We all freak out occasionally. Sometimes our roommates make a huge mess and don’t clean up after themselves, or maybe you’re freaking out because you have an eight-page research paper due tomorrow that you haven’t started (my current crisis). Within reason, freak outs are justified. It’s a way for us to get our anger out when we might literally implode if we don’t. Sometimes, however, people take it a little too far. If you’re a regular person, these extreme freak outs can be overlooked and forgotten. But, if you’re a celebrity, they will forever be remembered.

Here are the top five celebrity freak outs:

5. Britney Spears

We all know the story of her shaving her head. Need I say more?

4. Tom Cruise

After proclaiming that he was in love with Katie Holmes, Cruise proceeded to jump on Oprah’s couch. Oprah laughed but she was probably at least a little scared on the inside.

3. Christian Bale

After yelling and swearing violently at his director of photography on the set of Terminator Salvation, Bale later apologized. But, the audio tape of this incident will forever live on.

2. Alec Baldwin

I know he was upset and later apologized, but let me just say if my dad ever freaked out and said anything like this to me, I’d be really scared.

1. Chevy Chase

This is the most recent celebrity freak out. The Community star completely bashed the show’s writer in a violently angry voicemail.

What other celebrity freak outs have stood out for you? Tell us in the comments!

Back in November (that seems so long ago now that it’s 2012), NBC put its stellar comedy, Community, on an indefinite hiatus. Fans were outraged and many have been campaigning to “Save Community” since the announcement. The fate of the show has been extremely unclear since NBC execs are ignoring the situation.

Well, you’ve been waiting, and it’s finally happening! Community is officially coming back to your television this spring, according to NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt. Don’t get too excited though because there’s no news yet of a fourth season. While Community’s fanbase is dedicated, it doesn’t pull in the big numbers like NBC’s other shows. Community was pulled to make room for NBC favorite 30 Rock.

If you’ve ever seen the show, you know it’s smart and requires viewers to think. Why is this a problem? People just don’t like to think while they’re watching TV. It reminds me a lot of Arrested Development’s demise. That was the smartest show on television at the time, and its fans were die hard. But people didn’t get it so it got the boot. It seems the same thing is happening here with Community’s strange plots and alternate timelines.

With all of the drama surrounding the hiatus, I think fans will rally and bump up the ratings upon its return. Chuck fans saved their beloved characters from cancellation multiple times and got the show a goodbye season. The same could definitely happen here.

Do you watch Community? Do you think it will get renewed for another season?

Caitlin is a senior at the University of Alabama who has an obsession with cupcakes, coffee, and Harry Potter. She always has random fun facts on reserve and aspires to be a professional blogger, social media bug, and/or James Franco’s assistant. Follow her fabulous life @caitlincorsetti. You’re welcome!

Thank god it’s fall TV time, I was beyond done with summer reruns and all of those teasers they kept throwing at us. I think we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief that Snookie is back in our lives.

But with all of these new shows I’m finding myself sitting alone in front of the TV, rather than out with friends. Like most poor college students I don’t have money for any sort of DVR/Premium cable package. It’s basic cable or bust on my block. And although Hulu is a good alternative to staying in, it’s no DVR. So as a gift, and to make sure you are all in the same boat as me, here are my top ten must-have-in-my-dream-dvr-shows:

initiating the gallery...

[Sarabeth here, back with some more jams to add to your iTunes library! Every Wednesday, I'm bringing you music suggestions - could be something new, old, hugely popular or fairly unknown - to awesome-ify your collection.]

Spring time is officially here in Austin, TX, and with that comes South by Southwest, only the biggest music/movie/tech conference ever. I may not have a badge, but I do have a massive schedule of free parties and concerts for the next 7 days. And that includes a free show from one of my favorite bands, Matt and Kim!

So this week I figured I’d spread the joy and share my love of these two with their second (and my personal favorite) album, Grand.

About the Band:
Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino have been rocking out since 2004, with Matt on keyboards and Kim on drums. They have a DIY attitude towards their music and do just about everything when it comes to putting out their albums. If they sound familiar, it’s because they’ve been featured on Community, Entourage, and several commercials.

Top 3 Tracks:

Daylight

Good Ol’ Fashioned Nightmare

Don’t Slow Down

Why You Should Listen to It:
If this album doesn’t get you pumped for spring break, well then I don’t know what will. This album makes me want to drive with the windows rolled down with my Ray-Bans on and have a mini-jam session in traffic. The beats are awesome (rock on, Kim!), the sound is exhilarating, and the album as a whole is pretty dang sweet.

Want more awesome iPod suggestions? You got it!

This whole new clear schedule thing started off great! Catching up with friends, skating in the park with the boy, helping mom bake cookies for Christmas...it's been amazing. The perfect Martha Stewart holiday. But now, I'm ready to go back to the dorms and see all of my college friends.

Oh hello winter break, I’ve missed you!

This whole new ‘clear schedule thing’ started off great! I caught up (and drank with) old friends, I went skating in the park with the boy, and I even helped my mom bake cookies for Christmas (read: licked the bowl and ate a dozen cookie’s worth of dough). It was the kind of schedule that would make Martha Stewart proud…

But now, a mere 5 days in, I’m bored. I’ve already tried curling up on the couch with a good book, but I kept falling asleep. I’m too broke to go shopping. I’m sick of my siblings. And worst of all, there’s NOTHING NEW ON TV. Grrr.

So what’s a girl to do with three weeks to go until she can pack her bags and head back to campus? Catch up on some good old TV shows!

If you’ve got time to kill and don’t feel like partaking in the family Scrabble nights, here are 6 shows (some current that you should be watching, some from the past that you missed out on and some classics that everyone needs to watch) you should dedicate yourself to this break.

Brace yourselves, I’m about to outline the next five days’ worth of what to watch, what to TiVo, and what to skip altogether. Oh, and all new shows are linked to their previews so you can decide for yourself!

Good luck. And thank god for Hulu.

Running Wilde (Fox) New Show Alert!
It’s about time for a cop show outside of NY/Miami/LA. And who needs cops more than Detroit? This is the perfect option to fill the void left by the original Law and Order. <Moment of silence>

Wednesday, September 22

Tom Selleck, for the win. If you’ve got nothing else to do than marvel at a glorious mustache and take in yet another cop drama, then by all means. But really, I’d advise just leaving a little earlier for the frat parties. Nothing you need to see here.

While some colleges have a quick one-day orientation or even a simple online registration, other colleges have week-long activities ranging from seminars and lectures to outdoor orienteering adventures. The goal of orientation is to make sure students feel at home on campus or, at least, well versed on where to go, whom to talk to, and what the school offers. Orientation is a way to make nervous first-years feel connected to their academic community of students.

I will never forget moving into my dorm during my first year orientation week being completely scared out of my mind. However, at Hollins, meeting people came easy. In fact, we were put into groups of six or seven students with a student advisor, who was a grade or two older than us, to spend the week with. We played ice-breaker games, talked about high school, and spent the days getting to know each other in the August heat. My student advisor, known as a Student Success Leader (SSL), was a quiet sophomore, English major (just like me). She helped my fellow group members put together our schedules, get to our seminars on time, and learn all about Hollins and its academics.

Although orientation went quickly, I never forgot how amazing my SSL was. She went out of her way to stay in contact with all of us first years, even leaving us goodie bags of finger puppets and Hello Kitty stickers. She always made herself available, and I couldn’t have thanked her more.

At the end of my first year, applications for the new program called Orientation Leaders were released. The application was simple, asking for information on my campus activities, my schedule, and ideas about community building. I then signed up for an interview with two or three other girls. During the interview, the Dean of Students asked questions to the other girls, snubbing me from the conversation.

Dean of Students, Patty O’Toole, and I have gone way back since the very beginning of my academic career at Hollins. She came to Hollins my first year, and I remember her telling my mom how excited she was to be at Hollins and to help all the students during a Parents event at Orientation. When she started to ignore me from the conversation, I knew immediately that I would be rejected from being an O-Team participant because of our run-ins in the past. And my gut instinct ended up being correct!

While other girls found out they made the O-Team program, I received nothing in my e-mail or through the mail. I was told that I would receive a message regardless if I made it or not, but I didn’t get anything. Everyone who applied for O-Team made it (or at least that I knew of, and keep in mind – Hollins is so small, word travels fast), except my friends and me. I didn’t understand why I would be passed upon. Here I was – an eager student ready to I repay the favor of my student advisor the year before with no Honor Court violations, and an active participant in my community – being turned down.

Obviously, since the Dean was responsible for handling (and fumbling through) many issues I had at the school, it was apparent that she kept me off so I wouldn’t share my story with the first years. Better to keep me away from them so as not to ruin the Hollins image. In fact, whenever Hollins and its image of being this sanctuary of sisterly love comes into perspective for what it really is, I have found that the university will do nearly anything to try and keep their image clean, even if they have to hide things and lie through their teeth to do so.

When my mom and I met with the President, we brought this up at as well. After reviewing my credentials with President Gray, she seemed to think it was a little strange that I wasn’t put on O-Team. Home for the summer, about a month after meeting with the President, I received a phone call from the Dean asking me if I was willing to put our differences aside to work as a team during orientation. If I was asked questions about being an O-Team leader to begin with, maybe the Dean would have known why (besides looking at my application) being a part of freshman orientation was important for me.

Although this story ended up having a somewhat happy ending – I got to participate as an O-Team leader and thoroughly enjoyed the orientation process – it was a hassle to go through. All of these unnecessary steps could have been prevented from the get-go. No one should have to go to the President for something as simple as being rightfully placed on a leadership team.

I may strongly dislike Hollins, but it doesn’t mean I have nothing positive to share or give. In fact, after all the things I experienced first year, I came back and became one of the most involved students on campus. I sat on the Student Life council, I was the Guest Speakers Bureau chair for the Activity Board and brought four amazing speakers to campus, and I was an active member in the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance. With those activities as part of my schedule, there was no reason to ignore me for a role as an O-Team leader. The Dean made a subjective decision, which was unprofessional and wrong when looking at the facts of what kind of student I am.

Just because I can’t stand the university, doesn’t mean I am unable of participating as a contributing community member. No one, not even the administration, is going to hold me back from being a part of the community. I refuse to let them because Hollins is my community too, even if the administration and the bulk of students like to make it feel as if it’s not.

I am never alone in college. Sure, I have the elevator to myself occasionally and sometimes my roommate is at class when I’m not, but usually there is always someone else nearby. This is drastically different from my high school experience.

Of course I would spend every high school moment from that morning bell—which seemed to ring earlier and earlier as my senior year wore on—to the final bell with my friends by my side. I was part of a bunch of different groups, all of which met after or before school and surrounded me with people. But at home, I had solitude.

With both my parents working and my brother off at college, I spent many nights doing homework, watching bad television and heating up leftovers all by myself. Some may think that would be lonely, but I really liked the peace and quiet.

It’s never quiet here. And sometimes I like it; with all the commotion, I haven’t had time to get homesick or have a culture shock freak out. There’s a feeling of community when I walk around campus and see someone I know or when I strike up a conversation with a stranger in the dining hall. Yet every once in awhile I realize… I never have a moment to myself.

I don’t sing anymore. No, I wasn’t a good singer, but I used to belt out lyrics while driving to school or doing some late-night studying with the radio on, my iPod providing a soundtrack for every occasion. Now, even when I’m sitting alone in my dorm room, I know anyone can walk by and hear me. When I’m walking alone around campus I know there is probably a person around the corner. And when I study in the library, I have to stop every three minutes to talk to a person who saw me and wanted to say hello.

In some ways I love that there are people always wanting to say hello. I’ve never been so friendly to so many people before, and I think some of them will actually become life-long friends, not just Orientation-buddies. But I also love the sound of silence, and there is precious little of that in college. Someone is always chatting loudly on her phone or blasting bad rap music from her car or playing the piano in the common room. Endless chatter, the bass of a car stereo and the notes of a musical instrument: this is my new soundtrack.

And soon I will learn to sing along with it, but for now I will start with just a tap of a foot, and maybe a hello in the library.

Listen up incoming freshmen: in a few weeks, you’re going to find yourself on a huge college campus full of more hook-up potential than you could ever dream. In the next few years, some of you will have long-term relationships, while many of you will engage in short-term hook-ups.

There are several types of college relationships that have an urban legend-esque feel to them: the sexy school girl and the married professor, the sexy school girl and the teaching assistant, and, of course, the sexy school girl and the resident assistant.

I have never hooked up with one of my RAs, but that’s because I’ve only ever had female RA’s. Still, I know plenty of people who have dabbled in these waters. I’m not here to condone or condemn the practice, because I’ve certainly had my fair share of regrettable trysts, but I am here to lay out some of the baggage that comes with such a hook up.

First of all, consider the fact that even inter-floor mating can lead to year-long awkwardness. If you fear the inevitable walk of shame, imagine the anxiety that comes with the chance that one of your floormates sees you leaving the RA’s room in last night’s bar clothes. Even if you survive the W.O.S, you risk the rumors and reputation — people are more apt to label someone “the girl that banged the RA” than “the chick who nailed whatshisname in 5B.” Even worse, if you can’t handle the tension of a chance meeting on the elevator (or on the way to the showers), you are biting off more than you can chew with by shacking up with your RA.

Your RA is someone you will probably have to turn to throughout the year. He’ll be the one to let you into your room when you are locked out wearing only a towel. This means he also has the master key to your room (not implying anything, just saying). He’s also someone who will have to keep tabs on you throughout the year. He’ll be writing you up for dorm parties, open containers, and that hole in your wall that you forgot to fix before move-out day. This fact alone can open up a brand new can of worms in Relationship Land.

If he feels insecure about the hook-up, there’s a chance he goes on a power trip to get even. I’m not saying all RA’s are scumbags, but it’s a possibility. There’s also the possibility that you feel insecure, and blow things out of proportion: Is he writing me up because I never called him again? Yet another possibility is that you are overly confident: He won’t write me up, because I slipped him some poon, and end up getting yourself into trouble by thinking dorm rules don’t apply to you.

If you do get busted by your RA after having (or continuing to have) a relationship with him, it makes him doing his job more personal as well. Maybe he stops by to say hello and notices a box of Franzia on your desk on your “dry” floor. He puts his job first and makes you pour it out and writes you up. Do you really want any more emotions stacked on top of the pain of losing all of that perfectly good alcohol?

On the other hand, RA’s are people too. Many of them sign up to save money on housing– and I think saving money in college is something we can all relate to. I’ve known some really cool RA’s in the past, and some of them are so laid back, you don’t even realize that technically, they are in charge of the floor. If there is a real connection between you and your RA, who’s to say it can’t work out? Besides, he’ll most likely have a single (a rarity in dormland), so you won’t have to worry about a roommate barging in. In that case, I recommend having an adult conversation and weighing the pros and cons of pursuing your feelings, or even looking into swapping floors for future semesters. You might also want to find out if he has a reputation for seducing his advisees Van-Wilder-Style before you get in too deep.

In my experience (or my friends’ experiences, rather), the RA hookup is a bad idea. There are plenty of other fellas on campus to make regrets out of, so why make a mistake with someone who is pretty much in charge of your living quarters? Still, it’s always best to trust your intuition, and see where that takes you.

For the record, I also don’t advise going shot for shot in a foreign country with your orientation leader, but that’s a whole new set of wisdom.
