Some of the best food in Los Angeles, though not in the guide books, are still celebrity packed (if you’re into that sort of thing) so, even though it may look unassuming, don’t forget to bring your camera.

Best Mexican Food- Casa Vega, located on the other side of “the hill” also known as “the valley” is the number one BEST burrito machine, ever. Huge portions, flavored margaritas, dim lighting so the stars can eat peace and friendly mariachi. This is a must, make sure to visit with an empty belly.

Best Pancakes-The Griddle of of Sunset Blvd. is the best place to gain 10 ponds in one sitting. The waiters look like Abercrombie and Fitch models, the pancakes are large (you could easily share) with creative names like; Black magic (oreos) and The Golden Ticket (caramel and bananas) and actually…everything on the menu is amazing. Plus, I saw Hanson here once, how awesome is that?

Best EVERYTHING- Aroma Cafe, what looks like a tiny restaurant with a case full of gourmet cakes is actually the best in all of Los Angeles. The dessert is to die for. Visit for coffee, lunch, dinner or visit the bookstore attached to the restaurant, then hop around the surrounding area for some great shopping.

Best Burgers and Shakes- Swingers Diner, good music, cool atmosphere, and late night dining.

Now let’s have some fun…

Though yes is it “touristy”, the locals hang here to- The Sunset Strip, the history is amazing, live music lines the street: Whiskey a go-go (The Doors old haunt), The Viper Room, House of Blues, The Roxy, among others.

Also, go ride the bull at Saddle Ranch, watch live art or lay by the pool at The Standard or laugh your ass off at the historical Laugh Factory. Did I forget to mention the Hustler Store is also on Sunset?

Silverlake- Known for being a buzzing community of artists, and hipsters this area is full of coffee shops, records stores, arty characters and galleries.

The Getty Museum-Located near UCLA, this museum is one of the best. Gardens, cafe’s and FREE admission makes this an imperative to your trip.

Feel like shopping?

Best One Stop Shop- Melrose Avenue, it’s true….Melrose is where it’s at. You can find affordable finds, as well splurge’s if you must, all on one block!

Also visit, The Grove, expensive dining but great shopping and free outdoor concerts.

If you haven’t already gone over budget, or if you have, make sure to hit up Downtown Santa Monica and Third Street Promenade. Situated next to the beach, the shopping, street performers, bars and pier with rickety ferris wheels and carnival games, this is a full day of fun.

And before you go….make sure to take a hike through Runyon Canyon, the off the leash dog park and free yoga every weekday at 11am will make you never want to leave….and when you finally reach the top of the mountain, the view will remind you how beautiful L.A. actually is!!
