Anyone with a sense of humor can tell that Saturday Night Live has ebbed a little when it comes to being hilarious.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what has turned the once intensely entertaining show into an hour of slightly-too-long sketches that sometimes make a person laugh, but whatever the recipe that conjured the Eddie Murphy, Chris Farley and later Will Ferrell generation, today’s SNL could use it.

That being said, I’m not sure the holiday would be complete without a little visit from a vintage SNL clip that only gets funnier with age. The combination of public radio personalities, Alec Baldwin, and tasty, bite-size treats is pure comic genius.

This bad habit extends to songs I do know, but whose lyrics I’m slightly confused about. I get it in my head that the line should be one way—the first way I heard it—and despite the world being “itch,” and not “bitch,” I feel like it’s OK to give my own interpretation.

Then there’s the songs I just have no idea about. Do you remember that scene from Tommy Boy where Chris Farley and David Spade are trying to sing along to It’s the End of the World as We Know It? “Six o’clock, TV hour, hum-diddy-dum-dum, du….” Yeah. Does anyone know the words to that song? Or how about Bruce Springsteen’s Blinded by the Light—did he really just say “revved up like a douche?”

While Yahoo Music might not be able to help me (or those in the car with me) from singing wrong notes, now they can help me interpret those hard to figure out lyrics. Yesterday, Yahoo music launched a new lyrics search and is now the first legal provider on the internet of song lyrics.

I tried it out, and it’s pretty cool. You do need to know at least a few words in the song as it searches by exact lyrics. You also cannot (unless I just couldn’t figure it out) search by artists except those that are featured on the main page. It seems like there is still some fine-tuning to be done, but all in all it’s a good deal.

By the way… Blinded By the Light is not on Yahoo Music lyric search, but I did learn today from UrbanDictionary.com that the line is in fact, “revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night.” They did, however, have It’s the End of the World… But there were really too many words for me to remember so I think I’ll just stick to making weird vowel sounds as the song goes along.
