AT&T and CollegeCandy Are Giving Away a Free Palm Centro!

palm-centro-att-handset.jpgTired of your friends making fun of your Zack Morris phone? Sick of pressing buttons 3 times to get the letters you want for texting? Did you maybe drop your precious cell in a toilet last weekend and are too broke to buy a new one?

Then this contest is for you, my friend.

Our friends over at AT&T gave us a brand new Palm Centro to give away to one lucky CollegeCandy winner. This phone is awesome. It’s small enough to fit in your clutch, but with a full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth® capability, and infrared connectivity. You can email, Instant Messenger and Push-To-Talk with your friends, listen to AT&T Music and XM Radio, take pictures and record video, and stay up to date on all those important assignments.

Yeah, it’s the bomb.com. And it’s also easy to win. Here’s what you have to do:

Are you a member of CollegeCandy’s Facebook group? Well, you might want to be because the person who gets the most people to join the group will take home this great new phone. Just send your friends to join the group. When they join, have them leave a message on the wall that says “(Your name) sent me.” (So, if you are Brad Pitt, we want to marry you your friends would say “Brad Pitt sent me.”)

The person who sends the most will have themselves a brand spanking new phone courtesy of AT&T. You have until 5pm EST on Christmas day (December 25th, if you don’t know) to round up all your friends. We will announce the winner on CollegeCandy and send your phone on over.

(And just in case you don’t win this phone, AT&T has tons of other great phones you can take home for the holidays. Like the Samsung Propel or the Pantech Matrix, both only $79.99 with a a two-year agreement and after a $50 mail-in rebate. Put that on the wish list this year!)

Do You Blog? Do You Want $10,000?

comp.jpgYou felt like you have something to say to the world, so you started blogging. You may not be some famous writer for the New York Times, but you want your voice to be heard! You want to enlighten the masses! Make people laugh! Show everyone your perspective!

And your three best friends are the only people who read it.

But you don’t care; you’ll get there. And even if you don’t, you have so much fun blogging that you keep tip-tapping away…while thinking in the back of your mind that maybe – just maybe – there is a chance that this will somehow turn into a job after college.

Well, we can’t promise you that, but we did just get word that all those hours you log in documenting your life on your creatively titled website (I once had “LaurenIsFunny.com”….for real) could be worth $10,000 in college scholarships.

Yeah, you heard me.

CollegeScholarships.org is giving away a $10K blogger scholarship! To any college student with a blog. Even if you didn’t have a blog until just this second! Read More »

Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist: Soundtrack Review and Free iPod Giveaway!

nick_and_norahs_infinite_playlist.jpg

I’m sure you’ve seen the previews for the new movie “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” which comes out tonight. It’s based on a great teen fiction book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. The book chronicles the adventures of two teenagers, Nick and Norah, who meet by chance in a club and spend a crazy night together in New York City. All the events of the evening revolve around music, hence the title. Duh.

Since music is what links Nick and Norah, so much so that she even refers to him as her “musical soulmate,” the film has to have a wicked soundtrack. Read More »

Want a Free Pair of Chuck Taylors? What About a Trip to NY?

conversejouneyssh1.jpg

I am not a musical person. I can’t hit the beat on Guitar Hero and anyone who has ever heard me sing tries to block out the memory. But if you love the whole music thang (and are actually good at it) this may just be your lucky day.Converse and Journeys have paired up to bring you the “Get Out of the Garage” music contest! Basically, you can win a free trip to NYC for 4 days, 3 nights of free studio time to create and mix your own song!

Yeah, that’s right: record your own freaking song.

All you have to do is head to the mall and pick up a self-addressed envelope at any Journeys shoe store. Pop a recording of your jam into the envelope (only one song, ladies) and get that badboy in the mail. Not a fan of snail mail? Don’t feel like wasting precious gas goin’ to the mall? No problemo; you can upload your song here. Easy as pie.

There will be a whole lot of judging, but Downtown Records will choose the top song . The winner will take the prize of a free trip to NYC for 4 days, 3 nights of free studio time to create and mix their own song.

The remaining 9 finalists will receive a pair of Converse shoes, a gift certificate from Converse, and prizing from Guitar Center to be determined. All songs submissions must be sent to Cornerstone for judging by September 15th.

Not a music fan? Have no fear. The people over at Converse/Get Out of the Garage love CC so much they have given us a prizepack to award to one lucky reader. After all, we can’t all be rockstars, but that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve cool sh*t. Read More »

CC’s ‘Live From Abbey Road’ Contest!

j-blunt.jpgJames Blunt. Love him or hate him, he certainly knows how to do two things: 1) bed hot models, and 2) write love songs that get said hot models to want to jump into said bed.

Live From Abbey Road, a show that begins its second season on Thursday, June 19th at 10pm E/P on the Sundance Channel, wants to give you a chance to do more than just see James Blunt (and a BUNCH of other awesome artists) in an intimate performance at a legendary setting — they want to give you a chance to WIN stuff. Win stuff while evoking the oh-so-heartfelt spirit of Blunt himself.

In honor of this new show (which features “36 top artists in 1 legendary setting” … awesome), we at CC have teamed up with the promoters of Live From Abbey Road and have decided to give away a cool-ass gift bag worth $180. How does a fateful reader such as yourself win such a bag? Well, originally you did it by  writing a love letter using only Blunt lyrics, but it seems that you  ladies aren’t that into love letters. It’s ok; we like it better when the boys write them for us, too. Read More »

Become CollegeCandy’s Secret Summer Intern!

intern.jpg

Ah yes, the Summer Internship.

You leave the comfy confines of your home to venture out into a new city, buy a bunch of hip outfits, secure housing, and then run full speed into a world of unpaid hours spent behind a computer or running errands in high heels. We’ve all been there. Hell, I was there for all four years of my college experience. Some of it was good (actually doing stuff that mattered), some of it was bad (lugging giant packages through a sweltering New York City), and some of it was just plain reDONKulous (buying a newspaper with my own money and then running into a random hair salon to deliver it to my boss because she couldn’t bare to read the stuff they had in the waiting room).

Are you currently living the life of a Summer Intern? If so, CollegeCandy wants you to be our spy in a new series of blogs called Diaries of a Summer Intern. We want you to blog once or twice a week about the trials and tribulations of working for (possibly) crazy people for little to no money. Do they send you on stupid errands? Make you pick up their dry cleaning? Refuse to learn you name? Do you feel a little Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada? If so, we want you to tell the world (all while keeping your identity a secret, of course).

Tell us why you should be our secret Summer Intern. Shoot me an email at Jess@collegecandy.com and get ready to show the world just how glamorous (or UNglamorous) the life of a summer intern can be.

Quickie: American Idol No Fun Without Sanjaya

0_61_011507_idol_czarnecka.jpg Yup. The juggernaut known as American Idol started up again last night, crash landing into the state of Philadelphia and finding more than enough weirdoes to go with the splashes of talent.

The 7th season will undoubtedly bring a whole new crop of talented-yet-strangely-un-marketable contestants (Remember Ruben? Taylor Hicks? Katharine McPhee? All dropped from their label), snide remarks from Simon, and a crapload of unnecessary tears.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it all before, but I could be tempted to watch agan…if someone Sanjaya-esque pops up. He may not have been able to sing or dress himself, but he sure knew how to make those 12-year-olds cry.

Speaking of crying, what about the dude who wrote that creepy stalker song for Paula?! Eesh. Someone get him a hobby

Direct Britney Spears Next Video!

britney spearsCalling all film majors! Think you know how Britney’s next video for “Piece of Me” should look? MTV wants you to direct it!

MTV’s “Britney Spears wants a Piece of You” contest kicks off on Monday and is calling for die-hard Britney fans to put together a video counterpart to the official video Brit shot this week. But what if you’ve never submitted anything to YouTube? (get with it, people!) It’s no problem.

To enter the contest all you have to do is download the MTV Video Remixer. Then you pick the shots you wants to use, mash them together and –viola!– you’ve got a submission! The video can be up to 3:34 in length and the winner will premiere on TRL on December 20th.

But you better get on it quick! Entries are due by December 14.

Having your video premiere on TRL is cool and all, but the true prize is having your video premiere before the official one. That won’t surface until January.

Britney Spears is lazy and slow? Shocking.

Be a Published NY Times Writer in College!

New York Times

We are all aware that there are a lot of people criticizing college students today. Whether we are called lazy and or entitled, it’s always something, it seems. Well, fortunately, the NY Times is giving college students all over the country the chance to respond.

The New York Times Magazine College Essay Contest website says that, “In the turbulent late ’60s and early ’70s, college campuses played a major role in the culture and politics of the era. Today, according to author and historian Rick Perlstein, colleges have lost their central place in the broader society and in the lives of undergraduates.” Read More »
