From Center Stage To BA: CollegeCandy Interviews Zoe Saldana

I remember watching Center Stage the summer before sixth grade with all of my dance friends and seeing Zoe Saldana as the feisty Eva Rodriguez. Girl was fierce. I wanted to be her and will forever give her credit for my sassy-pants attitude. While she appeared in a ton of movies after Center Stage like Crossroads, Drumline, and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, her career didn’t blow up until 2009. Two massive blockbusters, Star Trek and Avatar, launched Zoe into super-stardom. She’s now every Comic Con go-ers dream, whether they’re fantasizing about the sexy space goddess Uhura or the phenomenally hot (and blue) Neytiri. Zoe has it going on. Her newest film, Colombiana, is in theaters now. You can see her kick ass as the gorgeous Cataleya, who becomes an assassin after her parents are murdered. She’s definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Recently we had the opportunity to discuss some hot topics with Zoe, and here’s what she said:

1. Who inspires you most?

My family, my mother and sisters have all inspired me. They have all been supportive and by my side through everything. I learn from them and they are my best friends.

2. If you could give yourself 5 years ago some advice, what would it be?

I would probably say even if things don’t always go your way, still believe in yourself and keep trying to move forward.

3. What did you think you would be doing now when you were 18?

I was a trained dancer for years but knew that I had this desire to continue performing and loved the creative outlet of acting. I always wanted to do something that I could express myself, challenge myself, and do something creative. Read More »

Celebs at the Airport

My airport uniform consists of leggings, an oversized T-shirt and flip-flops. I don’t put much thought into my airport attire because I’m not chased by the paparazzi every time I step off the plane. However, if I were a celeb, I would probably try to look as amazing as possible.

Some celebs actually DO realize they will be photographed at the airport, and others obviously don’t remember that they’re super famous and people want to photograph them. Here’s some celebrities looking fab (and some not so fab) at the airport. Read More »

Celebs Being Boring

Celebs get photographed no matter what they’re doing, be it anything from getting married to brushing their teeth. And even though we see ourselves brush our own teeth everyday (hopefully…), we’d rather look at pictures of our fave stars doing the same. Bradley Cooper, I will watch you brush your teeth all day long. Better yet, I’ll do it for you.

Here are a few pictures of celebs caught being boring, but you know you want to look anyway.

5 Celebrities Who Have Surprisingly Cool Fashion Labels

It seems like celebrities these days have to be Jacks (or Janes) of All Trades. If you’re a singer then you’re a dancer and if you’re a dancer then you’re an actor. Then comes the fragrance, and then, of course, the clothing line, the last of which can get a little creepy crazy. I mean, everyone remembers the Avril Lavinge era of hoodies and men’s ties right? No? Just me.

Well, if you do remember  the terrifying time then you remember just how ridiculous some of these fashion labels can get. So it’s easy to write off every celeb clothing line as a fashion disaster waiting to happen. And while that may be true for some, that’s not the case for all celebs turned designers.

Don’t believe me? Check out these five celebrities with fashion labels you’ll love.

The Dehumanization of Celebrities

Presumably, we all know that Amy Winehouse passed away on Saturday afternoon, after a long, public struggle with substance abuse. Though we do not know exactly what the cause of her death was, her tumultuous relationship with drugs and alcohol were most likely linked to any health complications that led to her passing. When the news broke, I was on Twitter, and immediately, there was a huge collective burst of sadness and shock among the people I follow who loved her music and were rooting for her to make a comeback. At the same time, there was another loud outpouring of contempt by people who decided to make tacky, tasteless jokes about how she should have said “yes, yes, yes” to rehab and celebrated the death of another waste of space drug addict. The complete lack of empathy for her, her family, her friends and her fans was just shocking to me, especially mere moments after her death was announced.

It’s one thing to delight in the glee of celebs showing up to events in consistently tacky outfits, becoming divas on the Home Shopping Network, continuing to star in movies that flop or getting caught in ridiculous sex scandals (Seriously, tweeting a crotch photo? Comical, lame and totally worth mocking).

When Stars Get WAY Into Movie Roles

We’ve seen it before–stars get so wrapped up in a movie role, we hardly even recognize them when they’re on set (and sometimes even off set). Christian Bale’s beautiful face wasted away when he starred in The Fighter, Charlize Theron somehow made herself look sub-human for her role in Monster, even 50 Cent jumped on the dedicated actor bandwagon when he dropped all those lbs for Things Fall Apart. And let’s not forget Kristen Stewart loving all over that terrible hair mess she had to have for Runaways.

So who is the latest star to get a little carried away with a character? Check out this pic from The Frisky to find out!

Web Spy: OpenSky

I spend an abnormal amount of time online shopping, so I always get exited whenever I hear about a new shopping site — especially if the site features amazing sales! So when I heard about the new website OpenSky, I couldn’t wait to check it out!

OpenSky is a social networking shopping site that allows you to discover great new products, often at great prices. When you join OpenSky, you can choose up to 10 of the site’s celebrity and blogger “curators” to follow, including chef Bobby Flay, actresses Molly Sims and Alicia Silverstone, and fashion designer Cynthia Rowley, to name a few. The curators choose their favorite products to share with their followers, who have the option to purchase the items at up to 60% off! Every week, you’ll get emails from the curators you follow alerting you of their newest must-have product for sale on their OpenSky page, and you can also browse the site to see what other curators are offering, although you’ll have to follow a particular curator in order to see their featured sales.

9 Celebrities who Share WAY Too Much

Celebrities will do practically anything to keep their names in the news these days. If their album flops or their movie doesn’t do so well at the box office, they turn to the world of expose’ memoir books, VH1 reality shows, trashy clothing lines, and tweeting multiple times per hour. Some of them even go as far as to reveal some disgusting, shock-worthy story about themselves just to gain a page in the tabloids this week (yes, I’m talking to you, Florence Henderson). Even though they seem to try a little too hard to stay relevant, I’ll be the first to admit that I can’t get enough of these people.

The Celebrities With the Craziest Fans

There are a lot of perks to being a celebrity. Fame, fortune and all that good stuff are a given, and it’s the reason why so many people would do just about anything to make it big themselves. But as a society I think we often get so caught up in the perks of being famous that we forget about some of the cons; the cons that we as fans who want to know all about these people contribute to. There’s lack of privacy, gossip, and lots and lots of crazy people following your every move, which you probably think would be one of the perks. And I’m sure for a lot of celebrities that is one of the perks. But some fans, well, they can get a little bit crazy, and that’s when things can get just a little bit scary, especially for these celebrities right here.

Not the craziest fan in the

Alright CollegeCandies, which celebs do you think have the craziest fans? Or are you a crazy fan yourself? Leave a comment and let us know. We won’t tell. Promise.
