What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities (Reese Witherspoon, what what?) are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.]

Olivia Wilde has been up and coming for a few years. To me, she will always be Marissa Cooper’s experiment with lesbianity on The OC, but she’s definitely moved on to slightly more prestigious fare since then (oh you know, only snagging a regular role on House). She’s been a staple on sexiest actresses list for a few years because…well, have you looked her? She smolders. But I hadn’t realized she was a bit of a fashionista in her own right until she stepped out on the Golden Globes red carpet a couple of weeks ago in the this sparkly, dazzling, beautifully constructed number.

Seriously, if fashion were porn, that dress would be the money shot.

Since then, I’ve been paying a bit more attention to Ms. Wilde, and last week, she somehow managed to make a jumpsuit look cute.

My mind is still blown, quite honestly.

But, I’m a realist, and really, 98 percent of us will never actually wear a jumpsuit (rompers are already shameful enough). So this outfit will be based on the essence of Olivia’s look and therefore a lot more wearable.

Deets: Pants, Top, Necklace, Blazer, Shoes.

Wearing a low cut top just to wear a low cut top is cool (I mean, our cleavage won’t look this bomb forever), but I love when they’re also used as a vehicle to showcase beautiful jewelry – in this case, a bold statement necklace.

High waisted trousers have been in for the last couple of fall/winter seasons, and I don’t see them going away in the foreseeable future. They’re super flattering (I mean, there’s a reason every woman over the age of 40 has been rocking them forever), especially when you’ve got a bold colored shirt tucked in. I love the flare that these Urban Outfitters pants have and how they draw attention to these sexy strappy sandals. And, unfortunately, most of us are living in winter hell wonderland, so I threw in a basic blazer. Bam, you look sexy, mature, and glam.

After spending weeks searching Internships.com, writing cover letters and getting a few interviews, you’ve finally managed to land an internship for next semester. Wahoooo! You’re all ready to start – now what the heck do you wear? Dressing for internships can be difficult, especially on the limited college girl wardrobe. You want to look professional, obviously, but you also want to look, well, like you.

How do you create a work wardrobe that doesn’t make you look old and boring?

Don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

When you’re dressing for an internship, keep a few things in mind. One, if you’re going to be doing any errand running or anything that involves standing, how comfortable are your shoes? If you can’t walk in heels, don’t wear them to the office no matter how cute they look. Also, if you’re not sure of the office dress code, it’s always better to overdress for your first few days than to under dress. Dress pants, skirts and dresses are the safest and most desirable options.

Outfit 1: Dress Pants

Pants, Cardigan, Cami, Flats.

Dress pants are one essential for any internship. They’re tailored yet much more comfortable than a skirt and tights. Pair them with a cute cardigan with a cami underneath and you’ll look professional without looking old and dowdy. I added a pair of flats – cute and comfy if your internship has you doing coffee runs. If you want even more personality with this look, add a fun cocktail ring or a stack of bangles. (Editor’s Note: just make sure to avoid anything that will get in the way of your duties; sometimes bracelets are REAL annoying when you’re typing!) Dress pants also work with layers – like white button-up shirts and boyfriend sweaters – meaning you can get through an entire internship with only one or two pairs of pants!

Outfit 2: Skirt

Skirt, Blazer, Cami, Tights, Boots.

The pencil skirt is another classic piece to invest in for your work wardrobe. Tuck in a pretty blouse underneath, add a blazer over top. Knee high boots look great with a pencil skirt and since the skirt is on the longer side (I’d make sure to go no shorter than just above the knee for an office environment!) and the boots come up high, you can go a little funkier with the tights to add some extra fun to the outfit. However, if you opt for pumps with a skirt, I’d stick with basic, opaque tights to keep things professional.

Outfit 3: Dress

Dress, Blazer, Tights, Shoes.

First things first: do a cleavage check. If your cleavage is hanging out, that dress will not work for work. Even with a blazer over top! Once that’s out of the way, you can’t go wrong with a professional looking dress for work. Is there anything easier to style in the morning? Nope! Just pair it with either a blazer or a cardigan, whatever speaks more to your style while also covering up those arms for a more sophisticated and work-appropriate look. Add a pair of tights – either opaque or with a subtle pattern. I added a red wedge here – it’s a nice pop of color and personality, and the wedge is the most comfortable heel option around. If you’d rather go with black, go for it! But give this outfit a bit more personality with a fun statement necklace or a killer pair of earrings.

Outfit 4: Casual Friday

Jeans, Top, Shoes., Bracelet.

Don’t let the name mislead you, ladies! Casual Friday does not equal “jeans and sweatshirt and Uggs Friday.” This is still a work environment, after all. Think of it more as “dressed up jeans Friday.” Or “What I’d wear on a Thursday night out Friday.” Skip the leggings and go for a dark pair of jeans, a nice top, and flats or some cute heels. If you’re feeling extra profesh, toss on that boyfriend blazer over top. (Editor’s Note: Even if the rest of the office is in pajamas, you should not be. Being young, you need to dress somewhat professional to command the respect of your superiors and show them you take this job seriously.)

—
Each week, I’ll show you how to wear 1 item 3 ways – with the stuff you most likely already own! – to get the most out of your purchases.]

One of the most versatile items you can have in your wardrobe is a blazer. When you’re operating with limited closet space or a limited budget, you want to make sure you have items (especially outerwear) that go with pretty much anything, and a cropped blazer is one of the go-to pieces you should own. First off, this item goes with pretty much everything! Jeans, skirts, dresses, leggings, shorts…. all of them can be paired with a cropped blazer. By adding a tailored piece over your wardrobe staples, you’re streamlining your look, instantly making everything look more pulled together and tres chic.

This blazer (or any blazer you’ve got hanging in your closet) can go with you pretty much anywhere: over a dress to cover your arms on a brisk autumn night, over a flirty tank when you’re out on the town with the girls, or over a blouse for a more professional look. Simply throw it on over anything you already own and you’ve got a totally fresh, new look.

Blazer at Night:

Blazer, Jeans, Tank, Boots, Bracelets

This first look is perfect for a night on the town with the girls. A bright colored-ruffled tank and skinny jeans is the perfect base for any night out, whether you’re hitting a house party, going dancing at a club or just out for dinner. Add your favorite ankle boots, some simple accessories, your go-to blazer and you’re all set for the night. If you wanted to dress down this outfit (or end the night without bleeding, blistery feet), a pair of flats would do the trick.

Blazer For the Day:

Blazer, Jeans, Top, Belt, Shoes

Looking to dress up your day look a little? Pair a pretty blouse under your blazer and cinch your waist with a skinny belt the same color as your blazer. Your go-to skinnies and those new oxfords you’ve been rocking are the perfect final touches for this outfit. This look is great for days you need to look more pulled together but can still get away with wearing jeans.

Blazer on the Town:

Blazer, Dress, Boots, Bag

Got a pair of over-the-knee boots in your closet from last year? They’re not just for jeans, ladies. This sparkly dress, black tights and the blazer are an easy way to increase the lifespan of these trendy boots. Wearing them with opaque black tights will make your legs look miles long. A shoulder bag in a rich green will add a little extra color to your look while holding your evening essentials.

Fashion is all about recycling trends (which is why I kick myself when I think about all those leggings I got rid of in the ’90s ). One decade that made a strong reappearance during the Fall/Winter 2010 runway shows was the 1950s. With the overwhelming popularity of Man Med, this really comes as no surprise; I mean, Banana Republic has a line to accompany the show! The re-emergence of the ’50s style means it’s time to break out the full skirt! But rather than looking like you’re an extra on Mad Men or a month early for Halloween, it’s important to know how to wear it right.

With Socks:

Skirt, Top, Sweater, Socks, Booties.

This is the season to focus on socks and the full skirt is the perfect way to do it. Grab a cute pair of knee-high socks (which are both adorable AND functional as they will keep your legs warm on cool, fall days) and start layering. Just grab a button-up shirt and tuck it into the skirt, top it off with your favorite cardigan, then slip on the ankle booties you nabbed last fall. And if you don’t feel like rocking heels, you can swap them out for your knee-high boots and let the socks peek over the top instead.

With Lace:

Skirt, Top, Flats, Bag.

Did you know the full skirt can work for night as well? The key to pulling this off is balancing it out with something a bit more sexy. Like lace or a silky cami. Add some sparkly flats (or even patent pumps) for added pizazz and a bright colored bag and you’re all set to hit the town.

With Class:

Skirt, Top, Blazer, Shoes.

I l-o-v-e mixing and matching different shapes, textures and styles. It just makes things more interesting and, when working with a full skirt, more modern. For this look, I added a bow-tied top under a cropped blazer and oxford-heels for a more scholarly look. But work with what you’ve got. Try a t-shirt under a cardigan with some funky necklace. Or a tank under a blazer and some flat boots. This skirt is incredibly versatile so play around in your closet and you’ll find hundreds of ways to wear it.

One of my favorite places to shop before school is J.Crew. Everything about it is sophisticated, fresh and fabulous. But my only issue with the store is that all that sophistication doesn’t come cheap. Sometimes I’ll walk in, pick up a cute skinny belt for my new pencil skirt (from Marshalls…), look at the price tag and try not to strangle myself with it. $89 dollars for a string of leather???

As I repeat to myself, There are people starving in Africa, there are people starving in Africa, I promptly leave the store empty handed, looking wistfully back at the perfectly put together outfits in the window.

But thanks to store turnover and a whole new crop of Fall fashion pouring into J. Crew stock rooms nationwide, I can finally fulfill my J. Crew dreams. Yes, it’s time for their end-of-summer sale they’ve got some really great goodies to offer, all under $20! I even spotted a leather skinny belt! Let the celebration commence.

I am totally for this all-over-mini-ruffles flirty number. The neon elastic waistband makes a perfect fit for tucking in (with a cute white tee), or going casual. I’m loving the stone blue color for fall as well; with a cute pair of tights this skirt can be transformed into the perfect fall outfit.

Imagine this: sitting in the nearest coffee shop, poring over your laptop, sipping a latte….wearing this. Isn’t that a perfectly painted picture? That’s immediately what I thought of when this beautiful double knit sweater graced me with its presence. It’s an easy pullover for a chilly day, sheer, and super soft (for all of those cute boys hanging all over you in the quad).

This rocker-glam inspired accessory is perfectly balanced with the super feminine attitude of the skinny belt. I love it! It also comes in mustard yellow (i.e. bronzed avocado). Buying Tip: It’s designed to be worn on the natural waist, so get a size bigger if you want to wear it lower.

I am a BIG fan of cardigans for fall. Or always. And I am constantly looking for another one to liven up my layering. This one is the perfect color to brighten up those dreary fall days and cropped to perfection. It will look adorable with flats and a light-weight scarf. And can you see the chic add-on of those blingin’ buttons? Heaven.

While some people think tie-dye should stay at summer camp, JCrew proves that it can look modern and chic. You can wear it (like the picture) tucked into a skirt, or pair it with a pair of dark wash jeans. Beautiful. And is it just me or does it look extremely comfortable?? Hurry before this gem sells out!

This is such a dream come true! This sweet, dressy rendition of a romper can be dressed up with tights or dressed down with a straw fedora. Can you hear my excited squeals?? You could wear this flirty frock with classic kicks or sweet flip flops. It’s so versatile and fresh, it will be hard to pass up (especially since it’s only $19.99!).

In a world full of blazers, this is a perfect casual alternative. This silk cardigan looks extremely comfortable, it’s fashion-forward, has front pockets, and would look so fab with all of those simple knit tops I always end up buying. Hmmm, yummy.

Of course, I couldn’t leave this funky and sweet skirt out of the mix. It’s a triple threat of F: flirty, flattering and fuss-free. It would look adorable with a loose-fitted button up or with a simple tee. And, thanks to the built-in bikini, you can jump in that pile of leaves without worry of showing the world your lady bits.

The following post is courtesy of our gal pals over at CollegeFashion.net. Check them out for all your fashion and beauty needs!

Versatility is everything when it comes to fashion on a budget; when shopping for new clothes in summer, I always look for pieces that will work in hot weather and easily transition into fall.

With the spirit of transitional dressing in mind, I found 3 pieces that are perfect for the warm summer months, but can easily be worn into fall and winter. For each piece, I’ll show you how to wear it “now” (in summer), and “later” (in fall/winter), to help you get some wardrobe bang for your buck.

1. A Floral Dress

Product Information: Dress, Sandals, Long-Sleeve Tee, Tights, Boots

Florals are a perpetual summer trend, but this floral dress is a perfect transition piece because of its black hue. To wear it now, keep your outfit simple by pairing it with a some studded sandals. Once the weather starts to cool, layer a long sleeve tee underneath, throw on some tights and add a pair of tough biker boots for a great fall outfit. If you need a jacket, a motorcycle style is the perfect finishing touch.

I feel like all I’ve been seeing are American flags plastered to every store window and bumper. Which is fine by me. Who’s going to complain about a whole day off from work to down 30 beers and stuff your face with hamburgers? (…And celebrate our country, of course!)

But where July 4th does get my panties in a knot is when it starts bleeding over into fashion. The amount of horrendous American flag pants, t-shirts, scrunchies (yes, scrunchies) and even themed nail art that has passed me by on the street is ridiculous. And although red, white and blue really isn’t a color palate I dress in often, seeing all of these proud Americans struggling to express their love for America in an outfit that is just plain wrong, is just plain wrong. So this year I vowed that I could find something just as appropriate for the day (and the entire season) without sacrificing my dignity or style.

The winner? The Madison Marcus Infinite Striped Jacket. It was included in a July 4th inspired slideshow on Shopbop but when I saw it all concept of a holiday celebration outfit flew out the door. Instead I had flashes of all the places I would walk into looking incredibly chic in my white cotton blazer with the criss-crossed navy stripes.

The jacket is so smart that it’s almost unbelievable. It’s channeling the nautical theme which gives it a crisp, preppy feel, but the detailing is so modern that other nautical inspired wear comes nowhere close to being as wearably chic. The combination of the laid-back rolled cuffs and the sophisticated tuxedo color give the jacket this uniquely casual “oh this thing? I just threw it on” vibe, while the one-sided pocket and asymmetrical stripes and buttons make a huge fashion statement.

At this point, I have forgotten July 4th (sorry USA!) which is the whole reason I went in search of the piece in the first place. Instead I can see myself rocking this all summer, with a crisp white tank and a pair of jean shorts for weekends or casual dinners with friends, and paired with a white pencil skirt and a navy tank for a clean, streamlined work look.

And the jacket doesn’t even have to stay at home when I go out. I can slip it on over a beach cover-up and wear it with a messy bun and flip flops for dinner by the shore and by channeling the tuxedo details and pairing it with a pair of slim-cut black jeans and strappy heels I will be the best dressed girl in any bar or restaurant – simply by slipping on this one jacket.

Gotta love it.

Graduation is fast approaching and soon we college girls will have to swap our flip flops and sweats for pumps and two-piece suits.

Unless you have an amazing job where you can work in your PJs, you’re going to need to update your wardrobe with some real people clothes (that don’t permanently smell of pizza and beer, no matter how many times you wash them).

I, for example, currently own one pair of nice slacks and two dress shirts. And because of all that pizza and beer, they don’t exactly fit as well as they used to. Looks like it’s time to update my closest. But like most college students, I’m not exactly rolling in the dough and can’t exactly afford to buy an entire new wardrobe.

So as per usual when I need some real life advice, I sought out my go-to career hero, president of Hearst Magazine’s Cathie Black. With her work wardrobe guidelines, I’ve compiled a no-nonsense guide to work fashion, complete with tips to help you (and me!) navigate the world of appropriate work wear.

1. Dress for the occasion: Dressing well isn’t about having the most expensive outfit. It’s about knowing what the appropriate clothes are for your place of work, and wearing them with confidence. Obviously you’ll need to dress differently if you’re working in a law firm then if you’re working at a chic indie magazine. But no matter where you work, dress with confidence.

2. Cleavage: Save it for the nightclubs. Nobody at work needs to see your funbags. You can still feel sexy at work, without over-sexing yourself. Pair a form-fitting pencil skirt with a long-sleeve blouse. An outfit like this will still show off your curves, but is still work appropriate!

3. Perfume: Don’t overload potential employers or fellow employees with the Britney Spears Fantasy you bought on sale at Marshall’s. It smells like a baby prostitute. Instead, keep your fragrance simple and fresh or just use a lightly scented lotion.

4. Makeup: Like perfume, keep it fresh and simple. Unless you’re working in an industry that allows a work wardrobe to be a little more creative and free, keep your makeup to neutral colors. Go for the “You think I’m wearing no makeup but I really am” look. Don’t cake on the foundation or try to look like Avril with your eyeliner.

5. Don’t be afraid to use color: Neutrals are great and perfect for a work environment, but don’t be afraid to accessorize your work outfit with a pop of color. Find your power color, aka your color that makes you feel powerful and in charge. For me, it’s coral or an orange-red.

6. Shower. Seriously, shower. You don’t want to show up to work smelling of last night’s festivities or looking like Ke$ha on any given day.

When to splurge: There are certain work pieces every gal needs that should be of good quality, so they can last forever.

A nice blazer: This can be in basic black, grey, or any neutral color. The best part about this piece is you can wear the blazer both day or night. Wear it with slacks and a nice blouse for work, and then switch into a pair of skinny jeans and heels after work and you’re ready for happy hour!

Slacks: At some point or another, you will need to wear a nice pair of slacks. Having a few pairs in neutral colors and the perfect fit can last a long time.

Classic button down: The classic white button down is a work attire staple. Worn with slacks or a pencil skirt, this will make you look refined and professional. But work with skinny jeans and some chunky jewelry, you’ll be ready for some after work festivities.

Black pumps: I don’t know about you, but I’m not the most graceful girl when it comes to heels. I can typically wear a pair for about an hour before I have to take them off. There is no way I could last 9-5 in heels if they weren’t a 100% comfortable fit. So make sure you get a nice pair that is of good quality. Also, Dr. Scholl’s Heel Inserts For Her are a gift from the heavens.

When to save: There are certain closet pieces that you can spend the extra buck on and pieces where you can still shop for at the typical college girl’s favorite store, aka Forever 21.

Basic tees: American Apparel is one of my best friends. Despite its often awkward and super slutty advertisements, they have still mastered the construction of the most comfortable basic t-shirt ever in existence. There is no reason you should be stocking up on C&C basic t-shirts or camisoles for over $50 a pop.

For an even better price but still solid quality, stock up on tons of basic color tees and cardigans at Old Navy.

Work Skirts: H&M will be my homie once I finally get a job. At most of their stores they have a large career-conscious clothes section filled with tons of work skirts, suits, fancy camisoles and blouses. And you don’t have to sacrifice color or high-fashion just because you’re a working woman, as H&M has tons of bright colors in work appropriate cuts and styles.

Everywhere you look this season there are boyfriend blazers. This simple wardrobe staple can elevate any casual outfit and give it that extra touch of class.

Whether worn over a cute spring dress or paired with skinny jeans, the basic boyfriend blazer is a must-have for every woman’s closet. Now don’t get me wrong, I obviously love me a basic black boyfriend blazer (say that five times fast… I dare you), but it can also look pretty boring and plain.

So if you want to add a little punch or color to your traditional blazer, here is an easy and fun way to update your boyfriend blazer with a patterned cuff.

What You’ll Need:

A boyfriend blazer: Use one you already own or pick one up that’s cheap and chic at Marshalls, Target, or TJ-Maxx. To really get into the season, try a white blazer.

Fabric: Pick any color or pattern that strikes your fancy. You can go bold with something bright and solid; channel Lily Pulitzer with some bright florals; or go for a classic Burberry style with a red, black and beige plaid. Really, the opportunities are endless, so find something that’s you. You’ll need about 3 feet of fabric, so just get a yard (as most craft stores cut by the yard). Joann’s Fabric has a huge and fun selection.

Sewing materials: Needle and thread in black or a color that matches your fabric pattern. A sewing machine if you feel so inclined. A seam ripper if you’ll be recycling an old BF blazer.

What You’ll Do:

1. Make your cuff: using your own blazer as a guide, wrap your fabric around the end of your jacket sleeve so you can see how long your cuff will need to be. (Much like how you would tie a string around your wrist to see where the string needs to be cut so it will fit your wrist properly). With a pen, mark the spot where the fabric meets the fabric.

(Note: you’ll obviously need to do all of these steps twice, unless you only want one cuff!)

2. Now with your fabric on a flat surface, add two inches lengthwise to the spot you marked and mark again.

3. Figure out how wide you want your cuff to be. Double that number and mark your fabric. (So if you want a 4-5 inch cuff, you should cut your fabric 8-10 inches wide.) Now cut out your piece of fabric accordingly. You’ll end up with a big rectangular piece of fabric.

4. Fold your piece of fabric in half, length wise (hot-dog style) with the pattern side showing. The wrong sides of your fabric should be pressed together. Sew the edges of the fabric together starting at the left side. Do not sew the sides together. Now you have one long, folded piece of fabric, which is your cuff!

5. If your blazer has a cuff already, use a seam ripper to undo the previous cuff fabric or lining. If not, fold back the end of your blazer sleeve a few inches.

6. Sew what will be the bottom of your cuff (when the sleeve is rolled up) into the inside of the jacket sleeve. You’ll essentially be sewing in a circle around the sleeve. This will be near the edge of the actual sleeve, which will allow you to expose the cuff without losing any sleeve length.

7. When you’ve finished sewing and the two ends meet, fold back the edges a few centimeters so you can create a nice, even seam and sew them together in the back. (You will not see this when the sleeve is rolled up.)

8. Now fold back your cuff on the blazer sleeve. It should look like a finished blazer cuff now. I like the loose cuff look, but if you want a more secure blazer sleeve, sew the top part of the cuff to the actual blazer sleeve..

9. Finally, work that blazer with style and when people ask where your chic new piece is from, proudly tell them you made it!

[While everyone is fabulous in their own right, we thought we should celebrate the campus fashionistas of the world for their continued excellence in not looking like a hot mess for class. So, we started stalking those girls on campus (like Kayla at Lakehead!) to get a few pics and get some tips on their personal style.

And maybe a restraining order or two.

But it’s worth it to highlight fresh, unique wardrobe choices that show personality and the courage to wear what you believe in. You know someone who's got great style? Think the world needs to see what she can do? Send us an email with some photos and she could be the next fashionista celebrated right here.]

College is a wonderful place. It is pretty much the last four years where you can be completely irresponsible and (kind of) get away with it. It is a place where 11 AM is considered early, and where throwing on sweatshirts, pajama pants and Ugg boots (every day) is completely acceptable… and expected. This is why when someone actually has jeans on, I take notice. Which is how I noticed Kerstein, who’s mostly known as KP around campus.

It was time for me to get a “little sister” in my sorority, and I knew the girl I was looking for had to be stylish (it runs in our family.) And along came KP. When she wasn’t wearing sorority letters, she was rocking some seriously edgy outfits, always accompanied by studded belts and funky vests. She even managed to make a backwards baseball cap look chic (when it was raining and she wanted to protect her hair)!

While KP can often be seen sporting super risky looks, I would never say she has one particular style. She can be rocker and edgy, classical and feminine, or comfortable and laid back – all depending on the day. But no matter the heavy watch she has around her wrist or the trendy boots she’s walking in, her best accessory is without a doubt her personality and her confidence, the two most important parts of any fashionista.

Name: Kerstein Perez
Year: Junior
Program: Broadcast journalism

1)Describe your personal style:
Blair Waldorf meets Gwen Stefani. Classy but a little badass, put together… but not too put together.

2) Complete this sentence: I can’t leave my house without…
The real answer is my Blackberry, but since it’s about my style, it would be my silver mirrored aviator sunglasses…no matter what the weather.

3) What is your favorite store to shop at?
Urban Outfitters.

4) Who or what is the biggest influence on your style?
Where I grew up influences my laid-back fashion choices, like ripped jeans and plain white tees. When I went to high school I was sent to a private prep school for girls, which is a different universe from my neighborhood. I like to think this is where my gravitation towards button-ups and blazers began. Though the collision of these worlds really defined my style, my mother’s fashion insight helped as well. She worked for the Gianfranco Ferre store on Madison Avenue (RIP, this venue is now closed) when I was very young. Growing up, playing on the floor of the store exposed me to appreciate clean lines of dress shirts, tailored dresses, and the simplistic elegance of fabrics and colors.

5) What is your favorite trend, past or present?
It’s a tie between the little black dress and a well worn cardigan.

On KP:
Jeans: American Eagle
Boots: Qupid
Shirt: Forever 21
Blazer:H&M
Necklace: Urban Outfitters
Watch: Swatch
