5 Hot Color Trends for the Spring

I love colorful clothes. In fact, last year I had to perform a color intervention…on myself. My wardrobe had actually become too colorful, and I was seriously in need of some good neutral tones. Now, my closet is much more balanced and I’m careful to think about my wardrobe as a whole. But that doesn’t mean I’ve given up on color! I still love it. Which is why I love this article from our friends at College Fashion. They’ve brought us the hottest color trends for Spring 2012, along with great tips on how to incorporate them into your wardrobe. Check it out!

If there’s one question I get asked (as the resident beauty expert in my group of friends) it’s, “What colors can I wear during the day?” I’ve heard this question A LOT and my answer is always the same:

Style Idol: From The Hills to The City, Wonderful Whitney

whitney17.jpgMy style idol this week got her “start” on one of the most popular reality series on TV (The Hills) and now has her own reality show documenting her life in NYC (The City): Whitney Port. She’s worked for Teen Vogue; fashion PR firm, People’s Revolution; and recently started her own clothing line, Eve & A, so it’s safe to say this girl knows fashion.

And she uses that knowledge well.

What I love about Whitney’s style is that she’s not afraid to take risks; she mixes and matches trends and gives them her own personal take. She’s also a big fan of fun & flirty dresses and she’s not afraid to go for bright, over-the-top colors and prints. (Although, it’s not hard to look good when you are already blessed with perfect hair, flawless skin and zero percent body fat.) She does a great job of pairing “louder” accessories and/or shoes with simple frocks, and when it’s time to glam it up, she picks classic gowns with a modern edge, the perfect look for an early-twenties girl.

Adding to her personal wardrobe, no matter where Whitney is going or what she’s wearing she never overdoes it with her hair and makeup. She most often keeps her beautiful blonde locks loose and wavy, and her makeup always looks natural and beautiful. Whitney knows her stuff when it comes to looking great and is a Style Idol to young women everywhere. Read More »

Style Idol: From Knocked Up to Knock Out, Katherine Heigl

heigl10.jpg[Celebrities get paid to look good and serve as a style guide to all us common folk, and part of looking good is flaunting their totally awesome fashion sense. Each week, I will be highlighting my Style Idol of the week: a celebrity who consistently shows keen fashion sense and whose closet I would raid in a heartbeat.

Of course, no celebs are immune to the occasional “what the hell were they thinking?” moment, but for the most part, these celebs look foxy and fabulous and inspire us all to do the same.]

Donning scrubs on her TV show, Grey’s Anatomy, Katherine Heigl is far from a fashionista. Off the set, though, she’s got a great, easy style that always looks polished (to go with that nice polished rock she’s got on her finger).

Katherine isn’t a big risk-taker or a trend-setter when it comes to fashion, but she knows how to put together an ensemble that highlights her curvaceous body without going over-the-top on the sexy factor. Add that with her magical ability to mix prints and colors and you’ve got yourself one fashionable lady. She’s often photographed around L.A. in adorable sweaters, flats and jeans, but when she hits the red carpet, she brings out the va-va-voom and plays up her blonde bombshell status with curve hugging, classically glamorous gowns. There is no need for a little lift or tuck in her wardrobe; this girl has got it going on. Read More »

picture-2.jpg

Save your money and forget Lasik! Glasses are now so chic that those who originally considered themselves “blessed” with perfect vision drool over their blind companions’ stylish eyewear. If you want to embrace this trend but unfortunately have no prescription for glasses, don’t worry! You can destroy your eyesight simply by staring directly at the sun for ten minutes each day.

Ok, so I’m just kidding. But if you wish you could wear glasses, wish no more. This fall, fake reading glasses are all the rage. The Michael Kors fall 2008 runway collection featured several faux eyeglass wearing models who looked HOT (as in sexy librarian hot). Glasses were also spotted in several other runway shows, including Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo.

If you’re going to purchase a pair of glasses (fake or prescription), it is important to find the right shape and color for your face. Generally, you should buy glasses with a shape in contrast to that of your face. If you don’t know what your face shape is, or what shape glasses would flatter your face, click here for a simple guide.

After you’ve figured out what shapes work for you, here are the top five eyeglass trends for fall. Hurry up and buy them before classes start. You want to look smart and studious when you meet your new professors! Read More »

Bold is Beautiful…When You Do it Right

reem-acra_fashion-show.JPG

Bright colors are all the rage this summer, and there are certainly some rockin’ choices out there. The difficulty exists in walking the fine line between looking fabulous and looking like Bozo the Clown. Here are a few hot tips to get you started.

1. Accessorize.

If you’re feeling a little unsure about bolds, sneak them into your closet in ways that aren’t so obvious. Try a hot pair of purple crocodile-print shoes, an eye-catching tangerine handbag, or a long necklace made of turquoise rock pieces. You can cash in on summer trends while slowly building up your confidence with color. Genius!

2. Get classic pieces.

Buying a pair of lime-green skinny jeans might sound like fun, but think about your ratio of cost to use. Though bolds really shine in the summer, they can (and should!) be worn during other seasons as well. Rather than going all out on an embellished fuchsia tube top that you’ll probably wear a max of three times, you might be better off with something like this, which you can wear over and over again (including in the fall and winter with leggings).
