Leather Leggings? For Real?

legging-detail-72.jpgI’ll admit it: I like to wear leggings.

They are comfortable, they suck in the fat on my thighs and they look cute for class or a club. That being said, I am a little confused about a trend I just learned about this morning: leather leggings.

I have never tried them, but the first thing that comes to mind when someone even puts “leather” and “leggings” into a single sentence is that time Ross Gellar tried leather pants and couldn’t get them back on.

I mean, how do you even put these one? And don’t your legs make a really weird squeaky noise when you walk? (Note: If you have actual thighs, unlike Lindsay Lohan.) I don’t know; the whole trend just seems to “wannabe biker chick” for me.

What do you think?

Do You Still Need to Look Your Best for B-T-S?

first-day.jpgRemember when the end of the summer meant a shopping trip with your mom and a first-day-of-school photo shoot to chronicle the beginning of first/second/third/fourth grade?

Then high school hit, and you took your own initiative to blow your money on the perfect ensemble to make a statement on day one. Freshman year meant something eye-catching enough to grab the attention of a studly senior, whereas by senior year, your wardrobe had to scream, “I’m a senior. I own this school. And I’m f***ing graduating, bitch!”

Now that college is just around the corner, is it time to retire the tradition of back-to-school clothes, or do you simply need to step it up a notch?

On the first day of college, the campus will be filled with tens of thousands of students, frantically trying to change their schedules, pay their financial aid, and find the right classroom in the right building. It was easy to get noticed in high school, when you were one fashionista among only a few hundred, but in college, the people you meet on the first day are most likely to be a nameless, faceless blur who were kind enough to give you irections to the registrar’s office.

If you are thinking about going all out for a first day of school ensemble, ask yourself what your motivation is. Do you want to look professional to impress the teacher? Give yourself a little extra self-confidence to make it through the day? Find a nice college boy to walk you from one class to another? The following are some broad categories of BTS-wear that I have encountered year after year. You might fall into one of these groups, or you may notice a few hundred students who do on the first day of college. Read More »

Love at 52nd Sight

14371_1.jpgI am crossing my fingers my boyfriend will never read this post, because I have a confession to make: I didn’t think he was hot the first time I saw him. Come to think of it, I didn’t think he was hot the second time I saw him, either. Or the third time. Or… well, you get the picture.

The point is, I think he’s hot now. But I’m not sure I would have come to that thought without the hours I’ve spent hanging out with him, laughing at his jokes and learning more about what makes him tick. Yeah, I think he’s good-looking, but that definitely wasn’t the first thing I noticed about him.

So I guess that means he’s grown on me. In fact, I’m positive he’s grown on me, because I didn’t even want to go out with him the first time he asked me. I didn’t have anything more than a mini-crush on him at the time, and he had to pester me almost nonstop for three days straight before I finally agreed to be his girlfriend, just to get rid of him.

Two and a half years later, you can see that strategy kind of backfired on me. Read More »

When To Make A Guy Wait For Sex

Dear Ladies, I want you to ask yourself a question I often times ask myself on the shameful walk through an apartment which I hardly recognize on a hung over morning. The man at hand’s name is still new to me and I’ve left him snoring in his sheets. His roommates are awake and have no fucking clue who I am, so I wave awkwardly and put my boots on as quickly as possibly. I tell them to have a nice day and I just know, as I stumble down the building’s steps, one of them is asking the other:

“Wasn’t that their first date?”, chuckle, chuckle, chuckle.

So the question of doom is this, ladies:

Are you really a lady?

I’ll be the first one to rub hot wing sauce on my jeans. I can be as tomboy as they come… can’t break a nail cause I don’t have any to break…so I know that I’m not a stereotypical “lady”. But when it comes down to sex, I’m starting to see that the “Anything Goes” handbook I’ve been using for dating might not exactly be relevant anymore. Read More »

Making That Old T-Shirt Stylish

DARE T ShirtI have more t-shirts than anyone should really have ever. Not only could I dress myself for about a month just in t-shirts baring my university’s logo, but I have countless free beer promotion shirts (bonus from working in a bar), funny saying shirts (my favorite being the “I have reservations” Native American one), and shirts from every event/concert/outing I have attended forever.

And I wear a lot of them. I used to boycott getting really dressed up during the day (who needs to look cute in a 9 AM class?), and rock my comfy jeans and a tee. On the rare occasion that I actually decide to enter the gym I’ll throw on one from my collection. But a lot of the time they sit in my dresser unused and unloved. And it makes me kinda sad. Cause all clothes should be loved, right?

One day I thought I might wear one out to a bar if I could create something with it. I was trying to go for the “I – didn’t – really – try – to – look – cute – but – somehow – I – just – look – adorable” look. Except I’m seriously not that creative and the only thing I could think to do was cut the neck a little, and maybe do something to the short sleeves. Read More »

The Maxi-Dress: More is More

jessica simpson keira knightly

The latest trend in summer casual-wear, the “maxi-dress,” just may be my favorite. Because unlike the short-shorts, miniskirts, and flimsy sundresses of summers past, this one lets me get away with not shaving my legs.

Celebrities like Rachel Bilson, Kiera Knightly, and Jessica Simpson have been spotted out and about rocking ankle-length dresses and skirts lately, and I have to say, I think I’ll be jumping on this celeb-trend bandwagon very soon. Read More »
