I’m going to be honest with you — my first thought after watching that Shopaholic film was ‘so this means if I got a credit card, I could have amazing clothes like that too?’
Definitely not the point, as every person I shared my revelation with was quick to point out. But what’s a shopaholic on a limited budget to do? Figure out how to do it on the cheap! I’ve rounded up some less expensive alternatives to those pricey stores we all love in hopes that we can look super trendy, without being super broke.

Since most of us won't get near those nasty tubs in the communal bathroom, I've got a few better ideas for relaxation...
October is a busy month. Between midterms and registration, and finding the perfect Halloween costume, things can get pretty crazy there for a while. But it’s important to remember to take a step back from it all for a while. Relax. Enjoy the little things. Relieve some stress.
Here’s how…
10. Indulge in some junk food. This probably isn’t the best advice, since eating your feelings isn’t exactly healthy, but chocolate cures all. At least for a little while. So just indulge for a little bit. Something sweet, or something salty, or something sweet and salty (chocolate covered pretzels…mmm…). Just a little pick me up. Besides, isn’t dark chocolate good for you anyway?
9. Dance it out. Yes, I am totally ripping off Grey’s Anatomy here, but the “twisted sisters” know what they’re talking about. Dancing is an excellent stress reliever and you don’t even have to have any rhythm whatsoever. (Trust me. I would know.) Just enjoy yourself. And relax.

Everyone’s got a vice, a bad habit, something they know they need to change. Unfortunately, everyone also has a million excuses why they just can’t do it. Not anymore. Every month we will be following a different CollegeCandy writer as she takes on a personal challenge. This month we’re following Kelly as she proves to her mom, and her wallet, that she can go one month sans shopping.
I GOT MY TAX RETURN! WOO! Thank goodness I have until May to figure out what I want to do with it.
This week has been 127 times better than last, shopping wise. I’ve been so busy that there hasn’t been much time to dig through F21′s new daily arrivals. Not shopping wise though, stress has been killing me. Exams, term papers, projects… I don’t even see my boyfriend anymore. And I live with him!
Not to mention that for the next five nights I’ll only be reachable at my place of employment, filling patrons with fajitas and margaritas on our newly opened outdoor patio. While I plan on making $$$ (and not spending any of it until next Monday), I can’t help but sighhh when I deliver sangria after sangria, and queso dip after queso dip, to groups of girls in the middle of the afternoon. That should be me! What this means is that when this challenge is over, I’ll need a big reward in the form of new sandals. Read More »

[There are some women out there that we just can’t get out of our minds. No, we aren’t switching teams - yet - but we do have some serious crushes on some pretty fierce females. These ladies are all special in their own right and we aren’t ashamed to tell the world we love them.]
It’s no secret that I have a soft spot for Aussies, and the lovely Isla Fisher is no exception. Even if she’s a lady.
While the Australian accent is always a turn-on, what really gets me weak in the knees is someone who can make me laugh…and matzoh ball soup.
Isla, then, is perfect for me. The woman has to have a sense of humor – she’s engaged to Sacha Baron Cohen, after all. And, after three years, she has successfully pulled a “Charlotte” and converted to Judaism for her man.
Oy vay.
But Isla was around long before she started celebrating Hanukkah with her guy. She was a child actor on popular Australian television shows way before she graced us with her presence alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. in Scooby Doo. Since then, she’s come a long way. Her role as the crazy sex fiend sister in Wedding Crashers won her a Breakthrough Performance award at the MTV Movie Awards and, more recently, she was in Definitely, Maybe and lent her voice to Horton Hears a Who.
A hot Australian who also does cartoons? Be still my heart.
Isla Fisher is as hot as her fiery red hair. In 2008 she was #61 on Maxim’s Hot 100. And despite being near naked in that little photo spread, the woman’s fashion sense is what gets me riled up. I’m jealous of all the fashion-forward outfits created for her character in Confessions of a Shopaholic, not that I could afford them. But what I can afford is Isla’s laid back style that’s easy to imitate (even on a starving student’s budget). Now if only I could get my hair that color…
Isla is living proof that you can have it all. She has a successful career, a fiance who she obviously hearts (she spent 3 years converting for him!), and an adorable daughter – not to mention she looks stunning while doing it all. I’m totally crushing on Isla Fisher.

Since her debut on the ridiculous reality series The Simple Life in 2003, Nicole Richie has been one of the most intriguing socialites to watch. Soon after entering the celebrity sphere, she was arrested for possession of heroin while driving with a suspended license. Three years later, she was detained for driving down a California highway in the wrong direction (high on Vicodin and marijuana… oops?) and slammed with a DUI.
Now, she is the mother of one (and expecting a second), the designer of a vintage jewelry line, and longtime girlfriend to Good Charlotte rocker, Joel Madden. With a loosely autobiographical novel under her belt and a small role in the recent hit movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Richie seems to have made it big.
Talk about a turnaround.
I love Nicole Richie, adopted daughter of crooner Lionel, because she defines transformation. Throughout the beginning seasons of The Simple Life, it’s safe to say that our girl Nicole was a hot mess. Appearing alongside BFF Paris Hilton with horrible highlights and making seriously unfortunate wardrobe choices, she landed a spot on Hollywood´s wild-child list where her reputation plummeted. As I was registering for classes this semester (my last semester of undergrad! Woo!), I discovered that although I’d already finished up all but one of my major and general ed requirements, I still needed to take a full semester’s worth of credits in order to have enough to graduate in May.
I was really excited that I’d finally be able to take classes that really interested me but weren’t necessarily part of my major. No more Stats! No more language!
I managed to find a few classes that seemed interesting, but unfortunately, my school doesn’t offer anything too out of the ordinary (read: cool or interesting). I know a lot of other schools offer really cool classes, which got me to thinking about what sorts of classes I wish would be offered in college. Read More »

Someone asked me what I am most excited about seeing in Confessions of a Shopaholic (in theaters today!). Are you kidding? That’s like asking a 13-year-old to pick a favorite Jonas Brothers’ song. Or her favorite Jonas Brother (gasp)!
Between the out-there fashion ensembles that stylist Patricia Field (you also know her work from the drool-worthy outfits we saw in SATC and the Devil Wear Prada) puts together, the adorable and relate-able Becky Bloomwood, and one of my girl crushes Isla Fisher (I mean her hubby is Sascha Baron Cohen, HELLO) I just can’t choose.
What I can confess however, is how much I love her black on black on black ensemble. She makes it look effortlessly classy, sexy and chic, whereas most all black ‘fits end up looking like they would fit in better on the set of Doubt (read: dowdy).
So here is this week’s Celebrity Chic on the Cheap: Confessions of a Budget-Aholic Read More »
