I loathe group projects. I’m kind of cocky when it comes to doing school work, and when I’m put in a group I just think I should do the whole project myself. I don’t trust anyone else’s ideas or work. Mine are better. I know that sounds mean, but I once presented a project with a group in front of my advertising class, and the boy in my group had to say the word “kinetic”. Well he said “Connecticut”, and I decided I never want to work with people again.
So, we know I’m the control freak of the group. I have to be in charge and tell everyone what to do, and then just do it all myself. Well what about everyone else? Who’s who in your group project?

As college students, we do a lot of reading. And while I love to read, I don’t love how much I can spend on textbooks each semester. Which is why I’m always looking for the best deal when it comes to books — so imagine how excited I was when I discovered I could save money on my books for my English classes by reading the them online for free on sites like Litfy!
While there are other places online that you can download and read classic books for free, Lifty gets points for their colorful, modern layout. It’s also easy to find the book you want by searching by author name, title, or keyword. There are thousands of books currently on the site, and more are added each day! Read More »

I spent this past summer in New York City, and I met a lot of people. When I told them I went to school in Florida, they acted like I was an alien. I was no longer allowed to complain how hot it was during a HEAT WAVE because “Aren’t you used to the heat? You’re from FLORIDA!” So I’m going to clear up some rumors about going to school in Florida, and then I’m going to go back to lying on the beach.
Fiction: We don’t own pants.
Fact: We own pants.
I own lots of pants. I actually own more jeans than shorts. It gets chilly here in the winter, and sometimes I go awhile without shaving my legs. So I need pants to cover up that mess.

At the time, I took high school way too seriously. If I could visit my 16-year-old self in a time machine, I would promptly slap her and tell her to calm down. Now I wish I could reverse the clock and have a million times more fun. Needless to say, I miss quite a few things from high school.
1. Minimal homework. Remember back in the day when 10 algebra problems was the perfect way for your teacher to ruin your weekend? Now remember that ridiculous lab report you have due in two days and cry a little.
2. No bills. Okay, maybe your parents asked for you to pay the extra $15 for unlimited texting, or maybe even your car insurance… But with no rent, no utilities, and no groceries to buy every weekend, life was so easy.

As a college newbie, it’s easy to get overly excited by the big world of themed parties. Although theme parties are supposed to be fun, they can get very stressful (and expensive) when you “have nothing to wear.” Instead of blowing money fast on expensive Legs Avenue costumes, there are specific items of clothing that can be tailored to any theme.
For this school year, you will need: A tight black American Apparel dress, a pack of white Hanes tank tops, fake glasses, and camo cargo pants.
The Little Black Dress. Definitely a college must-have. Not only can you wear the dress to a themeless party, you can manipulate the dress into accompanying a variety of themes. For a cops and robbers theme, put horizontal lines of white tape around the dress to make jail stripes. If you’re dressing up for a biker theme, wear the dress with chunky black boots and a bandana around your forehead. And if you’re dressing up as a sexy cat (every girl will do this at least once in her life) buy a cheap pair of cat ears and voila! You’re a black cat.
White Tank Tops. This will be the best $5 you’ll ever spend. If you’re going to a jungle themed party, strategically cut slits in the tank to 1) show off your cleavage and 2) make it look like you were attacked by a lion. If you’re going to a highlighter party wear one of these tanks; they’re so inexpensive you won’t care when they get covered in neon paint. Same goes for a foam party, but take into consideration that your shirt will become see-thru…so wear a bikini top underneath the tank.

As mentioned in previous posts, I love Halloween and everything about it. From being scared straight, to mocking the horrible fake blood in haunted houses, it’s the most magical time of the year. Plus, it’s the one time of year I can watch Halloweentown multiple times a day (which is exactly what I plan on doing today…judgement free zone).
But, because Halloween falls on Monday this year, my usual late night party escapades were moved to this past weekend. Leaving me with a bunch of left over pumpkin beer and candy for actual Halloween (I know…rough life). And, since I live in the hood I’m refusing to participate in doling out candy, no way am I getting a “poisoned apple” on my favorite day of the year. I really just want to eat all of the left over candy by myself.
In celebration of this horribly haunted night here are my favorite things about Halloween… Read More »

When I began my freshman year of college, I was overwhelmed to say the least. I was overwhelmed from meeting so many new people, overwhelmed by how sinfully delicious the late night food scene was, and overwhelmed by the workload. All of the sudden, I was getting numerous weeknight texts from people (whose names I didn’t even remember putting into my phone) about amazing parties. And I went, even though I still had hundreds of pages of reading to do for the next day! (Sidenote: scheduling classes for Friday is a rookie mistake. You will never go to these.) But then, as my grades began slipping, a revolutionary thought occurred to me: maybe I don’t have to do all of the readings! But how does an overwhelmed college freshman know when they do or don’t have to do the assigned readings?

It’s finally here: Halloweekend 2011. And though many choose to witty, creative or innovative with their costumes (like building a fully-functioning digital camera costume), most choose to simply…wear less. But Nicole Richie is not okay with that option. Read More »
