Wardrobe Wish List: Fragile Pull-On Pants

When it comes to many things in life, including fashion, I’m a fan of odd, quirky things that leave people asking questions. No, I’m not going to start wearing fairy wings like one of the girls on What Not To Wear, but I did pick up a pair of pants last week that totally fit the bill. They were a pair of skinny pants by Fragile I found at T.J. Maxx for seventeen bucks, but which retail for $29 (sweet!). Had they not been at T.J. Maxx, I never would have fallen in love, as they are typically sold at Hot Topic, a store I haven’t stepped into since my friend’s goth days in high school.

The pants look like jeans, but function somewhat like sweat pants in that you basically pull them on and button the single button at the top. They feature back pockets, faux front pockets, and no zipper, so you can imagine my surprise when I took them off the hanger and unbuttoned them in the dressing room to discover… pants that were not actually jeans. I tried them on anyway and loved how they looked. They are low rise, so you can avoid that weird baggy look around your danger zone and are stretchy to fit a broader range of body shapes (they come in letter sizes instead of number sizes – pants for all!). Makeup 101: Prepare for the Transition into Fall

makeup_berry_lips

Usually I hate when things happen ahead of season, like when Halloween stuff starts popping up in August, or when Christmas decorations are everywhere in September.  In general it is just plain wrong.  I don’t need a blow up outdoor Santa snow globe before Halloween has even passed.  Actually, I don’t need one of those at all.  Ever.

However, there’s one thing that I don’t mind arriving a wee bit early, and that’s next season’s makeup trends (or any fashion for that matter); it’s never too early to look into/play around with the new fall colors.

Now’s the time to get your makeup bag ready for fall and I’m here to help. You should be glad I’m not actually there with you, because I’d be trying on every lip gloss you got and curling my eyelashes instead of really helping. But I digress. I’ll tell you what to keep, what to toss, and what to buy for Back To School season.

You don’t have to do it right now (obviously), but just keep your eye out for the colors of fall and prepare yourself to part with the makeup of the summer. Read More »

10 Great Web Comics

comic.pngI love comics. I really do. Art, story, quick pacing. Awesome. The worse thing about comics? Having to wait a month between issues. Or if you’re like me and wait for the collected volumes then the wait is more like six months to a year. But still I love them. So when I need to fill that void of comic while I await the latest Fables book I turn to the internets. The next best thing to a comic in hand is a comic on screen I say! Not a comic book aficionado? No problem, I’ve got a list here to get you started. There’s a little bit for everyone on this list but be warned, this is no list of Sunday morning funnies. These are hardcore. And highly enjoyable!

[Oh and a note, many of these comics a feature a strong cast of female characters. Not because I’m being all super feminist but because well, girls kick ass]

1) Questionable Content

Indie hipsters, a trendy coffee shop, obscure references and snaky comments. No it’s not your Saturday afternoon, it’s a daily web comic by J. Jacques featuring a cast of hip twenty somethings just trying to make their way through life. Oh and also there are havoc wreaking tiny robots. Join the adventures of Faye, Marty, Dora, and the rest of the gang as they work through their piles of issues, find love, and make fun of the goth kids in the mall. Funny and easy to get into. A great place to start Read More »
