I am a total dog lover. I know I’m about to make a lot of cat owners angry, but I think that dogs make the best pets. (I’m also allergic to cats, so maybe I’m unfairly biased.) Dogs are sweet, fun and loyal. To your dog, you’re the center of the universe, which means they’re the best friends you could possibly ask for. And celebrities agree! We saw it with Prince William and Kate Middleton, Britney Spears and Jason Trawick, Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman…now Drew Barrymore is jumping on the bandwagon and getting engaged to her non-famous boyfriend, Will Kopelman. The two reportedly got together right after Drew split with nerdy-cute BF Justin Long and have been dating for the past year. It all begs the question — could normal be the new normal?

While the future Mr. Drew Barrymore isn’t entirely common — he’s the son of the former head of Chanel, after all — his job as an art consultant puts him far from A-List celeb status. Looking at the couple kissing on vacation, hanging out in LA and just generally enjoying each other’s company, it all looks so…normal. Drew’s been married twice before, so I do wonder if she’d take the plunge a third time unless she was really, really sure this relationship is going to work out for the long haul. Perhaps the secret to successful relationships in Hollywood is to find someone who isn’t in the spotlight along with you.

In summation — Channing Tatum, if you want to test out this theory, I’m available. Just sayin’.

Our favorite pop princess, Britney Spears, is engaged! Her long-time boyfriend, Jason Trawick popped the question last night, and I am more than thrilled for Ms. Spears. But now I can’t stop thinking about what her wedding will be like! Will Justin run in at the last minute and object? Will Cheetos be served at the reception? There is so much to wonder! Vocal Fry.

If it’s not the latest and greatest snacking invention released by McDonald’s then I’m not really sure what to make of this trend.

But apparently “vocal fry” (aka ‘creaky voice’)  “refers to the low, guttural vibrations that sometimes occur in speech, often appearing at the end of sentences” and is apparently taking our favorite celebrities by the horns. Know how B. Spears gets all dark and dirty when she moans “yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah…” at the beginning of her hit ‘Oops.. I Did It Again”? Like the hit maker and one of the original pioneers of pop that she is, Brit-Brit might be at the forefront of this creaky trend.

Which means that all the time I spent last summer locked in my room staring at my mirror and cupping my vocal cords trying to make my voice sound raspier was for nothing. Ugh. 

Stars like Zooey Deschanel and Kim Kardashian are catching on too, ditching their ditzy, soprano-esque, damsel-in-permanent-distress tones for a deeper, more masculine tone. And researchers suspect that it is an increasing trend found among women our age and older. For whatever reason, linguists even suggest that women partaking in this latest fad are either hoping to establish themselves in front of male counterparts or just sound more sultry and sexy.

So we’re wondering what all the rest of us ladies think about the “vocal fry” trend: are we actually making a conscious effort to drop our speech? For those of us that are ditching your natural pitch, why are you doing it?
