My Facebook news feed is full of statuses about finishing finals and graduating. “Omg, last paper EVER!” “I’m done I’m done I’m done I’m done!!!!” “Graduating in THREE DAYS.”

To those people, I would like to say: congratulations. But I hate you right now. Because I still have a week of finals left, and I’m only a junior! So I’ll be doing this all over again next year. But really, seniors, congrats. You get to go out into the world and be real people! It’s so exciting. I’ll always think that the boybands of my childhood (Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, duh) are the creme of the crop. Maybe that explains my aversion to One Direction, or maybe I’ve just outgrown boybands. Yeah, right.

There must be something to One Direction, seeing as they’re such a sensation right now. I may not be their biggest fan, but their video for “What Makes You Beautiful” is a perfect summer video. It was filmed on a sunny California beach, and there are beachy fashions galore.

Thandie Newton is one of those actresses who steadily works, and even occasionally snags some high-profile gigs (Mission Impossible II, ER, Crash), and yet, she never really crosses the threshold into A-list territory. Totally unfortunate, since she’s a great actress and, I mean, hello, she’s utterly gorgeous. Alas. She’s on the promo circuit as the star of Tyler Perry’s latest flick, embracing a simple, elegant and sexy aesthetic.

I personally have a love/hate relationship with shorts, but I love them as a part of this ensemble. Shorts can be really chic while still maintaining a generally casual aura, and I definitely think black shorts should be a spring/summer wardrobe staple. They are so versatile. Paired with a hot pink top and a blazer, you now have a playful but sophisticated look. Add some sleek leather sandals and you have an outfit that is cute and fun for either day or night.

Women’s fashion often borrows ideas from men’s fashion, but menswear-inspired looks are especially hot right now. And I’m feeling it. Last week, NYC had some gorgeous spring weather and I busted out all my sundresses. But this week, it cooled off again, and I was happy to throw on a pair of skinny cords and a button up shirt.

I have a shopping problem. It’s such a stereotypical girly thing, but I can’t help myself. I love to shop. The only problem with that is the fact that I have a very limited budget. I go through phases where I get really sick of the clothes I have, and I start thinking about all of the new pieces I’d like to buy. Angelina is so great at many things – doing a 180 from wild child to our generation’s Mother Theresa, adopting more children than you, snagging Brad Pitt, showing off her right leg, and generally being perfect. It must be so hard being better than everyone, but she makes it seem so easy. Turns out, she’s the queen of sleek and sexy monochromatic fashion too. Black and white are her preferred colors, and while those are not necessarily the most exciting or bold choices, they’re classic and versatile.

Love white blazers. They always look so elegant and effortless. One with black accoutrements works well with a pair of skinny black trousers. Trousers have become a trendy item as of late. Of course, corporate women have been rocking them for ages, but they’ve now become omnipresent on female celebrities walking red carpets. They’re a great option for when you want the comfort of pants, but something less casual than denim. Angelina layered a white tank under her blazer, which is hot, but you could really substitute any kind of top you want and still look great. Black peep-toes complete the ensemble, and voila, you’ve got a sophisticated but easy to assemble look that you could transition from the office to happy hour.

2012′s Color of the Year, according to the Pantone Color Institute, is a reddish orange color called Tangerine Tango. I’ve already expressed my love for all things orange, and Tangerine Tango is no exception. It’s a lively, vivid color that’s great on all types of clothing as well as cosmetics.
