

…And remember, just because they taste like candy, doesn’t mean there’s nothing inside. Jello shots are absorbed slower than liquid alcohol, so don’t overdue it! No one wants to make out with the plastered chick who’s got jello all over her face.
