The CollegeCandy team is super excited to present its brand new look! After months of planning and designing, we couldn’t be happier with way the new site turned out. And we get it. Sometimes change is scary. We all cringe every time Facebook tells you have a month left with the current layout before they drastically change your stalker platform yet again. We want to make this transition as smooth as possible for you. If you’re not quite ready for the new homepage with all its bells and whistles, go ahead and click on the ‘Blog View’ tab in the navigation bar.

For those of you ready to embrace the new change, we’ve put together a little how-t0 navigate the new site guide to walk you through all of the basic changes. The first question we generally receive is, “Where do I look first?” This answer depends on what you feel like reading! Let’s start with the left column:

This column may look a lot different from the blog view you’re used to on the old site, but it works exactly the same way. Every story we write that day will filter down that column in chronological order. This is where to look for breaking news and the latest trending topics! Click on the ‘More Stories’ button at the bottom for the full blog roll. Below this you will find a fun, new ‘Who Wore It Best’ reader poll.

This is your chance to take part in the content generated on the site. Vote on which celebrity pulled of the look with more style, and see what the rest of our readers thought instantly! If you then look to the middle column, you’ll see a brand new rotating story marquee:

This column is your go-to destination for the most popular stories on the site. The rotating marquee includes stories curated by the CollegeCandy editors in order to give you the best of what’s happening on our site each week. Our favorite stories and top headlines from will live here for you to access easily. Below that lives our ‘Top Stories’ section. This area is actually selected by YOU! These articles have had the most views on our site–reader favorites so to speak. If you want great tips on all things college girl related, this is your destination!

Friday Night Fashion
She’s the girl with the amazing wardrobe, perfect accessories, ingenious style and a closet you just want to roll around in. Everyone knows her, but we want her. And not just for our own selfish reasons (though the CollegeCandy editors will be running our own weekend looks past her discerning eye on the reg). We want someone who knows the ins and outs of fashion trends to produce a video outlining the perfect Friday night looks so all the CC readers can peek in on a true fashionista.

Weekly News, College Candy Style
Fancy yourself a news anchor of sorts? Got a clever sidekick looking to add in their two-cents? We’re looking to compile the week’s best headlines– everything from actual news, to just-for-fun items, to WTF standouts– while keepin’ it real with a bit of humor and lightheartedness.

Rules*

1. Pick the video category you want to try out for, and then come up with three original ideas for future episodes you’d like to run and/or ways you could make your videos unique. We’re looking for ideas that will spark conversation among our readers, so don’t be afraid to take on controversial topics or show off your big personality.

2. Make a video! In 60 seconds introduce yourself and tell us why you’d be the perfect new host for a CC video. If the video you’re trying out for includes a co-host, make sure to get them in there, too! Then post it on YouTube.

3. Send an email to editor[at]collegecandy[dot]com introducing yourself, concisely explaining your ideas and don’t forget to include a link to your video on YouTube. (We don’t want to miss your pretty faces!).

I graduated college with a degree in Secondary Education. Yes, at some point (probably after 12 games of beer pong) I thought it would be a good idea to spend my life with high school brats. You can imagine why that didn’t pan out for me…. After doin’ the whole graduation thang (for which I was horribly hungover and still wearing my outfit from the night before), I did what any lost/confused/depressed 22-year-old girl would do: I packed up all my stuff and moved to New York City to pursue my dream of writing.

My parents didn’t support it and, unlike the rest of my friends, refused to support me. But I didn’t let that stop me. I knew I would forever regret it if I didn’t at least try. The whole thing was crazy; I was moving to the most expensive city on earth with no job, no plan and no money. But the fear of failing (and having to prove my parents right) fueled me, and a mere 2 months later, I’d landed a job.

And not just any job. An amazing job.
I was hired right here at CollegeCandy.

For the past three years I’ve spent my days working with the most phenomenal college writers, producing the most phenomenal college content. My job requires me to read gossip blogs, to watch horrible reality TV and to share graphic details of my cursed dating life. It’s insane that someone has been paying me to have so much fun, especially when the rest of my friends work tirelessly for ungrateful bosses doing mind-numbing work.

But now it’s time for me to move on; to take the skills I’ve acquired and try something totally new and different. To put my passions into a new company in a new position. And so today is my last day as the Editor in Chief of CollegeCandy.

I am incredibly grateful for the time I’ve spent here (despite the many commenters calling me a whore, a slut, an insensitive a-hole, and a whole lot of other things I’d rather not list), not only because every day was an exciting new adventure, but for the many life-altering lessons I’ve learned. So taking a cue from Oprah, I’m going to use my last post to impart some great wisdom on you all. Below, the 4 biggest lessons I’ve learned at CollegeCandy:

1. Guys don’t like dating girls who share their dating stories online. At least that’s the explanation I give to my parents when they ask me, yet again, why I’m not dating anyone. But there’s definitely some truth to it. If I had a dollar for every guy who’s ever asked me if I’m going to “write about this” when the date is over, well, I wouldn’t need to go on dates with loser guys just for a free meal.

2. People will hate you, no matter what. There is not a day that goes by here in CC HQ when we don’t wonder what the eff our readers are thinking. We write about casual sex, people hate us. We write about monogamous sex, people hate us. They tell us we need to be more serious, then they get mad at us for trying too hard to be serious. Hell, we even pissed people off talking about BIKINI WAXES. But the truth is – and this goes for life, too! – the angry people always speak louder. For every person who tells us we’re going to “burn in hell,” there are others who are chuckling at their computer screens or nodding their heads in agreement. And for every person who finds me loud and obnoxious, there are plenty who find me charming, loyal and effing hilarious. I choose to think about those people. F**k everyone else.

3. Passion is the key to happiness. Look, I’m a blogger and blogging is one of those industries that pays, well, sh*t. While my Investment Banking friends and lawyer friends take exotic vacations and go on massive Bloomingdale’s shopping sprees, I go spray tanning (only when it’s $10 on Sundays) and buy the bulk of my clothes at Target. It’s hard sometimes and downright stressful at others (like when my bills come in), but I’ve learned that I wouldn’t want it any other way. Because those lawyers and bankers hate waking up every day. They hate having to work until 10pm at night. They have to take vacations so they can get away from whatever crappy ass work keeps piling up on their crappy ass desks. And me? I LOVE what I do. I look forward to it. I think about it all the time and miss it when I’m away. Can I buy the Marc Jacobs bag I’ve been drooling over for 3 years? No, but I’d rather tote my 6-year-old Longchamp to my awesome job than do the Trail of Tears to an office I hate every day. For the rest of my life.

4. Going to work hungover is the worst thing on earth. Yeah, it took me a few tries (and barfing in a trash can under my desk) to learn this one, but now I know. And if I am ever tempted by $1 beers at my neighborhood bar, I’ve got the garbage can under my desk as a constant reminder.

So yeah. That’s that. I wish you all the best of luck in everything you do. Take some risks. Try something new. Don’t give up on your goals before you have a chance to try to achieve them. Keep reading CollegeCandy. And don’t drink the Jungle Juice.

WELCOME TO OUR BIRTHDAY PARTY!

We’re officially four years old and we couldn’t be happier.  Over the past four years we’ve gone from a teeny-tiny little blog struggling to get visitors to becoming the LARGEST blog out there for college women. We’ve all been there: repeatedly refreshing our Facebook news feed and being disappointed when there is just nothing new and interesting being published from our own social network. Every new article on College Candy, YourTango, Lemondrop, PopEater and College Fashion has already been thoroughly read.  You’re bored. But you wouldn’t be if you had Twitter.

In case you aren’t one of the 190 million users already flying around the Twitterverse, you have been missing out. For some reason, this simple social media platform offers so much than any other does – all within 140 characters! And if you follow the right people, your feed will never be hungry for more again.

Word vomit. Maybe no one cares what colorful salad you ate for lunch or what funny conversation you overheard in the quad, but Twitter is the place to say it without consequence. Tweet as often as you’d like – seriously – without worrying what your entire social network would think if you start to overshare.

Celebrity word vomit. You care what colorful salad Lauren Conrad ate for lunch and what funny conversation Neil Patrick Harris spurred on set, and Twitter lets you follow your favorite celebrities up close. Currently, Lady Gaga reigns as queen of the Twitterverse, but when it comes to celebrity word vomit, the Biebs is a bit bulimic. Baby blue checkmarks mark their official Twitter accounts, so you know you aren’t following a fraud!

Hover the headlines. If you read your emails on the way to class and drink your coffee on the run, you might not always have time to stay up-to-date on current events. Just follow your local news stations for weather forecasts and traffic updates, and browse headlines from CBS, NBC, CNN and practically every other station and paper to date. At least we can still stay tuned with Larry King after he retires from the airwaves!

Be branded. Everybody’s business is on Twitter – literally. From finding free food on campus to saving on Vegas vacations, follow your favorite brands for up-to-date savings and new deals. Even better for us college students: follow your ideal employers, more and more are Tweeting about job opportunities. This will not only give you a better perspective on the company and its latest endeavors, but it can also help you hear about openings right away.
