Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: I Have an Alter Ego Too. I Call Her…Beyonce.

beyonce200.jpg[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.

All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]

I wish I was a Knowles. The gene pool for that family is just not fair. Gorgeous, talented, smart, successful AND an alter ego to boot?! Some people just have all the luck.

While I know being related to the Knowles is not possible and becoming Besties is not-so-likely (although B, I am a fabulous best friend, you know, in case you need one). I’m left with two ways to tap into my inner bootylicsiousness:

1) Dancing around- jelly and all – pretending that I too can be Sasha Fierce

2) Dressing like the fab Beyonce.

So While I won’t be sharing my best Beyonce moves (that magic is bestowed upon my mirrors and microphones er…hairbrushes only) I will share my Beyonce budget finds!

Here is this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: I Have an Alter Ego Too… I Call Her… Beyonce. Read More »

Style Idol: Rihanna’s Got the Look

rhianna.jpgCelebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their (or sometimes in their cases, their stylist’s) totally awesome fashion sense. Each week, I will be highlighting my Style Idol of the week: a celebrity who consistently shows keen fashion sense and whose closet I would raid in a heartbeat.

Of course, no celebs are immune to the occasional “what the hell were they thinking?” moment, but for the most part, these celebs look foxy and fabulous and inspire us all to do the same.

My Style Idol of the week is someone who is one of the most popular young faces in Hollywood/the music scene right now. She does a great job of playing up her personality and youth whether she is heading to a red carpet event, or just hangin’ out.

Celeb Looks for Less: Ashley Olsen’s Mini Success

Ashley Olsen

I’m not always a huge fan of Ashley Olsen’s fashion sense, but I can’t help but love the look she rocked at a recent N.Y.C. screening of Everything at Once.

Ditching the vaguely homeless look, she went for a loose knit top over a mini skirt. Not sure you can pull it off? Making a tight leather mini look classy is not easy, so take a tip from Ashley and pair it with a looser top and sandals–not pumps. And if you’re busty, choose a top that doesn’t put your cleavage on display. A small skirt paired with a tight shirt will you have you looking more like Ashley Dupre than Ashley Olsen.

Here’s how to get the look for less: Read More »

Ladies, Please Wear Clothes that Fit

s4.jpgOkay, let’s set something straight here. Just because your top costs $500 bucks, does NOT mean its flattering. Just because you like wearing leggings does not mean the leggings like you. I would rather see you in a five dollar smock if it would flatter your figure- because my eyes bleed when I am forced to look at all of you pouring out of that $500 Marc Jacobs mini. Yes it may be hot… but honey, NOT ON YOU!

Now don’t get me wrong, I am all about embracing curves, flaunting what you got, wearing a bikini even if you don’t have washboard abs (lord knows I don’t) and that whole bit. But there is a big difference between showing off your figure and wearing clothes that aren’t attractive just because Sienna Miller was rocking the same thing.

Time and time again I see friends, strangers and at times even (gasp!) myself trying to emulate superstars by wearing the same clothes as them. Did I feel cool when I realized Jessica Simpson had the exact same pair (and color!) of sunglasses that I did? You bet. But does that mean I am going wear a metallic colored mini dress tonight like what I saw Hilary Duff in last week? Hellllllll to the no.  Read More »
