Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Kate Bosworth Rocks The White

kate-bosworth-topshop-06Kate Bosworth is totally rocking the white denim. Which, in case you’ve neglected to look at ANY fashion magazine or read anything on this website in the past year and a half, is a major fashion trend. And not only is it a trend – it’s an adorably cute summer one.

I know what you’re thinking: white denim can only be pulled off by the super-skinny-I-say-I-eat-cookies-but-I-really-only-’eat’-water-I-totally-have-you-fooled! type of girls. But I’m here to tell you you’re wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

White denim can be worn by almost anyone given that you wear it the RIGHT way. I generally recommend going one size up when wearing white pants. Also, look at your body type; if your legs are short, if you are bottom heavy or if you just feel your  legs are not your best asset, don’t go for super skinny, super tight white pants. Stick to a boot cut, wide leg or flare. Also, pair it with a top that flows well with the bottom, A pattern is great because it brings the eye up. And don’t forget to keep the shoe neutral so that it blends and looks monochromatic. Black patent shoes paired with white jeans will only draw the eye down.

And lastly, please, for the love of g-d, don’t wear a thong if the fabric is thin. There is nothing worse than white pants accessorized with too much jiggle in your wiggle. It turns your cute little sashay down the street to anything butt (extra T intended).

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Everything’s Coming Up Vanessa Hudgens

vanessa-hudgens-skirt-flirt-12Let’s cut to the chase. Vanessa Hudgens looks cute. I mean the girl could wear a potato sack and look cute. but here’s the good news: you don’t need to be dating a man with better side swept bangs than mine in order to attain this level of cuteness. I know!! So exciting.

Anyways, Hudgens works this season’s floral trend perfectly. And it’s not easy; there are three different levels of floral patterns and if you pick the wrong one, it could be a fashion disaster. What are they?

1) The cheap, horribly tacky looking kind
2) The kind that looks like your grandmother’s couch. Or your grandmother’s floral skirt. And matching floral vest.
3) The really, really cute kind.

With color and patterns being EVERYWHERE this season it’s really easy to become desensitized to it all and, before you know it, you’re sporting a fabric that is best suited covered in plastic with a remote control and the year 1977 attached to it. So leave it to me – and, uh, V. Hudge – to help you sort through the bubbie looks to find the floral must-haves.

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: It’s so Easy Being Green!

tori_spelling[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]

Green. The color of all things great: this lovely planet, money and Starbucks straws.

Oh, and how can I forget fashion?

This season there is no shortage of kelly green. And for good reason; this color looks good on nearly everyone, and totally sets its wearer out from the crowd. From the red carpet to Old Navy, there it is – yet another cute, bright green dress shouting, “BUY ME! You have to have me for summer!!”

I’ve never been good at saying no, especially when something (or someone) so cute is talking to me.

I like to call this little sitch the big green oxymoron. I don’t have any green in my wallet to buy said green dress, but I have to have it. What is one to do? Well, aside from splitting your purchase onto three different credit cards, of course (not that I’m condoning that!).

Thankfully, you don’t have to spend a lot of green to take home the green, and I’m here to bring you these cute green dresses for cheap. You love me. I know.

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Color Me Tie Dye

ashley_tisdale

[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to. All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Tie Dye was cool when my mom was my age. Then it was cool again in 7th grade. And let me tell you I tore that trend up. I was just yay shy of deciding that my bat-mitzvah give away should be a tie dyed t-shirt. I LIVED for the days at camp when we would make our own tie-dye. And even though my color palette never turned out quite right (more like murkey brown poo) I still thought I was destined to be a hippie. I rocked tie dye so bright that my eyes hurt just thinking about it.

So when I saw that tie dye was making its 19th comeback, I cringed, I avoided, and I said to myself I wouldn’t wear it.

But then I saw the dresses like the ones on our friends over here, and I saw some really cute ones at Bloomingdales, and Nordstrom and Forever 21 and Urban and, oy, the list goes on. As much as I wanted to fight – kicking and screaming – against the return of tie dye (what’s next? Hypercolor?!) I couldn’t deny the fact that they would look so cute with some woven sandals or high wedges.

The whole tie dye look gives off that “I look cute without even trying” vibe that we all want to convey. And the more I see it, the more I can’t look away. Just like those pictures of Britney’s Britney. (You know what I’m talkin’ about.)

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Miley Cyrus Has a Fashion Theory

3c12a9ac199fec45_kelly-miley.jpg

I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t like some of Miley Cyrus’ songs, or even guiltily thinking (to myself) last weekend that the preview for her movie looked cute and that maaaybe I would have to find a 9 year old girl to babysit so that I wouldn’t look like such a tool going to see it. (Hey, I know you all saw and loved the Lizzie McGuire Movie! No? Just Me? Okay then…)

But what I can proudly admit to you, dear readers, is my love affiar with this Theory dress that our gal pal is wearing. It’s simple, it’s flattering and it’s a dress-up or down type of frock.

But, as we all know, Theory’s prices don’t exactly fit in our college chic budgets. (Let’s be real for a moment: any extra money we have is going to Vodka Tonics/late night eats.) Thank god you guys have me, then. I found the perfect pieces to build this look without having to worry about your DVR services being cancelled (lest you miss an episode of Real Housewives).

So here is this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Miley Cyrus Has a Fashion Theory.

Other Things Happened This Weekend Besides Sarah Palin on SNL

large_tina-sarah.jpgGod, Sarah Palin is everywhere this morning. As if my sh*tty vodka induced hangover wasn’t bad enough, everywhere I turn I see the clip of S.P. on SNL.

Yes, it was funny.

Yes, she did a good job.

Yes, she still had that damn beehive-y hairdo with the bad highlights and major bangs.

But isn’t there anything else to talk about?

Like, I don’t know, what’s happening at the New York Stock Exchange.

Or the fact that I still haven’t found someone to snuggle with.

Or that Adam Sandler’s daughter looks eerily just. like. him.

Or this hilarious library bingo from Butler (that somehow everyone on every campus can relate to).

Come on, people. There are other things to talk about besides SNL and politics. Like fashion. Or makeup. Or celebrities who make really poor choices.

Style Idol: Rihanna’s Got the Look

rhianna.jpgCelebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their (or sometimes in their cases, their stylist’s) totally awesome fashion sense. Each week, I will be highlighting my Style Idol of the week: a celebrity who consistently shows keen fashion sense and whose closet I would raid in a heartbeat.

Of course, no celebs are immune to the occasional “what the hell were they thinking?” moment, but for the most part, these celebs look foxy and fabulous and inspire us all to do the same.

My Style Idol of the week is someone who is one of the most popular young faces in Hollywood/the music scene right now. She does a great job of playing up her personality and youth whether she is heading to a red carpet event, or just hangin’ out.
