Dear Hair,

Please: just work with me.

I am trying to help you; I am on your side!

I guess I should start with an apology, or two. I’m sorry I burn you, cut you and tie you up. I’m sorry I color you, curl you, straighten you and harass you in countless other ways. If it’s any consolation I do it out of love.

Now I believe you owe me an apology. For the small random wisps near my bangs, my bangs that won’t grow out, and for the fact that I get roots even though my hair is still at this awkward not-long-but-not-short mom length. Also, for being frizzy and dry no matter how much Moroccan Oil I use. And for how you look in the rain: people confuse me with a wet dog, and it’s all your fault.

Hair, can’t we work this out? I’ve shown you photos of Blake Lively so many times, I just don’t get what you’re not understanding? Just do what her hair is doing. It doesn’t look that hard!

I hope we can work past this as we grow old together, and make one another happy. Well, mostly make me happy; because I’m the one with hands that hold scissors.

I can’t get enough of Blake Lively. In my humble opinion, she is one of the consistently most well-dressed celebs. Her street style is always fresh and eye-catching, and her red carpet style never ceases to dazzle. I love how her style is the perfect marriage of California casual, edgy haute couture and pure elegance. Recently, she was spotted on the set of Gossip Girl rocking a perfect laidback summer fashionista ensemble.

It took me a long time to accept the “maxi” trend. I thought maxi skirts and dresses were frumpy, unflattering and I was completely bewildered by their popularity. But lately, I have come to appreciate their simplicity, and as long as they’re constructed with texture, and not like my grandmother’s living room curtains, I can give maxis a thumbs up. I’m a huge fan of the bright, bold red shade, and has some slight ruching to give it a bit of structure. Paired with a plain white tank and a floral vest, this becomes a flirty, feminine ensemble.

As for the accessories, gold bangles are always appropriate. They’re glam and fun and always spruce up an outfit. And I love Blake’s choice of a chainlink necklace. It adds an unexpected edgy feel. I love the contrast with the overall softness of the rest of the outfit. And, while I hate flip flops, I hate them a tad bit less with maxi skirts (maybe because they’re kind of hidden?) I have heard nothing but great things about Havianias, in terms of comfort and durability. Bright colors and interesting accessories are key to elevating a basic outfit to a stylish one!

I would never know, but I always imagine it’s quite a challenge to look less than perfect in Chanel. However, looking less than perfect in Chanel is better than no Chanel at all. Well, usually.

When I look at this Chanel dress, worn by Blake Lively at the Green Lantern Premiere, I just…don’t get it. The top half is good. I am a little distracted by the fact that there is a huge flower on her nipple, but I can get past that. It’s perfectly fine. And then there’s the weird, chiffon-y skirt bit. I don’t get it. It’s a little bridal, very floral and just seems to be doing way too much at once.

She wore the dress with (surprisingly pretty) silver glittery shoes (akin to ones I wore as a seven year old to the school disco, but probably closer to the price of an apartment) and lots of gold jewellery. She wore layered bangles and two cocktail rings, and a pretty gold hair piece.

One of the big complaints of this outfit is that it doesn’t scream “Superhero Movie Premiere”. It’s a little too serious. It’s a little too “Chanel party on a yacht.” The dress is very elegant but the jewellery is a little clunky. I love her hair and makeup though; her one-shoulder hair is lovely, and her makeup is pretty and simple.

I think this would have been much cuter as a mini dress and would allow Blake to show off those amazing legs of hers. I think it’s the sheer skirt part that puts me off.

We ladies are constantly on the look out for the hottest fashion (at the lowest prices) and the coolest trends. Even the girl who just wears the same pair of jeans every day is looking for a comfortable pair of denim that make her ass look great. And that’s why we’re constantly providing a running commentary on the fashion we see on a daily basis. While some of it is certainly cringe-worthy, there’s a lot of it that is ooo-ahh-I-want-it worthy.  It’s not uncommon to see strangers ask each other where someone bought something.

But what about those things you can’t have and the people you can’t ask?
