Latest goss on 90s Nostalgia Street is that Will Smith is something of an ass. We kinda already knew that he’s a little full of himself, but did you ever think it came from a bad place? This is the guy who saved the world in Independence Day! The man who helped others find love in Hitch! This is the effing Fresh Prince!!

But alas, Auntie Viv has spoken out. And she loathes her nephew. She always seemed like she had a temper, but she completely puts Will Smith on blast.

Don’t worry. I’m not going to gossip about this, say something witty, or even try to attempt to understand what she or her loved ones are going through right now. Instead, I’m just going to say thank you to Catherine Zeta Jones for doing the one thing so many celebrities have been unable to do: be honest.

Yes, she actually came out  and said it. The truth. The real reasons she needs help. She didn’t try to claim exhaustion or dehydration or dizziness. She didn’t try to claim anything at all. There was no PR plan. She didn’t try to cover it up or divert attention away from her issues or be anything less than completely open about the struggle she’s facing. She told the truth about exactly what she was going through, and the reasons why she was going through it.

Back in February Charlie Sheen claimed he was hospitalized for a stomach ulcer. Lindsay Lohan has often claimed she was heading off to rehab because of “exhaustion,” and so has Collin Farrell and Dave Chappelle. In the past, even Eminem has used a vague “medical issues” and left it at that. Celebs don’t tell the truth. They don’t give us the real reasons behind these hospitalizations and rehab stays. Why are they really getting help? Why do they really need help? For some we can guess the answers, and we’d probably guess right, but the possibilities can often seem so much worse than the realities. The possibilities let gossip magazines run stories with little truth to them, leave people without answers, and force speculation.

Hopefully by being up front about her issues Catherine Zeta Jones can avoid some of that, while also reminding people that mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. Because what she did takes courage. The media is not always nice to celebrities, even when they’re facing serious illnesses. She took a chance when she told the truth. She was straightforward and honest about her health and about the help she needed, and for that I thank her.

So I have to wonder how and why CBS is sitting idly by as story after horrific story surfaces about their golden child.

Okay, so we all know Charlie Sheen isn’t really the best role model and as a grown man, he shouldn’t have to be. It’s not like little 10-year-old girls are looking up to him. But wait, they are! Charlie stars in the number one family show on a family network. A show that families watch together, children and all. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist (or a TV executive) to realize it might be a bit of a problem to have a man who is famous for benders with 5 ‘escorts’ to maintain his starring role.

But CBS isn’t pulling him. In fact, they’ve announced that they will be shooting the show around when Charlie is high on coke and when he isn’t. (Well, not in so many words, but that’s the gist of it.) Way to be flexible, CBS.

But this is about more than CBS rewarding Sheen’s behavior with oodles and oodles of money and fame. Charlie has a real problem and it’s been going on since 1990 when he shot his fiancée in the arm. (True story.) From failed marriages to hospitalizations, the guy’s personal life is in shambles and he continues to put himself in danger.

So why hasn’t Sheen gotten the wake up call he oh-so needs? Why hasn’t CBS stepped in and tried to help? Why are we continuing to berate the likes of Miley Cyrus for smoking a LEGAL drug or the cast of ‘Glee’ for taking some “racy” pictures, yet saying nothing about the terrible message Charlie Sheen and CBS are sending to the world that you can mess up as many times as you want and there will be no repercussions?

Before the hate comments start to roll in, I will give Sheen props (although I say that through clenched teeth) for making an effort and going into rehab. That is a huge step for someone with a drug addiction.  But the whole letting Charlie slide under the radar for the stuff he’s pulling has got to stop. And if Charlie doesn’t have family or friends to help him through it, then it’s up to CBS to push him in the right direction. Anyone who’s ever seen an episode of ‘Intervention’ knows an addict needs to hit rock bottom before they’ll agree to help themselves, so maybe it’s time those CBS execs caught an episode and learned a few things. Maybe it’s time they created that rock bottom for Charlie. Maybe it’s time they tell him that he needs to get his act together or he’ll lose his job. Maybe it’s time they stop rewarding his bad behavior with bigger paychecks and a more flexible shooting schedule.

Maybe it’s time that they stop thinking about the ratings and the money for a moment and actually take care of someone who can’t take care of himself.

This week, the Golden Globes happened along with a lot of other fun stuff! Celebs got pissed, celebs got engaged, celebs broke up, and some celebs even had secret babies! All in all, a well-rounded week, I’d say.

Back To The Semester Parties

1. You’ll probably never see Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes again. Despite the fact that he did a hilarious job of hosting the Golden Globes, which would have been utterly dull without him, Ricky Gervais’s jokes are being slammed by the majority of Hollywood. Why? I guess because he made fun of both Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp within the first five minutes (I guess Hollywood royalty isn’t used to being picked on…), he trashed the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press, and according to some people, he just went ‘too far’ with the jokes he made about Robert Downey Jr., Bruce Willis, and Tom Cruise. There were tons of rumors that he was asked to never return – but apparently, Ricky has made that decision on his own. Can we pull the stick out of Hollywood’s Botox-injected butt, please?

2. Halle Berry is having baby daddy drama. She’s going into a custody battle with her ex, Gabriel Aubry, over their daughter Nahla. He wants to be officially declared the father, and wants joint custody of his daughter. Can’t really blame the guy, can you? Their break-up seemed pretty friendly, but let’s see what happens when the court gets involved.

3. Anne Hathaway had a great week – not only has it been announced that she’ll be making an appearance on Glee, but she was also cast as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. I guess we’ll find out if Anne has the vocal ability to hold her own on Glee, and the body to pull off that catsuit. All that and the fact that she gets to host the Oscars with James Franco AND got to make out with Jake Gyllenhaal for a movie makes me kind of hate her… and want her life.

4. Kanye West is PISSED. Earlier this week, the rapper made a little joke on his Twitter about Britney Spears: “I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time!” Britney’s manager replied with, “Thanks for letting us be #1. Much appreciated.” The whole thing was obviously a joke, with Kanye kind of making fun of himself. But the media blew the entire thing out of proportion (WHAT? I know, that never happens), and Kanye was not very happy about it. He wrote a little blog about it, saying “This sh*t takes the air out of my lungs sometimes from blogs to news reports… enough already!!” Amen, Kanye. AMEN.

5.  Nicole Kidman had a secret baby. Kind of. She and Keith Urban welcomed a daughter born through a surrogate mother. No one knew it was happening, so it was pretty random. Too bad this didn’t happen last week, when everyone in Hollywood decided to get pregnant.

Back To The Semester Studying

1. Regis Philbin is retiring. He’s leaving his long-standing post as the host of Live! With Regis and Kelly. Everyone is already wondering who will replace him… but no one seems to be too surprised. That dude is OLD.

2. The Coachella 2011 lineup was announced. If you live in California or near this area, just know that I am extremely jealous of you. Set to perform are Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Lauryn Hill, Interpol, Neon Trees, Jimmy Eat World, Duran Duran, and soooo many more. Tickets are almost $300 for the 3-day concert, but it’s also an amazing celeb-and-music filled event that everyone should experience. Like I said… jealous, from cold New York.

3. Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted with Camilla Belle, and the dating rumors immediately flooded the Internet. It WAS kind of a weird coincidence that right after he breaks up with Taylor Swift, he was spotted with her reported ‘enemy’. Oh man, I can’t wait to hear this song.

4. Don’t worry, ladies and guys – Pauly D is still single, as is January Jones. January Jones and her boyfriend, SNL star Jason Sudekis, broke up this week. Honestly, I had no idea they were dating (shameful for me to admit as a gossip blogger), but that sucks because she’s beautiful and he’s funny. And if you were hoping to run into Pauly D at a club and make out with him, you still can. He denied that he’s dating both Chloe Sevigny and Brittany Gastineau.

5. Two more Hollywood engagements: Jodie Sweetin, former Full House star, got engaged. Aw, Stephanie Tanner! But I can’t say I’m happy for these other two – Jesse James and Kat Von D. Ew. You deserve each other. (Sandra, you’re so much better).

Dear Stars and Starlets of Hollywood,

I understand that many of you are feeling a little hurt from Ricky Gervais’ monologue. And I have three little words for your GET OVER IT!

(Take a deep breath now before you read the rest. Good? Good.)

It’s a joke.  The whole world loves to see comedians (such as Rickey Gervais or Kathy Griffin) poke fun at other celebrities. It’s like seeing the popular girls in school get taken down, but better because it’s on national television….and you have to keep smiling.

The audience (the people spending their money watching your movies) loves it; why else would celebrity gossip magazines be flying off the shelf every week? Oh and Ms. Jolie – how many movies have you had succeed at the box office? Who are you practically married to again? Oh right, Brad Pitt.  I think you can handle a little joke about The Tourist. I’d let anyone make fun of me so long as I could come home to those arms of steel.

And another thing, aren’t you constantly told to have a thick skin to be in the acting world? Well where is it?! I mean you all must get rejected countless times at auditions — shouldn’t you be able to handle a little joke every now and then?

Not to mention most of the people who made it to the Gervais’ cut-you-down-because-it’s-funny list were all celebs that have been in the news recently. He wasn’t talking about some big hush hush secrets; he was merely commenting on what we all already knew…and joked about. I mean, Charlie Sheen hasn’t exactly been subtle about his recent adventures. The funny man just made it well…funnier.

And while we’re on this “get over yourself” subject, let’s keep it going. After all, it wasn’t just the Golden Globes that has been getting all your Hollywood panties in a bunch. I’ve seen how you all react to the clips from SNL or when you’re featured on a talk show. Robert Pattinson, I see that killer look in your eyes when you’re poked fun at for playing something that sparkles. Well people, live with your decisions. Because unlike the rest of us, you chose a career that happens to be in the public eye. And you get rewarded pretty handsomely for it.

Speaking of SNL, Mrs. Tom Cruise, I get that you are rather sensitive, but boycotting the Oscars because you’re mad at Anne Hathaway? Please. I understand that your career hasn’t really taken off like you hoped since you got married to Tommy and you haven’t had the luxury of mocking others on SNL, but it happens. You weren’t the first person to be satirized and you won’t be the last. So get off your high horse and learn how to laugh. Making a fuss just makes you look like a prude who can’t take a joke and if we’ve learned anything from The Situation, it’s that no one likes a prude.

To the rest of you lot, maybe you need to watch some funny clips from YouTube or something and relearn how to take a joke. Just because you make millions from movies does not exclude you from being made fun of, so come on down from the pedestal you all have placed yourself on and crack a smile. Yes, Nicole Kidman, it might mess with your daily Botox injections but it’s totally worth it.

I like to be numbed by celebrity gossip.  Whenever I’m having a bad day, I run to the back of the magazine stands, snatch up an US Weekly and bury my sorrows into all of the celebrity problems I can’t even fathom being involved with. And yeah, all that “celebrity cellulite!” and “stars without their makeup!” stuff is great, but it’s the relationship gossip that really wets my palette. Brett Favre sent his penis pics to who? Taylor Swift had coffee with Jake Gyllenhaal? Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato are dunzo?

After spending 8 hours a day studying and another 3 wallowing in my own relationship problems (like the fact that I don’t have one) a gossip mag is my perfect getaway.  I can sit back, file my worries away, and bask in the glory that is the perfect, blissful relationships of the stars.

But sometimes, news about celebrity love lives makes me even more depressed. Especially when it involves my two favorite High School Musical stars, Zac and Vanessa. Like really?! They were the ultimate power Disney couple.

When my favorite celebs take a trip to break-up land, it strikes me right in the heart.  I am their cheerleader, their sideline pepfest, I want them to survive. If not to procreate than at least to prove to me that love is out there and it is beautiful.  And when they don’t? Well, it hurts more than being dumped via a grammatically incorrect text. And trust me, I know.

I have three finals, two papers, and one draft of my senior thesis keeping me from my winter break. Not a walk in the park, but also not an all time high as far finals week frenzies go.  But yet, here I sit, far too enamored in this week’s episode of What Not to Wear to even think about getting any of this work done.

This is not stuff worth procrastinating. It requires no freak outs, no massive amounts of brain power. These papers are not worth the all-nighters they will result in if I leave the researching and the writing until the last minute. They are not worth the caffeine induced frenzy I will face the morning after just to get through classes. I should focus, and buckle down, and power through so that I can be done with it. But yet, here I sit, watching Stacy London argue for wedges over flip flops.

It’s time to face the facts: I have senioritis.

I remember the symptoms from the last trimester of senior year in high school. Lack of motivation. An unwillingness to go to class. The desire to sleep through every single one of my professor’s well intentioned lectures. Reading for classes is a nuisance. Getting up in time for class is a struggle. I have no desire to accomplish anything ever…

Okay, so maybe most of those symptoms aren’t exactly restricted to senioritis.  But right now, they’re amplified. Procrastination is a part of every student’s life, but lately I’ve made it into an art form. I know that I should do these papers, go to class, finish out the semester, graduate, but right now I’m just having trouble seeing the point of it all.  Because frankly, I really, really don’t want to. With graduation comes responsibility, real life, a weekend that doesn’t include Friday’s off, and days that don’t include time slots for naps and Facebook stalking. So I should embrace the chance to be irresponsible while I can, right?

Right.

I mean, I am a senior. Shouldn’t I be exempt from all of this? Shouldn’t I be guaranteed good grades and allowed to sleep in because I won’t be able to for much longer? Shouldn’t I be rewarded for making it through the past three years alive?

I wish.

But no. As nice as that would be (a girl can dream, can’t she?) that’s not exactly how it works. I still need to finish out the semester.  And even then I’m not exactly done. I still have to go back in January and take classes. Again. I still need to finish my thesis. And my major. And that means one more semester of papers and professors and procrastination.

So I need to figure out a way to focus. I need to not end up cleaning my keyboard or Windexing my computer screen every time I start to type. I need to figure out how I end up reading celebrity gossip every time I turn on my laptop. Yesterday, I sat down to type out an outline for my senior thesis and ended up on zappos.com looking at shoes I cannot afford. And that was after I spent an hour sifting through Facebook photos from years past. But not before complaining via text about the fact that I even had to write the paper at all.

I just need to focus. Sign out of Facebook. Shut the television. Put my phone on silent.  Concentrate. I can do this. Because I need to. I need to kick this habit. And I need to kick it now.

In fact I think I’ll go start researching for that paper.

Big Ass Pageant Hair

1. Mel Gibson has been kicked off the cast of The Hangover 2! Yikes! Is anyone surprised, though? Given the recent controversy in Melgate, probably not. Mel was supposed to play a tattoo artist in the film as the crew gets lost somewhere in Thailand. Then, earlier this week Zach Galifianakis opened up about how he was upset with a movie he was working on and the next thing we know, director Todd Phillips axes Mel because they didn’t have the “full support of the cast.”

2. Is Beyonce preggo? According to sources, no! Rumors were flying this week about a possible Baby-B, and Us Weekly reported that Jay-Z really wants kids. BUT, Beyonce’s mom will be on Ellen to confirm that the rumors are false. Sadface! Maybe they’re trying to hide it, maybe it really isn’t true. One thing’s for sure: we would love to see a baby in their future. If only to see him/her do this.

3. If you were freaking out about Jean-Claude Van Damme’s heart attack this week, don’t worry! He’s fine! It was a fake. The gossip sites were flooding with rumors, saying he suffered a heart attack while working on his new film, Weapon. He posted on his Facebook page that it wasn’t true and not to believe any rumors from “unofficial JCVD sites.” We’re glad he’s okay!

4. What’s going on with Christina Aguilera? Sigh, who the hell knows? There’s been a lot of rumors going around following her divorce from Jordan Bratman like they had an open marriage so she could hook up with girls, and she may have a relationship with Sam Ronson. Yeah, we’re just as confused as you. While most of the rumors have been shut down, there’s one regarding stitches the singer received this week. Christina got some stitches on her lip and Jordan said she fell, or something. There’s no reports of domestic violence, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

5. Contrary to popular belief, Reese Witherspoon is not engaged! While this has been the buzz, it’s not true. Yet. She’s been dating Hollywood agent Jim Toth since January, and he thinks she’s the one. Poor Jake Gyllenhaal. It’s okay Jakey, we’ll console you.

1. James Franco has finally released his collection of short stories, Palo Alto! His career has been blowin up! I’m going to Barnes & Noble tomorrow to get it for sure. Hopefully there are some hottie shirtless shots on every page.

2. Katy Perry and Russell Brand are getting married this weekend. They’re having a six day wedding in India! Here’s hoping she wears a wedding cake bustier.

3. Dianna Agron apologized for the Glee GQ photo shoot this week, but not really. She apologized if she offended anyone, but also wondered who on earth is buying their children subscriptions to GQ. You’ve got nothing to apologize for, honey!
