Eva Longoria Is Radiant in Orange [Celebrity Chic on the Cheap]

Eva Longoria is consistently on-point when it comes to taking fashion risks. She never fails to incorporate the latest trends into her wardrobe, while never looking tacky or try-hard. Whether she’s at an event or running errands, you won’t catch her looking anything other than polished, vibrant, and totally in vogue.

white shirt – JC Penney, $18//orange jeans – Express, $48.93//brown tote – Kohl’s, $32.40//sandals – Zappos, $40.00

It doesn’t look like colored denim is on the way out any time soon, so if you’ve been waffling on whether or not to indulge, I would encourage you to go for it. This orange pair is gorgeous – bold without being gaudy, and would complement a variety of colors (greys, blues, purples/dark reds), but if all else fails, a crisp white button down is always a great choice. A warm bright tote provides a lovely contrast to the orange, and silver shoes are neutral without being dull. This would be a fab outfit for brunch or casual Friday if you work in an office.

Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Zoe Saldana is Bold in Blue

Zoe Saldana is so fierce. I love that she’s kind of taken over Angelina Jolie’s role as the default female badass action star, while still embracing her femininity. Not only that, she seems refreshingly blunt and sincere in interviews. She has a great sense of style as well – she can be daring and sexy on the red carpet, and really relaxed, but still visually striking on the streets. Read More »

Budget Stylista: Color Me Bad…On the Bottom!

For the last few months, I’ve seen a pair of BRIGHT blue jeans staring at me through the window of Intermix on my walk to and from Starbucks, yoga, dinner, etc. Paired with what I can only imagine is a top that costs more than my rent, I keep thinking that they are pretty C to the U-T-E. I’m always tempted to go in and try them on, but just as I’m about to, my inner dialogue goes a little something like this:

“Of course they look cute on a tall and skinny mannequin. But you Jill, are not a tall and skinny mannequin. You, in those blue pants would look less like a mannequin and more like… a Smurf. And not one of those cute little Smurfs with their cute little legs and white little hats that a 3 year old would want to see in 3D but a Smurf with really big, bright blue thighs. But then again they are so cute. But is it silly to spend $150 on a pair of pants that may or may not make me look like a Smurf and may or may not be out of style in like 4 days?” Read More »

8 Under $20: Turquoise – Spring’s IT Color

If Punxsutawney Phil was correct this year, we now only have 3 more weeks of winter, which means we can soon wash away those winter blues and bust out those spring styles.  This year, Pantone’s top color will be turquoise, which is not only a fun, bright color that can be mixed with everything from neutrals to browns to other brights, but it looks great on nearly everyone.

And with Spring Break comin’ quick, now is the perfect time to nab some turquoise!

Here are some great choices under 20 buckaroos that’ll perfectly highlight spring’s most popular hue. Read More »

8 Under $20: Mandee

20Dollars.preview

There’s nothing that puts a smile on my face like finding a fantastic bargain, and since we all wanna look good in a crappy economy, finding those deals is even more important these days.  Each week I’ll feature one store/website where you can find eight A-dorable items for under $20 (not too shabby, right?).

This week I’m featuring Mandee.  While some of their stuff admittedly looks like it costs under $20, it’s a great place to find cute basics, cheap denim, and certain trendy pieces that probably won’t last more than one season (so paying under $20 is perfect).  Another bonus: they often have good sales that make their stuff even more of a bargain.

Summer’s more than halfway over and school will be back in session before we know it, but there’s still plenty of warm weather to be had (and hey, you can usually utilize some of your cute summer clothes for those early days of fall semester) which means it’s not too late to buy halters, flip flops, shorts or skirts, especially when you can find ‘em this cheap. Love Em or Hate Em: Bright Jeans

purple.jpgred-jeans.jpgblue.jpg

I opened my closet today to grab a pair of jeans and noticed something: all of my jeans look exactly the same. Ok, maybe not exactly – different lengths, different pockets, slightly different legs – but for the most part, my jeans are all the freaking same.

14 pairs of dark blue denim.

I love all 14 pairs differently (some are for class, some are for weekends, some are to make my ass look so good guys can’t resist me), but I think I need somethin’ a little different. A little color, perhaps?

Colored denim is all over the place these days, but is it cute or totally lame? And if it is cute, can real people (not a size zero) really pull it off?

What do you think? Would you rock some bright red pantalones?
