So, apparently Bristol Palin is rolling in the dough from participating in the Candie’s Foundation’s abstinence campaign . If your saying “whaat?!” right now then we are in total agreement. How can Little Miss Get Pregnant at 18 While Your mom is Running for VP be making so much money (click here to see just how much!) promoting something she knows nothing about. And also, sidenote, why are people considering BP a celebrity?

Anyways, it got us thinking…if Bristol Palin can make this much money for promoting abstinence, then who else should be making mad dough for being a complete hypocrite…

Let’s talk about politics, ladies.

Or maybe something slightly more relevant to us: politicians and their children.

The daughters of today’s politicians always seem to have their own agendas; messages they want to spread, campaigns they want to share, insider accounts of the campaign trail. It’s like because we’ve elected their parents (or rather because their parents want us to elect them) it automatically gives them the right to speak out on a whole bunch of issues they may or may not know anything about.

And I’m not sure exactly where I stand on this whole thing. Because while I know I could really do without ever hearing about Megan McCain’s “blogette” or reading Dirty, Sexy, Politics, some politicians’ daughter might actually be worth listening to.

Well…not this one.

Apparently, Bristol Palin wants to travel from college to college and preach abstinence. But college students, just don’t want to listen to her. Originally, Bristol was supposed to head on over to Washington University to be the keynote speaker during their “Sex Week.” But in the end the students turned her down. They felt that $15,000+ was too much to spend on a 20-year-old politician’s daughter with no expertise in the field. (One who obviously needs to reconsider her own position on abstinence since it didn’t work out so well for her the first time.) So now she’s trying to go to UC-Irvine to spread her message (and not her legs). But they’re not exactly thrilled with the idea either. University students have spoken out against the idea of Bristol Palin coming to speak at their school.

Perhaps they’d be more happy with Barbara Bush?

No that was not a typo. The Republican’s daughter just released a video in support of gay marriage, declaring “I am a New Yorker for marriage equality.” And that’s one message we might actually want to hear. Because although it doesn’t actually change anything, it’s still a step in the right direction. If a Republican’s daughter can openly and publicly support gay marriage then maybe marriage equality is on its way to being a non-issue? I know its still a long way off, the idea of Republicans and Democrats alike embracing marriage equality as a given as opposed to a political issue, but it’s  still a start.

And with that said, I think it’s a good thing that these politicians’ children are speaking out. They’re young adults with ideas and points of view that are capable of relating to you and me. And although some messages make more sense than others, these children should all embrace this opportunity they’ve been given. Their parents lead very public lives and because of that they have a chance to make their opinions known.

And then we can form ours.

While I’m still trying to wrap my head around what this Great American Novel could possibly be about (Amazon is telling me something about sisterhood, feuding…wait, so it’s like a written account of their shows?), I think it’s important other celebrities not get the same idea.  Just because you have a television show or frequently appear in the pages of Us Weekly, don’t go thinkin’ you have thoughts that need sharin’.  I’ll tell you right now, I don’t care.

Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrity-written books.  Chelsea Handler?  Giuliana Rancic?  Jenny McCarthy?  Yes, please!  They’re funny, smart women with something interesting to say.  It’s when morons put pen to paper I get a little miffed.  Like if some of these people decided to become the next expert on dating, living, or telling all…

What were they smoking when they came up with this crackpot commercial for abstinence? No seriously. Does anyone really think that The Situation is a good spokesperson for anything, let alone anything involving smart sex decisions? We won’t even get into the fact that Bristol “I don’t have sex…except for that one time when I got pregnant” Palin has become a spokeswoman for abstinence.

But I will give credit where credit is due, and it’s clear from this commercial that they’re both excellent actors. (In this context excellent means horrible, unconvincing, poorly trained, stick to regional theater).

P.S Candies: you really couldn’t find ANYONE else to do this? Maybe try Craigslist next time? Or Google “celebrities who don’t have kids.” Just a suggestion.

As Hollywood stirs the pot of gossip-shaped noodles, I’m eating spoonful after spoonful. Hollywood always gives us the generous opportunity to lift all of our own emotional flounders and replace them with the train-wrecks and idiots overpopulating the City of Angels.  This week, however, was rather chill for (most) celebs.  Reese Witherspoon went shopping wearing floral and drank iced tea with her daughter, Sienna and Jude vacationed in Spain, Vanessa Hudgens was spotted shopping in a floppy hat and Blake Lively applied lip gloss in public (!).

Awww, the bittersweet summer in Hollyweird slowly coming to a blissful end.

Don’t worry though. A lull in August isn’t completely a bust.  Here is what’s goin down in celeb town (sorry, it was too tempting).

Was it one of those new plastic Michelob Lights? Did it bounce right off his flawless face? I kid Leo, I kid. The bottle was broken and he needed stitches for the incident!  And Wilson’s bail has been raised from $60,000 to $150,000 because of concern about her willingness to get back to court.  I’m just wondering what he could have done to that 40-year-old women to receive wrath like that? I mean come on, he gave us Jack Dawson. Where’s the abuse-motive in that, Miss Wilson??

Hilary Duffster Pushes Wedding With Slice-of-Hockey-Heaven Mike Comrie to Next Week! Like woah, the wedding bells in Duff’s ears must be giving her a migraine because a new report says they will be prancing down the aisle August 14th (as in next week).  They also recently purchased their freak-nest right next door to homegirls Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani. Wait, is Duff hearing wedding bells or babies crying?

Bristol Announces She Got Played by Levi and They Break It Off. Again. A week after an engagement announcement. Relationship expert announced the couple was “very immature.” Hey, I’m a relationship expert too and I say, “Levi is a fame whore!”

Rosie O’ Donnell Get’s Her Own Show on Oprah TV. Oprah claims it will be “playful and energetic.”  No name of the show or debut date has been announced yet.  But Rosie says the show will be a “single topic, hour long show about life, love and laughter.” Sweet, Rosie O’ LiveLoveLaugh. Very Sweet.

Rihanna Poses With Young Fans Dressed As Clowns. Rihanna left her hotel in Toronto, Canada to pose with fans dressed up as clowns. This is weird, Rihanna, and I don’t get it, but kudos to you for not being afraid!  In other news, watch her new video featuring a red wig, Eminem and Megan Fox. That’s a lot.

Emma Watson Chops Off All Her Tresses; Calls It Liberating. Although I feel like chopping off my hair would end up like one of those Sour Patch Kid commercials, Watson had a different outlook.  She claims chopping her hair off was the most liberating thing she’d ever done.  And kudos for that, Emma Watson. (Speaking of which, Kudos are so good. I’m totally jonesing for one now.)  Lindsay Lohan thinks wearing her leggings line in jail is liberating, so keep up the good work on being a normal teenager.

Justin Bieber Visits Band Camp. Hold on to your kicks, kids. Justin Timberlake didn’t visit my art camp when I was in middle school, dag nabbit! JBeebs, however, has other plans and visited the Seminole High School in Florida as part of the Best Buy and Grammy Foundation for music programs. Cute and positively community driven. Wasilla, Alaska won’t be seeing any casting call flyers hanging around Main St. any time soon.  The faux-engagement of town darlings (or terrors), Bristol and Levi, failed to get them a reality show, so the two have called it off…for now.  While they may not be worthy stars in their own right (contrary to what Levi might think), I think if Bristi (Levstol? Brevi?  What was their nickname, anyway?) were open to appearing on an already existing show, they might have a shot at stardom.

Who gets to keep the engagement ring?  What are the terms of visitation rights with Tripp?  These are issues that need to be hammered out, preferably on camera!  Divorce Court could make an exception for these almost-divorcees, but I think we need to call in the biggest, baddest judge of them all: Judy.  Talk about someone who wouldn’t take any crap.

Bristol would be excellent on season three, no?  Levi could make infrequent cameos when he wasn’t posing again for Playboy, but the spotlight would be on Mama B and her baby Tripp.  We would follow them around Alaska as she taught her son the ways of the forest and shopped for toddler Benadryl at the local Target.  You know she slips him a dropper-full every so often under the pretense that he’s “a little fussy, must be teething.”  Hey, whatever gets that kid to sleep at night (which has to be hard considering who is parents are).

Levi totally wants to be the best dad he can be…so long as his recovery from douchey-ness is fully publicized and is followed by exclusive photo shoots and million-dollar interviews.  Could host Jordan Murphy help whip Levi into father of the year?  Tune in and find out.

Alaska Shore: I Can See Russia From My House
You know you’d watch this.  It wouldn’t be hard to find the most moose-ed out, plaid wearing, gun toting folks in town to star in a Wasilla-centric reality show.  I, for one, am dying to find out about the culture that spit out the glorious couple that is (was) Bristol and Levi.  How important are snowmobiles to their daily life?  Do they ride them to the bar?  Can you get a ticket for drunk snowmobiling?  Is it commonplace to bring babies to the bar?  (I ask because I feel Tripp would be adorable sitting on the bar top opening beer bottles with his chubby little hands.)

It’s such an untapped market, these people of the far-north.  Levi’s druggie mom would obvi have to be on the show.  And First Dude, Todd.  Sarah’s American flag bikini would make an appearance regularly.  Throw in some local drunks and a few moose and this thing would be the white trash version of an Abercrombie photo shoot.

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston, who shared news of their engagement yesterday, filmed a video for Us Weekly speaking about the exciting tidings. In the clip, Bristol remembers the day Levi, 20, proposed to her:

“I came home from work one day and there were tons of flowers all over my room. There were rose petals in the shape of a heart on my bed, with a box. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” Palin, 19, says.
