The History of Lyrics That Aren’t Lyrics [Video]

Sometimes the best parts of a song aren’t the meaningful lyrics or the soulful crooning, but rather the nonsensical words that an artist makes up for the chorus. The part of the song that you find yourself singing along to — even though you aren’t even sure what you’re singing.

OK Go Makes Awesome Music Videos [VIDEO]

I don’t know who is the mastermind behind the music videos for rock band, OK Go, but I want to shake his hand. After watching their treadmill video for Here It Goes Again over 20 times, I didn’t think they’d ever be able to follow it up with something nearly as awesome (without caution tape, that is). But these guys have done it again. And this one is even better.

Just watch it. You won’t be able to look away. Read More »

The Know: Sam Tsui Makes Musical Magic

Got something awesome everyone needs to know about? A really great local band? An awesome website? A product that truly changed your life? A great deal on spa services? Email your “The Know” ideas to Jill@collegecandy.com and I’ll pass them along to everyone right here, every week. Make your kindergarten teacher proud and share!

With no new Glee episodes for quite a while, this girl right here needs her glee club fix. It’s true; I’m a Gleek. And much like a drug, the sweet, sweet harmonies of Glee make me – er – high?

Wow, does that sound L-A-M-E.

Anyway, after stumbling upon my new BFF (who doesn’t even know I exist) Sam Tsui, I am more than content until Glee starts up again. This kid is amazing. At first watch (which was followed by about 100 more viewings), I thought this video was 6 boys who looked tremendously alike singing only the most awesome of songs (MJ Mashup is my personal fave).

And then I was all, “Wait a minute – hold the phone – they don’t just look like the same person, they are, like, TOTES the SAME person! Over and over and over again!” (Yes, I actually speak like that when talking to myself…) Read More »

The Baddest Romance [VIDEO]

Lady Gaga’s video for Bad Romance is hard to forget and impossible to top. Or is it? A few kids armed with a video camera and a little too much time on their hands (thanks to an extended winter break, I presume) remade the legendary video in all its weird and creepy glory. And, damn, they did it well.

Sure, the wardrobe budget was a little tighter in this home video (they replaced Alexander McQueen with a Walmart shopping bag), but even Gaga gave them props for their dedication to the original masterpiece.

Who knew a guy could make such a good Gaga?

We tip our hat to thee, Bad-Romance-Video-Kids. Way to use your time well instead of lying on the couch watching Law and Order: SVU marathons like the rest of us.

Jumping Rope Just Got a Whole Lot Cooler [VIDEO]

I’m not gonna lie – when my friend sent me a link to an 8-minute YouTube video last week I was less than thrilled. Was I going to take 8 precious minutes away from Facebook-stalking to watch some dumb video and then spend another 4 minutes feigning interest in it?

Out of friendly obligation, I pushed play. And it was seriously the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t look away; not even when I saw my Facebook tab blinking, informing me my FWB was FB-chatting me.

I haven’t jumped rope since my mom signed me up for Jump Rope For Heart in middle school (and even then I only did it to win a fluorescent pink water bottle with a bendy straw). It’s not the coolest sport in the world. In fact, until I saw this performance, I didn’t consider it a sport at all. But these girls (especially the little ones!) are true athletes. And what they can do with a couple pieces of rope is pretty effing insane.

Just watch and you’ll agree.

Stop Being Lazy and Start Making Music

We all know Americans are lazy. We have the highest obesity rate in the world and we’re more well-known for our fast food chains than anything else. Except maybe Paris Hilton…which is even more depressing.

But how can we convince people to live more active lives when we’re constantly bombarded with inventions and machines that make it so easy to do everything without doing anything? Perhaps we should be taking some tips from the Swedish. They’ve come up with a brilliant plan to get people to get off their lazy asses and onto the stairs.

By making them fun.

How cool is that? Just imagine how much more fun your life would be if they installed this in your city. You’d be like Beethoven…with a great ass.
