Wardrobe Wish List: Fumblin’ Foe Sequin Bustier Cami

I survived most of my years in college by borrowing clothes. Most weekends I had another girl’s shirt on my back because I never had any “going out clothes” or the pocket change to spare on them. But some girls had closets and dressers and hampers full of amazing shirts that, after a few drinks, they were always willing to share. And to keep up the barter, I always returned them (sooner or later) back in their original state (after cleaning the spilled beer and cheese sauce).

It wasn’t until I graduated in May that I realized what few pieces of clothing I have. So in honor of populating my closet, I’m sharing this find that will also help you populate yours. Among the many adorable choices on fumblinfoe.net (discovered in the newest Marie Claire) is this going out top that’s weekend perfection.

It’s not just that the sparkles won’t rub off. It’s not just the v-neck or the skinny straps. It’s not just the exposed zipper on the back. And it’s not just that it’s black and slimming while reflective and hot. Read More »

Wardrobe Wish List: Free People All Pucker Lace Camisole

I know the whole lingerie as clothing trend has been going on for awhile now, but it’s taken me some major getting used to. I mean really? Lingerie? It’s nerve-racking enough to strip down to a corset bra in front of my booty call let alone catwalk through the streets and walk into clubs practically naked.

Until now, I’ve avoided the trend altogether. But as I flipped through a Free People catalog last night a gorgeous outfit caught my eye, and much to my surprise what was so gorgeous about it was the stunning lace tank. So I headed to the website and, you guessed it, the shirt looked like something straight out of the Victoria Secret’s lingerie section.

I think I may have found the compromise between wearing full-out sexy-time attire and avoiding the trend altogether in the Free People All Pucker Lace Camisole.   It definitely has the sex appeal of a piece of lingerie with the see-through lace overlay and the corset-inspired vertical ribbing. But the delicately feminine lace, the demure scalloped neckline and the mesh lining make it conservative enough to wear out without feeling overexposed.

The more I think of the possible ways to incorporate this piece into my wardrobe, the more excited I’m getting. There’s no doubt that this would be fabulous for a night out with the girls paired with a pair of dark wash skinny jeans and heels. The rounded bottom hem would let just enough skin peek out at the hips without showing too much. I think I would probably rock it out a little by wearing edgy heels with metal detail and a chunky, mixed-chain necklace. Read More »

8 Under $20: The Gap

If my dry skin and red nose tell me anything it’s that the brutally cold months of winter are here. (Or that I should really invest in some moisturizer.) And they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. If you’re one of the many unlucky souls trudging through the arctic tundra to get anywhere, good luck. Better start layering now, because it’s gonna take awhile.

Luckily, The Gap has come to the rescue with some majorly cute layering pieces (that are all on the cheap!)  that can take your winter from holy-hell-I-can’t-feel-my-limbs to OMG-it’s-really-cold-but-yay!-I-still-look-cute. Because no matter how hard those snowflakes are whipping us in the face, we still deserve to look good. For cheap. There are far more important things to spend our money on, like extra hot lattes from The Bux. Read More »

8 Under $20: Express

8under600x360

So, Express isn’t cheap. That is pretty obvious when you walk in and the hot shirt your eying for your birthday party is marked at $49. But every few months, they have a major sale. And I mean major. The kind that makes you giddy and happy and willing to sift through giant over-stuffed racks because the deals are just. that. good.

You see, Express marks their stuff down to really low prices and then gives you an additional 20% off of that! That is some serious saving on a lot of really cute stuff. It’s a frugal fashionista’s dream. And that dream is coming true right now.

I sifted through the (digital) racks for you and pulled 8 of my favorite pieces. They’re all under $20, so you can stock your closet without that annoying guilt getting in the way. Read More »

8 Under $20: Delia*s

8under600x360

Ok, so Delia*s may not seem like the best place to find some threads once you’re out of high school, but if you look in the right places, it’s a wardrobe gold mine. They have some great basics, even better accessories, and a lot of their stuff is trendy on the cheap (especially if you check out their seasonal clearance/sale). There really is a lot to choose from, but here are some of my absolute faves, all for under $20! Read More »

Day-to-Night Styler: Hanging With the BF (Jean)

Boyfriend jeans are a huge hit this season and I love ‘em not only cuz they’re totally comfy, but because they can easily go from cute & casual for day, to sexy & sassy at night with a few quick changes.

The key to BF jeans is finding ones that are still feminine and not too baggy.  It’s easy for this style to quickly look like you’re just shlubbin’ around, but if you find the right fit, they can be super cute and girly.  And don’t worry about dropping a couple hundred bucks on a cut that may not last for more than a season or two; you can get really cute Boyfriends (the jeans…not the lover) at stores like Target, Wet Seal, Forever 21 or Charlotte Russe.
