There was an equally awesome/puzzling interview with Fergie (she looks great, poses in yoga moves and has dachshunds). The gift guide contained about 70% of my Christmas list (srsly, check out the Smashbox brushes on p. 100). There were tons of adorable mini skirts, and a ridiculous article where two guys keep diaries for 10 days about everything that goes through their minds. Spoiler alert: These guys think about sex a lot. These guys also happen to write exactly like Cosmo staffers. Hmm…

The crown jewel of the entire issue, though, had to be “Hidden Secrets His Hug Reveals.” Apparently, a hug can mean more than “not just a handshake, not quite a kiss.” Enjoy what Cosmo has to say about:

The Sneak Attack

Cosmo says: If he encircles you from behind, he’s totes “blanketing your body” with his love. Unless he does it all the time—then he’s too much of a pansy to hug you from the front.

Kari says: He better have highly recognizable cologne, because if an unknown dude suddenly wraps his arms around my chest, he’s getting a sample of that self-defense course my sorority held. Other than that, IDK about this “sense of oneness” that you’re going on about, Cosmo. I normally equate those three little words with meaningful eye contact and slow dancing non-ironically to “Forever young”…

The Rub

Cosmo Says: “You can’t see your back,” so rubbing it means he wants to nurture and protect you. Also, rubbing is sexual! So don’t be alarmed if he tries to get frisky. Or, he’s just doing it because he’s sad, can’t verbalize it, and wants you to rub his back (Awww).

Kari Says: Actually, I can see my back, thanks to strategically placed mirrors I use to straighten this one crazy piece of hair at the back of my head… Anyways, whenever I get a back rub, it’s usually because I explicitly asked for it, but my second assumption would definitely be horniness. And I’m not sure how to differentiate between the varieties of back rubbing (counterclockwise if he’s horny? Above the 5^th vertebrae if he’s nurturing), but for future reference, I’ll try to make sure he doesn’t look sad while he’s doing it.

The Pat

Cosmo Says: A) he’s not into you B) he’s mad at you or C) he’s encouraging you. Or maybe D) he just isn’t into PDA or E) he’s on his iPhone.

Kari Says: Thanks, Cosmo for narrowing that one down. If I was left to my own devices I probably would have thought for days about what his “pat” meant. In all seriousness though, the only semblance of rationality I can take away from this analysis is that if you don’t know him that well, pat = bad. If he’s your 5 star chick (or whatever the male equivalent of that is) pat = neutral…or ADD.

The Waist Wrap

Cosmo Says: No surprise here! Homeboy wants to knock boots. Pronto. Oh, and if he touches his forehead to yours, he wants to “merge his thoughts with yours.” Keeper!

Kari Says: If a guy casually hugs you around the waist (as most men do, considering they’re probably taller than you), count to ten before you whip out the condoms. If there is any hip gyration involved in the hug, then yes, Cosmo, you are right on track.

Alright ladies, what’s your fave hugging style? Do you think that guys go home after Beat the Clock and intently discuss their elbow placement during your embrace? Yea, me neither…

Oh, if only I could gather the courage to rob a bank. Sigh.

Luckily there were also some ads for the fall’s amazing new perfumes that don’t require me to go all Dark Knight on a neighborhood bank!  No, they aren’t exceptionally cheap, but they are from great designers and smell wonderful. And they last forever, so they really aren’t that expensive in the long run. Besides, it’s about time I accept the reality that it’s nearly fall and put away my “Instant Vacation” perfume.

The new fall scents below are so delicious (and their bottles so adorable!) that the transition into fall will be an easy one. You might even start counting down to it.

Marc Jacobs – Lola: Marc Jacob’s Daisy perfume bottle is so pretty it almost doesn’t matter what delicious scent is inside, and the same can be said for his new perfume, Lola.  At first I thought it was a bit over-the-top, but on the right girl it can be simply lovely.  The notes include pear, grapefruit, rose, fuchsia, and geranium.  Right now it is exclusive to Bloomingdales, and is between $65 and $85.  It smells so good and will look so pretty on my dresser that I’m considering the hour-long drive to my nearest Bloomies.

Dolce & Gabanna – 1, 3, 6, 10, and 18.  What happened to the missing numbers, I don’t know, but these five new perfumes from D&G are each represented by a celeb, like Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer.  They are made for men and women and while their bottles may not be something to fawn over, they are clean and simple.  Vogue provided samples of 3 (L’Imperatrice) and 18 (La Lune).  3 was light and florally and 18 was a bit muskier and heavier. Clearly there is something for everyone. The fragrances will be available in September, at which point I might have to invest in a little #3.

Michael Kors – Very Hollywood: The bottle is the epitome of cute and very reminiscent of Elle Woods.  The scent includes notes of jasmine, raspberry, and mandarin, so it seems to be the perfect scent for those of you rocking the fruity summer sprays from Victoria’s Secret.  The perfume also has its own sparkly website displaying a whole slew of other products, including a scented pen.  Take a blue book with that thing and your prof will have no choice but to slap an “A” on that badboy.

Now all I have to do is decide which perfume smells the best…or which will make the best decoration in my new apartment.

OMG. Drooling.

While walking to the gym the other day, I found myself walking behind a group of boys en route to the bar for some afternoon drinking. Well, I assume that was where they were heading. I didn’t hear much of what they were saying after I noticed one of them was wearing a pair of Sevens that hugged his butt just right and lay perfectly atop his pair of vintage-inspired sneakers.

I was so caught up in my imagination (read: those jeans piled up on my floor) that I didn’t notice when the boys stopped for a red light…and I walked right into them. If that wasn’t embarrassing enough, I literally had drool dripping down my chin.

What can I say? There are just some things I can’t resist, and a hot pair of jeans is one of them. Everyone has their vice, so this week I asked the CollegeCandy writers to share what makes them weak in the knees. What’s your weakness?

Alex – Lakehead University: I can’t resist a pair of thick, black glasses and a great smile. I like happy nerds.

Sara C – Fordham: I love a man in a suit. There’s something about a clean-pressed shirt and tie that makes me want to rip all the clothes right off!

Norah – Drake University: Intelligence – and an Irish accent. Irresistible.

Leah – Ryerson University: I’m a sucker for a guy who can play guitar and sing.

Kathryn – University of Wisconsin-Madison: Piercing blue eyes and really long eyelashes. Guys always seem to luck out and get naturally long lashes while girls try every mascara under the sun to get that extra “oomph.”

Liza M – Minnesota: Nothing is better than a guy who smells good! Bonus points if he’s wearing Aqua De Gio instead of Axe.

Ness – Sheridan: Sex eyes.

Katie – Michigan State University: Styled hair.  Not gelled or lame crap like that, but cut and styled…like, Asian style.  Hell, I might as well just say, “If they’re Asian, I can’t resist them.”

Lauren H – The New School: Ok, it’s cheesy, but a great smile just does it for me the way nothing else can. Not a half-hearted smile, but a real “I’m happy to see you” smile puts me all a-flutter.

Kari – FSU: Mouth watering kisses… I love swooning!

Cristina – Michigan State: BROWN EYES.  If it’s a certain shade of brown eyes, I stop breathing for a few minutes.  In a good way.

Sarabeth – University of Texas: A good set of v-lines. *drool*

Marisa – Wesleyan University – I have a thing for guys with thick, dark hair. Nothing hotter than that!

Kelly- Simmons College: Strong arms are my weakness.

Donyae – University of Maryland: Tattoos and piercings. That’s two, really, but they kinda go hand in hand don’t they? And the crazier they are the better.

Erica – Kent State: I LOVE abnormally tall guys (think 6’2″ & taller).  I am just like, instantly attracted to them.

Carrie – Duke: I love when a guy sports a simple, white T-shirt. (And if he happens to pair the look with shaggy brown hair and toned arms, that won’t hurt either.)

Lena Chen – Harvard: Good taste in restaurants. I like men with discerning tongues!

K – GW: This may sound weird, but I always notice a guy’s voice and the way they talk, I think it says a lot about a person (I don’t just mean accent, however an Aussie accent and you are cordially invited to my bedroom).

Carly – Grinnell: If he smells really good, I’m done for. (Un)fortunately, this doesn’t happen very often.

Abby – Syracuse University: A backwards hat. I think it’s the Midwestern, country girl in me…

Maddie – Tufts: Facial hair when it’s not too short, not too long. The perfect amount of scruff.

No, it’s not his lunch on his breath that you’re sniffing, but his cologne. Thanks to our friends at Burger King, your man can now smell like his favorite fast-food sandwich with help from their newly released scent, Flame. It’s described by the BK cologne website Fire Meets Desire as “the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat.” Because nothing says “I wanna treat you like a princess” like smelling like a $2.39 pile of grease. Flame will be sold on the Fire Meets Desire website as well as at New York City-based retailer, Ricky’s, for a mere $4 a spray-bottle.

I’m not quite sure why the Burger King himself (who, by the way, looks like the result of an illegitimate mating between Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne and Flava Flav) appears on the website reclining nude in front of a fire with just a fur blanket. Seeing that made me feel as though I’d just rubbed my eyes with horseradish. And is it just me, or have there been a lot of unorthodox colognes being released on the market lately? Next up: Valentino’s Eau du Public Transportation.

That being said, if the sweet aroma of the Whopper does send tingles down your spine, this is just the gift for you. After all, it’s not that strange to want to combine food and sex. Burger King just may be onto something with this food-scented body spray. As my friend said, if nothing else, it gives a new meaning to the term “special sauce.”

I know what you’re thinking: how did they capture the distinctive smell of public-bathroom-disinfectant and Natty Light with just a pinch of mildew? And who on earth would ever wear that? Just like we are always wondering what guys are thinking (which is usually sex, boobs, or sex), guys want to know what’s on our minds. What do we want? What do we like? How do you like your men: natural scent or enhanced by a spray of cologne?

Tom Ford, the wunderkind designer who saved Gucci from going bankrupt way back when, is credited as being one of the most influential fashion gods of the last decade. He’s done a lot of things, including becoming creative director of Yves Saint Laurent a few years ago, and being named best International Designer at the first VH1/Vogue Awards in New York in 2000.

He claims to sleep about 3 hours a night, is quoted as saying things like, “The YSL (Yves Saint Laurent) woman might tie her boyfriend up and drip hot wax on him before they have sex, for instance. The Gucci woman is just going to have sex”, and originally went to school to be an actor.

Oh yeah, he also sells perfume by photographing it in between a naked woman’s thighs.

Deciding that more dudes would buy his new Tom Ford For Men (creative name choice, there) cologne if it was somehow attached to a nude, glistening female form, Ford choose to push the envelope of taste in his new ad campaign.

If you’re old enough to see the ads, and don’t mind feeling vaguely creepy and voyeuristic, you can catch glimpses of the cologne pushed between naked cleavage and scarcely covering a bare vajayjay.

I think it’s pretty damn tacky, and want to say that slutty, tasteless advertising won’t get people to buy his scent…but who am I kidding?
