The best thing about New York City in the middle of a very cold and dreary February is, obviously, Fashion Week. And it also happens to be the best thing about being an unpaid intern. This year I got the opportunity to cover a few fashion shows and presentations for my internship — and believe me when I say I couldn’t have been more excited to take on this particular task.
There is nothing quite like NY Fashion Week — the tents are full of a mix of sleep-deprived reporters, stylish socialites, celebrities surrounded by onlookers, and cranky photographers hauling around a ton of equipment. It’s pretty much the most glamorous trainwreck you’ll ever see and little ol’ intern me couldn’t look away. That is, until the doors opened and it was time for the main event. Let me tell you, even if you’re not into fashion (which I totally am), there is nothing like the energy you feel watching a fashion show, from the beginning when you’re waiting around for it start (always expect them to be at LEAST a half-hour late), until the end when you’re giving a standing ovation to a truly beautiful collection. Something Old: Texas Chainsaw Massacre – The Next Generation (1995)
Something New: Prom Night (2008)
The Connection: Both are remakes of classic horror films.

Believable, well-written, well-acted, fundamentally disturbing, the Good Horror Movie is rarely achieved, but when it is it can be one of the most memorable viewing experiences an audience member will ever have.
The second category is the Frickin’ Awesome Horror Movie. The Frickin’ Awesome Horror movie is, in fact, so terrible that it is totally amazing. Sometimes this is intentional (see: Cabin Fever), sometimes accidental (see: Plan 9 From Outer Space), but it’s a delight either way, and makes for excellent group viewings. The final category of horror films is the plain old Generic Crap Horror Movie. A vast majority of horror films fall in to this category and, sadly, the newest version of Prom Night is one of them. With the cancellation of the Golden Globes and the uncertain fate of the upcoming awards season, you have to take red carpet looks anywhere you can find them. Last night’s 13th Annual Critics Awards brought out a spattering of stars and pseudo-celebs… some dressed to the 9′s, most to the 6′s or 7′s.
Take a look at Monday night’s meager red carpet fashion offerings and vote for you favorites after the jump. Read More »
