The number one reason I’m a lover of weekend livin’ is not entirely dedicated to sleeping in, vegging out, and having a few beers without worrying about what time I have to wake up the next morning. I love the weekend for one thing, and one thing only: brunch.
I’m an ooey, gooey, extra runny, eggs benny with extra hollandaise on the side kinda girl. Give me a spicy Bloody Mary with extra olives and mmmm, I’m good to go! (I graduated from mimosas for the spice of a BM but I’m still a sucker for a good momo, too.)
This happens to be prime brunch time, so why not tease our taste buds a little bit? I have captured 30 of the most delicious and incredible brunch items for your drooling pleasure!
I know, I know, you hate me. It’s okay. Read More »

Somehow I think Chinese delivery was a contributing factor here.
This week I’ve been inspired by ThisIsWhyYou’reFat.com… or my own personal struggle with winter weight. Between the Christmas cookies, Starbucks peppermint mochas and, oh yeah, lifting my drinking ban, these have all caused me to pack on the weight over the past three months. I could not be more annoyed with the term “winter weight,” or having to rationalize that I’m not getting fat, just fluffy.
Which is why the only thing I’m asking Santa for this year is a gym membership.
Here are some of the things that might be unfavorably tipping the scales, particularly in this binge-y time of the year.
10. Brunch
My favorite unnecessary meal of the day. At which almost all items on the menu are dripping with syrup. Not good.
9. Driving
Not exactly caloric, but how many times do you hop in the driver’s seat to a destination that’s walking distance? Or for that matter, pile into a cab when you’re only heading ten blocks away. Bad for the bod and the environment.
8. Late night snacking
Those munchies add up, and if you believe the hype, eating after 8 PM is one of the worst things you can do to your body. Read More »

Though it’s getting a bit chillier these days, it’s still Fall, pumpkin-flavored anything is still awesome, and there’s basically nothing better than waking up and making yourself pancakes on a blustery morning, afternoon, or night.
Ok, so maybe having some hottie do it for you would be nice, but you’ll forget all about that once you bite into these badboys.
This recipe is slightly complicated, but it’s nothing a relatively cheap trip the neighborhood grocery store and 30 minutes in the kitchen won’t fix.
And, like that thick trainer at my gym always says, “no pain, no gain.” I’m pretty sure he’s talking about a 45-minute run on the treadmill, but I just think it means all that cooking will be worth it when you’re filled with 2 lbs of pumpkin pancake bliss. Read More »

I love baking, but I’m not the hugest fan of following directions. As a result, I often end up mis-measuring things or adding my own little touches to otherwise boring recipes. Hey, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Anywho, there is nothing that works better with my “add this, throw in that” cooking style than pancakes. Plain pancakes are good, but chocolate chip granola pancakes are fantastic. And pancakes that look like cupcakes? Could there be anything more amazing? I found this recipe on katin cooks and I can’t get enough. It’s simple and delicious, the perfect canvas for fun add-ins and has fool proof instructions that even I can follow. Plus, these little babies make great hangover food! Read More »

I think Easter has become an underestimated holiday. It’s unfortunate that it’s never at the top of the favorite list with similar holidays. I think we fail to see the gloriousness of a low key, no stress holiday because Easter isn’t flashy like the Fourth of July. No one is staying up to wait for the Easter bunny or doing last minute Easter present shopping or tuning into the Easter parade.
It’s true Easter should probably be about religion, and Jesus, and morning mass and whatnot, but I love Easter for a different reason. … it is one of the only holidays that is all the fun and none of the work.
First of all, Easter usually involves a little miracle called brunch also known as the magical union of breakfast and lunch. I always enjoy the meshing of meals. Most of the time that means popcorn for dinner or leftover pizza for breakfast, but brunch is different. Brunch picked the best meals of the day to incorporate croissants and cold cuts, spinach quiche, fruit salad, and bagels – pretty much a spread from heaven. I also enjoy any meal that makes drinking before noon classy instead of trashy (hello mimosas). Read More »

We all want to go home for Easter, but sadly, it’s nearing the end of the school year, and so we’re more likely to be munching on terrible dining-hall food than we are on delicious hollow chocolate rabbits. Before you get depressed about all the candy (oh yeah….and love) you’re missing back home, try bringing the Easter spirit into your own home. No, I’m not talking about Jesus.
I’m talking about an Easter bash. I throw one every year and it’s always fun, festive, and almost as good as the stuff my mom makes back home. Plus, it’s super easy. Here are some tips on throwing your own! Read More »

Sunday mornings…or should I say, Sunday afternoons. Even though the work or school week promises to take over your life in a few short hours, there is still time to relax, do nothing, and eat some badass brunch. Because unless you’re weird, there’s absolutely nothing better than brunch on a lazy weekend morning. I tend to eat enough at brunch to keep me away from meals until dinner — which is perhaps not the best policy — but once a week, I think it’s absolutely okay to take in a few extra calories.
You know who agrees with me? Paula Dean. You know, the lady with the best show on the Food Network, hands down? Paula cooks with enough butter to grease the entire state of New Hampshire, and never apologizes. I love her. I want to be like her when I grow up. Also, she has this recipe for scrumptious banana french toast. It’s not light, it’s not healthy, but I have made it before and it is worth every. single. carb.
Enjoy, my babies. And let us know if you make it…we want deets.

As I wandered near the site of New York City’s Sex and the City premiere yesterday, dodging small bands of women united by a common interest in over-accessorizing for daytime (and being in my way), I found myself compiling a list of people and things that owe much of their current popularity to said show:
Manolo Blahnik
The concept of brunch
Cosmopolitans
Clubs Bungalow 8 and Bed
Cupcakes
The Rabbit
The word fabulous
Retardedly over-thought outfits
Next on my list was “bitching about men”, and I stopped myself short. SATC, I’ll give you credit for the context (brunch, obvs) but you don’t get credit for this one. I should know, I’m a woman, and I’ve been gabbing about men since long before Sex was a twinkle in HBO’s eye.
I’ve been thinking about this phenomenon more recently, as romantic relationships take a more prominent and permanent place in the lives of my friends. Casual dating, serious dating, sleeping around, moving in together, some crazy folks getting married, yadda yadda yadda. Whatever the situation, women have a need (which sometimes borders on the obsessive and pathological) to compare notes and share war stories. Read More »

Mmmm, brunch. Hands-down, this is the best part of my weekend. I love a diner as much as the next New Yorker, but I was raised in the Midwest on the kind of French toast that will have you longing for lazy Sunday afternoons in your kitchen. This is what I usually make for one person… but feel free to double if you’ve got company…
You’ll need:
3 slices of bread (switch up as you prefer, but it can be done with wheat, white, multigrain… up to you. Rye may not be the best choice here)
1 egg
milk (I prefer skim, but use whatever floats your boat)
ground cinnamon Read More »
