As a resident of good ol’ NYC, my out-of-town friends always assume I’m living the Carrie Bradshaw life.  While cosmos do indeed pour out of my sink instead of water, my bedroom doesn’t boast the revolving door of men for which SJP & Co. are famous.  Sure, guys are everywhere- washing your windows in the morning, riding the subway with you in the afternoon, sleeping on your stoop at night- but selecting which ones are actually eligible for your affections is a tad tricky.

You see, everyone knows the gays love Manhattan.  Don’t roll your eyes.  Please, we have Broadway…this is their Mecca.  And across the water we have Brooklyn, a mother ship for hipsters the world over.  They come in droves, sporting their cross-body bags, boasting blasé attitudes and a taste for bands you’ve probably never heard of before.  Wondering what these two groups have in common?  More than you think, and it makes crushing really tough. And I know this phenomenon is spreading like wildfire from coast (Brooklyn) to coast (West Hollywood).

(We’re back with another weekly installment of G.W.W.E [Guys We Want to Eff]. This week we decided to take on a longstanding heartthrob, John Mayer. Mr. Mayer has been turning us on with his love songs since 2001, and we all know his tunes have been on our sexy-time playlists for years. But unlike some other rock stars, John Mayer looks good with or without that guitar, which is why he is totally a G.W.W.E.)

I went to my first John Mayer show back in 2002. The audience – full of shrieking girls like myself – was small. Small enough that I got to meet, touch and take a picture with the sexy singer. Although, to my dismay, I did not have the chance to eff him.

I didn’t wash my sweater for 3 months.

I was in love with John Mayer: his sexy voice, his adorably floppy hair, his lyrics. And while he went through a weird “I’m too busy jamming to take a shower” phase, he came out of it looking better than ever. Even the sexy starlets of Hollywood agree.

John has effed a lot of ladies: Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, and, most recently, Jennifer Aniston. If he can land so many hot, successful women, he must be as good at effing as I always imagined. Read More »

As a kid, I was never really a fan of shorts. Unless they were my brothers mesh Umbro’s or later, the – who knows why they were trendy but they were – mesh bulldog shorts.

I found shorts to ride up, leaving me constantly trying to pick a wedgie when no one was looking (yet someone always managed to see). And let’s face it- unless you have legs like Gisele Bundchen walking around on a summer day can be more than quite uncomfortable in a pair of short shorts.

But these past few season’s shorts have been unavoidable. They have been everywhere and they have been CUTE. With heels? Cute. With sandals? Also cute!

Much like that annoying tag-along friend of yours, shorts have found their way into every occasion. From bars to the beach shorts have become appropriate (and trendy) attire.

So it would only be appropriate that before it gets too cold (although I’m sure some freshman girl will be wearing them to the bar- in January- with no coat and you will obviously spend at least five mintues talking about how ridiculous she looks before you realize that you did that too) that I bring you:
