Budget Stylista – Bow-Ties for Everyday

One of the big trends for women this year is the tuxedo. And yes, I said for women. Just think Janelle Monae rocking on stage with her signature big bow-tie. While wearing a tuxedo is over the top for both men and women on a day-to-day basis (and tuxedo shirts are just unacceptable… sorry, dudes) a dressed down interpretation is with the tie-neck blouse.

The tie-neck blouse is strictly for the ladies. While the pay tribute to tuxedo styles, they are much more feminine, which is one of the reasons I love me a big ole bow on the front. It’s not a new trend, meaning if you buy a tie-neck blouse you love now, you could potentially wear it forever. Just ask your mom, I’m betting she rocked this style back in the 70s.

While the position or size of the bow alters the appearance of the tie-neck blouse, I opted to showcase three looks with similar ties (including a faux tie-neck blouse). As these shirts are not super bold on their own, I wanted to show how you can incorporate more than one trend into your looks. Read More »

Senior Files: Creating the Perfect Work Wardrobe

Graduation is fast approaching and soon we college girls will have to swap our flip flops and sweats for pumps and two-piece suits.

Unless you have an amazing job where you can work in your PJs, you’re going to need to update your wardrobe with some real people clothes (that don’t permanently smell of pizza and beer, no matter how many times you wash them).

So as per usual when I need some real life advice, I sought out my go-to career hero, president of Hearst Magazine’s Cathie Black. With her work wardrobe guidelines, I’ve compiled a no-nonsense guide to work fashion, complete with tips to help you (and me!) navigate the world of appropriate work wear. Read More »

Naturally, I found 8 things that you can’t live without and, thanks to the low prices, you really don’t have to: Read More »

8 Under $20: Charlotte Russe

20Dollars.preview

This week we take another trip down cheap & trendy lane to Charlotte Russe.  This is a great place to shop if you’re looking for affordable, well, anything. Hot evening looks, basic day looks, super sexy shoes, way cute accessories and everything in between – Ms. Charlotte has it all.  They also recently launched a new line of more upscale/expensive pieces and denim called People’s Liberation that I am totally feelin’. Just not for this, since none of that shiz is under $20.

But this stuff is, meaning you can load up on the goodies and keep that budget in check. It’s a beautiful thing, I tell you. A beautiful thing. Read More »
