Mary Kate and Ashley? Yes, I’m familiar. Elizabeth Olsen? It seems as if EVERYONE is talking about her lately. But what about Trent Olsen? The older brother of the sisters remains a mystery. Was he sold off by the twins for only 50 cents?  We thought so, but apparently he ended up being not for sale.

So where is Trent Olsen? Who is Trent Olsen? Nobody really knows.

If you type “Trent Olsen” into Google, you get an almost empty IMDB page and the link to Mary Kate and Ashley’s Wikipedia. Not much to show for his 27 years of life. In 2006, Mr. Olsen graduated from USC, according to IMDB. What was his major? We can only speculate. It may have been computer science, or it may have been useless family members. All we really know is that this might be him. Not much to go on.

Maybe there will be a You’re Invited to Mary-Kate and Ashley’s Sleepover Party reunion and we will learn a little more about what he’s been up to. But until then, we will have to be content with the Olsen girls. If Trent wants more attention, he should start dressing boho-homeless. That’s why the twins are famous in the first place, right?

Whitney Port is definitely my favorite blonde fashionista to come from The Hills (sorry, LC!) I’ve always admired her mix of boho, preppy, vintage, and contemporary pieces. She’s trendy, but still very much true to herself. Her looks are always fresh, never seem too contrived, and could easily be worn by an ordinary college girl.

Loves it.

Blazer, Pants, Ruffle Tank, Sandals, Bag, Necklace

Blazers have definitely remained a staple item in spring collections, but now they’re a little less structured and a lot more bright, including more colors and patterns. Striped blazers are casual, but still bold enough to add a little extra visual interest, especially when combined with a ruffled tank, which always looks cute when peeking out from underneath.

Now, I must confess something – I had never seen ruched pants before seeing this photo. I don’t think I’d ever even heard of them. I feel like my fashion blogger card should be revoked. I mean, ruche is everyone else these days – shirts, dresses, purses, shoes…why not pants? While Whitney makes these look amazing, I’m sure they could easily be hot mess central. These work because they’re a basic black, so the ruching isn’t too overpowering, but still more interesting than a pair of skinny jeans.

Silver sandals are a great addition, as they’re shiny, kind of glam, but still perfect for everyday wear. And a black saddle bag is great for carrying around your entire life without being too bulky. Perfect.

Whitney may not be the best fashion designer, but her personal style is always inspiring.

Though grossly under-rated, hair accessories might be one of the best ways to spice up an outfit and add a special flair. Cheaper than a hot pair of shoes and more practical than a bunch of bangles, headbands and hairpins do double duty: they accessorize and pull that hair out of your face.

Whether you’re looking for something rocker chic, vintage, boho or classic, there are adorable hair pieces out there at super cheap prices. So instead of spending $30 on a shirt you will really only wear once, why not spend $20 and load up on some hair accessories that will enhance the stuff you’ve already got hanging in that closet?

And, let me just say, they are the best accessory when you know you can’t wear your hair down (because you’re going to a sweaty frat party), but don’t want to look like you just came from the gym.

This tunis is not only flattering to any shape, but it’s versatile to boot. It will work perfectly with skinny jeans and knee high flat boots for class, or you can pair it with black pants and pumps for that internship you’ve got lined up for the summer.

It might seem silly to buy a bikini in the middle of winter, but that’s when they’re cheapest and if you’re gonna need one eventually anyway, now’s the time to buy. I love the fun geometric print on this one (how good will that look with a tan!?), not to mention the sexy ties on the bottoms.

Hair flair can transform an entire outfit and conceal your unwashed hair on days when you just don’t have time to shower (i.e. after a particularly long Tiki Tuesday). More importantly, unlike those expensive skinny jeans you picked up at the Nordstrom half-yearly sale, hair flair will always fit regardless of those holiday pounds, the freshmen fifteen, or the beer belly you’ve been sporting since football season (curse you keg stands and beer pong).

Well, if you want the same accessories as the Upper East Siders but don’t have the same cash monay, don’t worry.  Here is a thrifty way to get the fabulous look without paying the big bucks. And if this particular style isn’t for you, something is wrong with you we’ve got another awesome DIY hair flair project you can do instead.

What You’ll Need:

Stretchy headbands/headwraps: You probably have one of these lying around, but if not, these are super cheap and you can pick them up at drug stores like CVS, Long’s, Duane Read or at any beauty store. My favorite brand to use is Scunci No Slip-Hair Grips because they come in packs of 4, are comfortable, and easy to decorate. Use a black headwrap to keep it classy or a bolder color to add some extra pop.

Fabric: A foot or two of any type of cloth fabric in any color/design you want! Most craft stores sell fabric squares meant for quilting, which are perfect for creating your hair flair, as your fabric needs to be cut in a square shape before you begin. Bonus: Many craft stores (Michael’s or JoAnn’s) have tons of leftover fabric scraps that you can get for super cheap. Just ask one of those ladies with the scissors!

The fabric color/design you choose can make your headwrap traditional and classy (think colors like Ivory, Champagne, Black, Grey, Red, etc), or have a little more funk (think designs like zebra, polka dots, stripes, or neon!).

Beads, Rhinestones, Buttons, MORE FLAIR!: These are optional materials, but will add that extra spunk to your homemade headband.

Hot Glue Gun/Glue: Every crafter’s best friend and sometimes lover. You’ll need this for a few steps throughout the DIY process.

What You’ll Do:

1. Cut fabric into a 6×6 inch square piece. Cut another 4×4 inch square piece. (Really, you can cut these two pieces in any size square you want [depending how big and bold you want your headwrap to be]. Just make sure one piece is bigger than the other.)

2. Lay the fabric face-down (so the design/color side of your fabric isn’t showing) and grab it in the middle. Using your other hand, twist the fabric around the finger holding the center. The twisting will swirl the fabric to create a ruche-like effect. Hold finger in place, then fold and hot glue the four corners of the fabric to the center. Repeat with the smaller piece of fabric. You should now have two bubbly looking pieces of fabric!

3. Add a small button, rhinestone, or bead in the center of the fabric if you want to add some extra glitz.

4. Now, hot glue the two ruched fabric bubbles to the headwrap, side by side. Let dry. Once the pieces are glued to the headband, take some leftover fabric, cut out a small strip and glue it behind the fabric pieces (inside the headband). This will make your headwrap look more polished and be more comfortable for you to wear!

5. Wear your new hair flair! Wear like a traditional headband or pull it low across your forehead for a more bohemian look.

6. Take all compliments modestly, direct all admirers to CollegeCandy, and tell them, yes, you are a fashion visionary and trendsetter.

You can find maxi dresses in all sorts of price ranges, but if you’re looking for less expensive versions, your best bets are Target , Wet Seal ,Charlotte Russe or Forever 21.  I love the colors and style of this dress, and the halter style works well for those of us who are on the bustier side (I would also recommend wearing a tank or a tube top underneath if you’re not wanting to Leave it to Cleavage).

For The Day:
Add some bangles, cute earrings, and a pair of turquoise sandals and you’re summery and stylish.

For The Evening:
The day is done and it’s time to meet your friends (or perhaps your summer fling) for happy hour and some bar hopping. No need to worry; just reach into your oversized bag (cuz girls, I know you all have at least one gigantor purse) for a change of shoes and earrings and you’ll be bedazzled in no time. Bonus: this look is super hot and super comfy. Yes, it’s possible to be both!

A pair of metallic espadrilles is not only sexy, but will look cute with any number of summer looks (shorts, boyfriend jeans, sundresses and skirts). And getting all that sexy height without the pain of a stiletto heel, well, that just sounds like a slice of heaven.

Swap out those casual wooden earrings for a fancier pair of chandeliers. The added sparkle will take that casual dress up a few notches and make it much more night-appropriate.

And if you wanna go super sexified and you were rockin’ out a tank/tube top underneath the dress, slip it off and show a little cleavage. Now get out there and enjoy the night!

So it’s a new season and that means new trends on all fronts, including one of my personal faves: handbags!

This season keep your eyes open for some of the usual suspects (oversized bags, clutches and pops of color), some rollover from the fall (fringe) and some new looks (well, not necessarily new, but trends we haven’t seen in a while).

Here are some of the biggest bag trends of spring/summer 2009…

Workin’ on the Chain Gang:
Chain bags are a classic look that are making a huge comeback this season.  From Chanel’s classic chain bag to Prada’s modernized chunky plastic chains, chain bags are all over the place this season.  But, for all you recessionistas out there, it’s not necessary to spend exorbitant amounts of cash to have one of these babies.  There are plenty of reasonably priced options out there if you look in the right places: there are great looks (inspired by designer bags) at  fashionjunkee.com and, as always, Target never fails to offer cute and trendy looks at extremely low prices.

Simply Black & White:
We’re going back to basics this season with simple black & white and it never looked so good.  You can go with any number of styles and prints, but two tone is a fun and simple way to add spunk to your look. You can also brighten it up a bit by having a black & white bag that has a pop of color thrown in.

The Bold and the Beautiful:
As we saw in clothes and shoes this season, brights are all the rage, and bold, bright colors in bags are a great way to add some zazoom to any ensemble. But you don’t want to over-do it; these bags work best when paired with a neutral outfit, not one that is chock full of equally bold and bright elements. Yellows, oranges and blues are best when it comes to bold color palettes for this spring/summer.

They Might Be Giants:
As has been the case for several seasons, oversized bags are super popular.  If you want a great way to carry more than just your lipstick, ID and credit cards when you go out at night, try an oversized clutch.

Shagadelic:
Following in fall’s footsteps, the popular fringe bag is still around. Being that this is a very obvious statement, remember to choose neutrals as they’re bound to last longer and be more versatile.

Dream Weaver:
Spring and summer have a light-hearted and breezy feel and what better way to get that feeling than by carrying a woven bag.  Straw always gives a beachy feel to things, but you can also get a spring look with woven leather in a bright color.

No matter which trend you choose to go with this spring or summer, don’t forget to have fun and keep it LIGHT!

Jovovich-Hawk is known for a vintage-looking femininity, perfect for pulling off a boho look.

Target’s GO collection is perfect for those of us who love clothes, but hate spending money on them. Cheap clothes don’t have to be poorly designed, and Target’s lines are a perfect blend of high fashion and ready-to-wear style.

I was out of the country for a while, and sadly missed out on many of Target’s great lines (although I was lucky enough to snag a few pieces from the Kate Moss for Tophshop collection), but as soon as I got back I went on a spree, first picking up an adorable grey ruffled dress designed by Alice Temperley, and later a cardigan with heart-shaped buttons designed by Erin Fetherston.

Both items have stood up well to repeated wearing and launderings, both have earned me great compliments, and both cost less than $50!

So mark your calendars, girls, and get thee to Target on March 2nd. I’ll see you there!
