The recession is bad news for anyone looking to get a job, save some money or sell a house. But it’s great news for fashionistas! Stores that were once dowdy and just screamed “crazy cat lady” are bringing in new designers to create chic lines at lower prices.
Take JC Penney. When was the last time you stopped in there (not counting those post-Starbucks bathroom emergencies)? I know: never. Because their clothes were cheap, outdated and just not cute. Well, that’s not the case anymore! JCP now sells several lines by popular designers (Charlotte Ronson, Nicole Miller, and Allen B. Schwartz, to name a few) and they not only have stuff that is totes cute, it’s totes affordable as well. I can’t wait to add some of these pieces to my closet… Read More »

A Warning: eBay is totally addictive! I have always loved thrift shopping, and eBay came along and totally enabled my obsession with hunting for the perfect dress/shoes/jeans/furniture in a way that probably isn’t 100% healthy.
Obviously, while clothes and jewelry are my personal area of expertise/weakness, they are just the tip of the eBay iceberg. I needed more memory for my computer recently, and I bought it on eBay for under $20. My boyfriend bought an icemaker for our freezer. If you need it, it’s probably on eBay, and you can probably save at least a few bucks off what you would pay elsewhere! Here are some tips to get you started: Read More »

With the economy being what it is, I’ve found myself turning to the Internet more and more for both my daily necessities and my fashion cravings. If I see something in a store I like, I immediately look it up online, sometimes while I’m still in the store (thank you, iPhone), to find out if I can get it online for cheaper.
Other stores exist only in the online realm, and those can be very hit or miss. And when they’re selling items from a brand I’ve never tried before, it can be a bit nerve wracking ordering anything. Thank the recession gods, then, that there are websites that sell non-brand but still on-trend fashions for prices that are so low, I can browse, buy, and try out different styles without taking (too much) away from my rent money. We’ve teamed up with our friends at FashionPulseDaily to bring you the best of Forever 21. Every Wednesday, we’ll highlight a fabulous Forever 21 item that stands out above the rest in that over-crowded (but totally fabulous), color coordinated store. For more fashion fun, check out FashionPulseDaily.
So, I know this seems a bit ridiculous to be wanting a lightweight cotton jacket right now, but hear me out: the fall/spring light jacket-wearing seasons are so short that it just doesn’t make sense to wear a cotton jacket solely for those seasons. What I propose is to get the Fab Casual Jacket , $17.50, and start wearing it now. You can definitely fit a thin cashmere sweater underneath, and it adds an extra chic layer in these terribly frigid temperatures. Choose from six fabulous colors (my three favorites are above!). Add $5.95 for s&h.

[Welcome to my Weekly Love List. A list, on all things I love. Because if I love them - well then obviously you may (and should) love them too. As the Backstreet Boys song says (and yes I am actually quoting them) “My Love is All I Have To Give.” So with that throwback, here are this week’s list-worthy things…]
1. Old navy. Okay so Old Navy is not new- but it is list worthy, and let me tell you why. They have STEPPED UP their styles, but have kept their prices down- which makes me want to get jiggy at Old Navy. C.U.T.E. tanks for $10? Now that is something worth loving.
2. Hey, It’s Free! Couple your college budget with the failing economy, and the fact that air is still free seems pretty amazing. But, thankfully, this blogger came to the rescue with free stuff for all! Check it out for free loot like Free MP3s from Amazon.com, free food, etc.
3. Kindnotes.com – With Thanksgiving and the holidays just around the corner, here is a cute gift idea that is affordable, original, and filled with love. A custom made decorated jar with 31 mini-printed envelopes for each day of the month. You can either write a personal note on each, or pick from a library of over 300 different messages. After all, it’s all about spreading the love. Read More »

[Every week our style guru takes a celebrity look and breaks it down for you, our poor college fashionista. What does that mean? It means that while the celebrities are spending $5,000 on an ensemble, you don’t have to.
All you have to do is click on the goods and - boom - you can buy the entire ensemble. Yes, we know; there is a spot for her in heaven.]
The black and white combo. Always a classic, always a trend, and always a sure fire winner. Case in point – Black or White – only one of the best MJ songs of all time (espesh the part with the kid yelling at his dad “Eat THIS!”)
It’s the easiest way to look cute without having to really try. Which is the only kind of cute to ever exist. And it’s the best way to make use of what you already have in your closet. In other words: it’s the perfect ensemble for that night when you truly feel that you have NOTHING to wear (even though I know you’re lying).
So this week I bring you: Celebrity Chic on the Cheap- Baby It Don’t Matter if You’re Black or White (or, in this case, both):

While I may be the only person on this site who is so not up to date on The Hills – I just feel like I lose 50 million brain cells everytime I watch that show – I have to admit I do like this look.
It’s great for class – casual, yet pulled together- and screams “I’m a regular person- but not that regular- I stand out. I should be on TV for doing absolutely NOTHING!” (And really – who doesn’t want to have a look that screams that?!)
The hat makes this look a little different, adorable, and covers up your dirty hair that you didn’t have time to wash after you hit snooze 6 times… Read More »

Ah, cheap yet stylish clothes. Does it really get any better than that? Where else besides Forever 21 or H&M can you snag a $5 top on clearance, or track down a pair of really sweet wide-leg pants for less than $30?I suppose Target or Marshall’s might fall into a similar category, but I’ve always considered their clothes to be on a different level. Target is known for stocking basics over trends, and Marshall’s is known for stocking trends… from two or three seasons ago, so we’ll just leave them out of this discussion.
I have this theory: you’re either a Forever 21 person or an H&M person. You are what you are, and you can never switch over—it’s sacrilegious. If you shop at both, let’s face it: your loyalty lies with one, and you’re just cheating on it with the other. Shame on you.
I happen to be an H&M kinda girl. There – I said it. H&M is and always will be better. Is there really a competition? Not even a little bit. Read More »

Is the economy killing you? Yeah? (Join the club. I can’t even afford mixers for my vodka anymore.) Don’t wanna spend money on cute clothes if you can help it? Well, rally up your girls and organize a clothing swap party. They’re fun AND you end up walking home with tons of new clothes-for free! Here is how it works:
Get together with a group of your favorite ladies – especially those with wardrobes you would kill for. Tell everyone to bring clothes to the party that they don’t wear anymore. Assign each girl to a spot on the floor where she will pile up all the goodies she brought with her.
Each girl will take turns going around the circle and holding up one of the items she brought with her. Whoever wants it can raise their hands. If more than one girl wants it, settle the score through a trivia game…or a drinking game… whichever you choose. Read More »
